  • Edible insects are an interesting alternative global food resource. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether ingestion of silkworm (Bombyx mori) pupae powder with and without resistance exercise training (isometric contraction training) increased muscle mass in ICR mice. To achieve this, 28 ICR mice were grouped into control (CON), resistance exercise training (EX), silkworm pupae powder ingested control (SP), and silkworm powder ingestion with resistance exercise training (SPEX) groups. The change in body weight ratio was significantly decreased in the EX and SPEX groups compared to the CON and SP groups. Total blood protein levels were the highest in SPEX mice compared to those in other groups. The albumin concentration increased only in the EX group. Blood GOT and GPT levels were not significantly affected. Changes in Akt and Gsk-$3{\beta}$ protein expression were not significant but there was a tendency for Akt to increase and for Gsk-$3{\beta}$ to increase following the ingestion of the powder. The size of the gastrocnemius muscle increased significantly in response to resistance exercise training only. Furthermore, the ingestion of silkworm pupae powder tended to increase muscle mass without significance. These results suggested that the ingestion of silkworm pupae powder with resistance exercise training might enhance muscle mass without hepatotoxicity. However, future study may be needed to obtained detailed results and practical suggestions.

  • We investigated the effect of Rhus verniciflua Stokes (RVS) ingestion on plasma lipids, antioxidant defense and GOT, GPT for 5 weeks. 27 ICR mice were used as the subject that was divided into CON group (water ingestion), HALF group (RVS 50% ingestion), and MAX group (RVS 100% ingestion), respectively. Body weight in MAX was significantly lower than CON group (p<.05). A plasma of TG in both RVS groups were significantly lower than CON group (p<.05). Concentration of FFA in MAX was significantly higher than HALF and CON group (p<.05). Blood glucose, GOT, and GPT have not significance among them. Liver SOD was significantly increased in MAX compared to the CON (p<.05). In conclusion, 100% of RVS ingestion has the effect of lowering body weight, decreasing plasma lipids, and increasing antioxidant defense in mouse.

  • This research is to investigate the four years growth mountain-cultivated ginseng ripened twenty-two weeks into four years fermented persimmon vinegar (tentatively: Sansamcho) ingestion on obese-related factors during dietary control. The Sansamcho was ingested orally, two times a day, after every meal for six weeks to the male rats. Groups were divided into the control (CON), the restricted diet (RD), and the weight cycling (WC). And, each groups has its own sub-groups as the -control (-CON), 2.5 times diluted Sansamcho ingestion (-MPV2.5), and 5.0 times diluted Sansamcho ingestion (-MPV5.0) groups, respectively. The number of rat was consisted of seven in each group. After six weeks rearing periods was done, abdominal fats (retroperitoneal fat, mesentery fat, and epididymal fat) and energy metabolic-related protein (AMPK: AMP-activated protein kinase; PPAR-${\alpha}$: peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-${\alpha}$; and CPT-1: carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1) were weighed and analyzed. Amount of stored fat was significantly or tended to decrease by Sansamcho ingestion. In addition, sum of fats increasing were suppressed by the material. On the contrary, energy metabolism-related protein expression was significantly increased or tended to increase by Sansamcho ingestion. This results suggested that increased energy metabolism using Sansamcho was restrained effectively visceral fat store by high-fat diet and/or dietary control. In other words, it has a good function to suppress weight cycling which is the most insoluble problem. Therefore, the fusion material, Sansamcho, may expect to utilize as the obese-suppression-food.

  • The effect of green tea drinking on the hepatocellular chemical cacinogenesis have been studied. Placental glutathione S-transferase(GST-P) positive foci area in a liver tissue, contents of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS), total cytochrome P450 and glucose 6-phospphatase(G6P) activity in hepatic microsomes were investigated. Weaning Sprague-Dawley male rats were fed AIN-76A diet with deionized water or green tea infusion, Rats of CTR and CTR+ groups were provided deionized water while GTI and GTI+ groups were provided green tea instead of deionized water for the entire experimental period of 13weeks. Rats of GTP and GTP + groups had deionized water for the first 6 weeks and switched to green tea for the last 7weeks of the experimental period. CTR+, GTI +, and GTP + groups were carcinogen treated groups, Diethylnitrosamine(DEN) was injected as a single dose of 200mg/kg body weight intraperitoneally after 4 weeks of feeding. 2-Acetyla-minofluorene(AAF) was used as a carcinogen proliferater and suppled in the diets of carcinogen treated rats as 0.02% content for the last 6weeks starting from 2weeks after DEN injection. Rats were sacrificed after 13week weeks of feeding. The area and number of GST-P positive foci detected in carcinogen treated rats were decreased by green tea ingestion but when timing and duration of green tea ingestion was delayed after promotion period as in GTP + group, GST-P positive foci were not decreased as much as in GTI+ group. TBARS contents of carcinogen treated rats decreased by 13weeks of green tea ingestion but GTP groups did not show statiscally significant differences. G6P activities tended to decrease by carcinogen treatment but changes were not statiscally significant by green tea ingestion. Total cytochrome P450 contents were increased by carcinogen treatment. Thirteen weeks of green tea ingestion (GTI) also increased to total cytochrome P450 contents while 7weeks of green tea ingestion(GTP) did show any effects. These results suggest that green tea has suppressive effects on hepatocellular chemical carcinogenesis probably through the activities of antioxidant compounds. • The importance of input wariables of real-time accident consequence assessment model has been analyzed. Partial correlation coefficients of input variables related to the plume and the ingestion exposure have been estimated using latino hypercube sampling technique. It is known that wind speed and growth dilution rate are the most important variable in plume and ingestion exposure, respectively.

  • The hot gas reingestion phenomenon of helicopter brings about the reduction of engine power available around in-ground. The phenomenon will vary for the conditions of ambient conditions and engine exhaust gas, the flow field associated with the downwash effect of main rotor. To verify the amount of hot gas reingestion to intake, Tests(Wind tunnel test, Flight test) or CFD could be available. At this study, the reingestion around in-ground would be predicted by numerical analysis(CFD).

  • Children tend to ingest foreign bodies. The majority present in children between the ages of 6 months and 3 years. We experienced 2 cases of unusual gastrointestinal complications caused by ingested foreign bodies. First case was a 10-month-old male with intestinal perforation due to two pieces of ingested magnetic heads. Second case was a 7-month-old girl with esophageal stricture due to an ingested particle of plastic toy.

  • With the constantly increasing demand of domestic and oversea satellite images, there is also a growing demand to rapidly acquire images after the satellite image collection planning of KOMPSAT-2/3/5. Therefore, it has been increasing to use the korea ground station and oversea ground station to keep pace with increased demand. The KARI is operating Data Ingestion System of the KOMPSAT-2/3 in Svalbard, where the satellite images have been received at least four or six times a day. The KARI is planning to operate oversea receiving system for KOMPSAT-5/3A. This paper introduces the polar data ingestion system operating in Norway, and presents the process of design and development for Polar Integration receiving system in preparation of multiple satellite operation.
