  • Battiti's mutual information feature selector (MIFS) and its variant algorithms are used for many classification applications. Since they ignore feature synergy, MIFS and its variants may cause a big bias when features are combined to cooperate together. Besides, MIFS and its variants estimate feature redundancy regardless of the corresponding classification task. In this paper, we propose an automated greedy feature selection algorithm called conditional mutual information-based feature selection (CMIFS). Based on the link between interaction information and conditional mutual information, CMIFS takes account of both redundancy and synergy interactions of features and identifies discriminative features. In addition, CMIFS combines feature redundancy evaluation with classification tasks. It can decrease the probability of mistaking important features as redundant features in searching process. The experimental results show that CMIFS can achieve higher best-classification-accuracy than MIFS and its variants, with the same or less (nearly 50%) number of features.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy relaxation labeling approach incorporated to the fuzzy logic fusion scheme for the classification of multi-sensor remote sensing images. The fuzzy logic fusion and iterative relaxation labeling techniques are adopted to effectively integrate multi-sensor remote sensing images and to incorporate spatial neighboring information into spectral information for contextual classification, respectively. Especially, the iterative relaxation labeling approach can provide additional information that depicts spatial distributions of pixels updated by spatial information. Experimental results for supervised land-cover classification using optical and multi-frequency/polarization images indicate that the use of multi-sensor images and spatial information can improve the classification accuracy.

  • The main objective of HACCP(Hazard analysis and critical control points) system is to provide a systematic preventive approach how to control the risks in food production process. Practically, the diet classification process performed at the one of the beginning steps of the HACCP system, makes an important role of determining food safety risks and how to control them in every control point according to the different risk level of the diet. In this paper, we propose an automatic diet classification method for HACCP system using XML(eXtensible Markup Language). In order to guarantee the diet classification accuracy, we design the XML schema and attributes represents the relationship of every diet and ingredients analysing the HACCP diet classification rules. Based on the XML schema and document generation method, we develope the proposed system as client and server model that implemented XML based HACCP diet information generation module and integrated HACCP information management modules, respectively. Moreover, we show the efficiency of the proposed system with experiment results describing the school food diet information as XML documents and parsing the diet information.

  • This study suggests that improvement of theses and dissertations retrieval can be made by applying appropriate academic department classification. We applied the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training(KRIVET)'s department classification to these and dissertations being serviced by Korea Education & Research Information Service(KERIS). The results show that the chosen classification appropriately represents diverse academic department information contained in the theses and dissertations either published or used within the recent three year period. The study also makes a number of suggestions that will facilitate the application of an academic department classification to a live system.

  • This article tries to analyze some examples applied the analytico-synthetic classification techniques found in the practical life. For this purpose, it selected and investigated the cases of the combination rules of the Hangeul, the number systems of the city buses of Daegu and Seoul Cities, information of the members of the wedding consulting agencies, information from real estate agents and court auction, and postal codes and direct distance dialing(DDD) numbers in Korea. It suggests that applying the analytico-synthetic classification techniques to the systems can improve them especially in the regards of notational systems.

  • Based upon its variety and specialties, Korean food has the potential power to become globalized, and a national public relations strategy for global competitiveness. In this process, a proper organization of information about Korean foods should be given a priority. The purposes of this study are to analyze the classification status and case studies of Korean foods in Korean libraries, to understand how much Korean foods are represented in the classification scheme and what should be improved, and to suggest a modified expansion of DDC 22. In so doing, an attempt is made to provide some evidences of the revision of DDC 22 as well as useful practices of modified DDC 22 in Korean libraries.

  • Recently, the amount of web pages, which include various information, has been drastically increased according to the explosive increase of WWW usage. Therefore, the need for web page classification arose in order to make it easier to access web pages and to make it possible to search the web pages through the grouping. Web page classification means the classification of various web pages that are scattered on the web according to the similarity of documents or the keywords contained in the documents. Web page classification method can be applied to various areas such as web page searching, group searching and e-mail filtering. However, it is impossible to handle the tremendous amount of web pages on the web by using the manual classification. Also, the automatic web page classification has the accuracy problem in that it fails to distinguish the different web pages written in different forms without classification errors. In this paper, we propose the automatic web page classification system using meta-tag that can be obtained from the web pages in order to solve the inaccurate web page retrieval problem.

  • Recently, extensive research has been conducted on classification systems for managing a huge amount of information with various froms in the construction industry. Classification Systems such as ISO/DIS 12006-2 and MasterFormathave been proposed as international standards, and accommodating them for Korean situation the Korean Ministry of Construction and Transportation has proposed the Unified Construction Information Classification System. As the construction industry becomes bigger and more complicated, however, the need for higher-level semantic representation of construction information has been recognized. In this study we develop a prototype ontology based upon the Unified Construction Information Classification and suggest a practical way of applying an ontology technology to the construction information systems. An ontology is a useful tool to effectively manageconstruction information and to support interoperability among heterogeneous information systems by clarifying the semantic relationship between concepts.

  • Standardized construction information classification enables extensive information from the construction industry to be shared and exchanged clearly by means of unified information expression. Recently, the constriction information classification in North America and Europe has been revised to adapt to BIM technology and applied to various BIM projects. In Korea, government established construction information classification and made efforts to be standardized. On the other hand, it showed low applicability at the practice field and had no revision plan for adapting BIM. In this study, the authors suggest an improvement plan of construction information classification for applying BIM with the purpose of availability enhancement and adaption to a construction environment change.

  • The Support Vector Machine(SVM) is very functional and efficient classification method to any other classification analysis method. However, its optimal extension to more than two classes is not obvious. In this paper several multi-category SVM methods are introduced and compared using simulation and real data sets. Also comparison with traditional multi-category classification and SVM based methods is performed.
