  • Steel fiber and polymer are used widely for reinforcement material of RC structures because of its excellences of the durability, serviceability as well as mechanical properties. The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear behavior of polymer cement high strength concrete beams mixed with steel fiber. The compressive strength of concrete was based on the 100$\times$200 mm cylinder specimens. The compressive strength of concrete are 320$kgf/cm^2$, 436 $kgf/cm^2$ and 520 $kgf/cm^2$ in the 28 days. The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking, crack patterns and fracture modes. Also, load-strain and load-deflection examined. During the test cracks were sketched against the load values according to the growth of crack. result are as follows; (1) The failure modes of the specimens are increased in rigidity and durability with mixing steel fiber and polymer. (2) The load of initial crack was similar a theory of shear-crack strength. (3) The deflection and strain at failure load of Polymer-steel fiber high strength concrete beams were increased, improving the brittleness of the high strength concrete.

  • Corrosion of steel rebars in bridge decks which are faced to harsh conditions, is a common problem in construction industries due to the porosity of concrete. In this research, the behavior of one-way concrete slabs reinforced with Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) molded grating is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. In the analytical method, a closed-form solution for load-deflection behavior of a slab under four-point bending condition is developed by considering a concrete slab as an orthotropic plate and defining stiffness coefficients in principal directions. The available formulation for concrete reinforced with steel is expanded for concrete reinforced with GFRP molded grating to predict ultimate failure load. In finite element modeling, an exact nonlinear behavior of concrete along with a 3-D failure criterion for cracking and crushing are considered in order to estimate the ultimate failure load and the initial cracking load. Eight concrete slabs reinforced with steel and GFRP grating in various thicknesses are also tested to verify the results. The obtained results from the models and experiments are relatively satisfactory.

  • To study the working mechanism and size effect of an innovative dovetail UHPC joint originated from the 5th Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, a large-scale testing subject to negative bending moment was conducted and compared with the previous scaled specimens. The static responses, i.e., the crack pattern, failure mode, ductility and stiffness degradation were analyzed. It was found that the scaled specimens presented similar working stages and working mechanism with the large-scale ones. However, the post-cracking ductility and relative stiffness degradation all decrease with the enlarged length/scale, apart from the relative stiffness after flexural cracking. The slab stiffness at the flexural cracking stage is 90% of the initial stiffness while only 24% of the initial stiffness reserved in the ultimate stage. Finite element model (FEM) was established and compared with the experiments to verify its effectiveness in exploring the working mechanism of the innovative joint. Based on this effective method, a series of FEMs were established to further study the influence of material strength, pre-stressing level and ratio of reinforcement on its deflection-load relationship. It is found that the ratio of reinforcement can significantly improve its load-carrying capacity among the three major-influenced factors.

  • This study is intended to discuss the application of blast slag for concrete to improve the durability of precast concrete box culvert. The precast concrete box culverts with blast slag are tested to verify the effect of early strength. The results show that the initial cracking load and yielding load of the blast slag concrete members are increased when they are compared with those of the normal concrete. In the prototype precast concrete box culvert experiment, initial crack control effect and ductility index are increased. It can be concluded that the use of blast slag was improved the durability in precast concrete box culvert.

  • This study is intended to discuss the application of expansive additives for concrete to improve the durability of precast concrete box culvert by inducing the chemical prestress. The precast concrete box culvert using expansive cement are tested to verify the effect of expansive additives. The results show that the initial cracking load and yielding load of the expansive cement numbers are increased when they are compared with those of the normal concrete. In the prototype precast concrete box culvert experiment, initial crack control effect and strength of joint are increased, but the deflection is decreased by expansive cement. Brides, reinforcement ratio is decreased about 14.6 percent in compering with the case of using normal cement. If can be the concluded that the use of expansive additives to induce the chemical prestress was improve the durability in concrete box culvert.

  • The cracking at the transverse diaphragm cutout is one of the most severe fatigue failures threatening orthotropic steel decks (OSDs), whose mechanisms and crack treatment techniques have not been fully studied. In this paper, full-scale experiments were first performed to investigate the fatigue performance of polished cutouts involving the effect of an artificial geometrical defect. Following this, comparative experimental testing for defective cutouts strengthened with carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) was carried out. Numerical finite element analysis was also performed to verify and explain the experimental observations. Results show that the combinative effect of the wheel load and thermal residual stress constitutes the external driving force for the fatigue cracking of the cutout. Initial geometrical defects are confirmed as a critical factor affecting the fatigue cracking. The principal stress 6 mm away from the free edge of the cutout can be adopted as the nominal stress of the cutout during fatigue evaluation, and the fatigue resistance of polished cutouts is higher than Grade A in AASHTO specification. The bonded CFRP system is highly effective in extending the fatigue life of the defective cutouts. The present study provides some new insights into the fatigue evaluation and repair of OSDs.

An experimental investigation of the shear behavior of high-strength reinforced concrete beams using input steel fiber was conducted. However only a few experimental tests have been carried out under static loading . The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking , crack patters, fracture modes. The load versus strain and load versus deflection relation were obtained from the static test.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams according to small shear span-depth ratio between a/d=1.5, 2.8, 3.6. In general, shear strength of reinforced concrete beams is dependent on the compressive strength of concrete the longitudinal steel ratio, the shear span-depth ratio and shear reinforcement. The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking, crack patterns, fracture modes. The load versus strain and load versus deflection relations were obtained from the static test. The test results on shear strength were compared with results obtained by the formulas of ACI code 318-95. The shear strength of reinforced concrete beams exceeded those predicted following present ACI code 318-95(11-6).
