Content Analysis on Twitter for Identifying Scholarly Activities and Public Use in Informal Communication: With a Focus on Domestic Scholars in Social Sciences (트위터 데이터를 이용한 연구자들의 비공식 커뮤니케이션 활동 및 대중이용 내용분석: 국내 사회과학 분야 연구자들을 중심으로)

  • This study aims to identify and categorize the content and public use patterns of social scientists' informal communication activities. Using Twitter data, we identified Korean 736 social scientists who participated in communication activities with the public, and analyzed 4,548 tweets that revealed their informal communication activities. This study is meaningful in that it explored informal communication between social scientists and the public, which was not previously revealed in scholarly communication, and identified the types of informal communication activities, communication media, and collaborative sectors in detail.

Researching Science Learning Outside the Classroom

  • Although science continues to be a key subject in the education of the majority of young people throughout the world, it is becoming increasingly clear that school science is failing to win the hearts and minds of many of today's younger generation. Researchers have begun to look at ways in which the learning that takes place in museums, science centres and other informal settings can add value to science learning in schools. Four case studies are used to illustrate the potential afforded by informal contexts to research aspects of science learning. The case studies involve: the European Union PENCIL (Permanent European Resource Centre for Informal Learning) project (a network of 14 museums and science centres working with schools to enhance learning in maths and science); a large natural history museum in England; the Tate Modernart gallery in London, and the Outdoor Classroom Action Research Project which involved researchers working in school grounds, field centres and farms. The range of research questions that were asked are examined as are the methodological approaches taken and the methods used to collect and analyse data. Lessons learned from the studies about research in the informal contexts are discussed critically.

  • Based on the thinking that people can understand more clearly when the problem is related with their prior knowledge, the Purpose of this study was to analysis students' informal knowledge, which is constructed through their mathematical experience in the context of real-world situations. According to this purpose, the following research questions were. 1) What is the characteristics of students' informal knowledge about fraction before formal fraction instruction in school? 2) What is the difference of informal knowledge of fraction according to reasoning ability and grade. To investigate these questions, 18 children of first, second and third grade(6 children per each grade) in C elementary school were selected. Among the various concept of fraction, part-whole fraction, quotient fraction, ratio fraction and measure fraction were selected for the interview. I recorded the interview on digital camera, drew up a protocol about interview contents, and analyzed and discussed them after numbering and comment. The conclusions are as follows: First, students already constructed informal knowledge before they learned formal knowledge about fraction. Among students' informal knowledge they knew correct concepts based on formal knowledge, but they also have ideas that would lead to misconceptions. Second, the informal knowledge constructed by children were different according to grade. This is because the informal knowledge is influenced by various experience on learning and everyday life. And the students having higher reasoning ability represented higher levels of knowledge. Third, because children are using informal knowledge from everyday life to learn formal knowledge, we should use these informal knowledge to instruct more efficiently.

A Study on Satisfaction of Service by the Models of Informal-formal Resources Linkages for Long-term Care Elder (장기요양대상노인의 비공식적·공식적 자원연계 유형에 따른 서비스 만족도 연구)

  • This study is to examine the effective system for providing services for long-term care elders, despite the expansion of formal care, informal care still is needed. Thus, this study's purpose is to classify the informal-formal resources linkages types of long-term care elders and looks into service satisfaction by these types and discover effective informal-formal resources linkages models. For that, this study is to divide informal-formal resources linkages types by the degree of providing services of informal and formal caregivers and discover the informal-formal resources linkages types using cluster analysis and explores the effectiveness of service satisfaction using multiple regression. The study's results is to suggest four models, such as family care, complementary, separation, formal service and complementary type was founded to be the most effective and then based on the result, we discuss as follows. First, we must strive to combine informal resources into formal service systemto the system for providing of service is made up the complementary type. Second, the system for providing services of long-term care elders is required integrated care system to alining of medical and long-term care services. Third, we have to consider a measure to improve of formal service type, for the satisfaction of formal service appears low relatively. Based on research findings, this study propose that the informal-formal resources linkages models are subdivided into the dimension of quantity and quality of care for improving the effectiveness of long-term care services.

  • This study investigated what kind of informal knowledge is emergent and what role informal knowledge play in process of solving 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication task. The data come from 4 times interviews with a 3th grade student who had not yet received regular school education regarding 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication. And the data involves the student's activity paper, the characteristics of action and the clue of thinking process. Findings from these interviews clarify the child's informal knowledge to modeling strategy, doubling strategy, distributive property, associative property. The child formed informal knowledge to justify and modify her conjecture of the algorithm.

An Analysis of Elementary School Students' Informal Knowledge In Proportion (초등학생의 비례에 관한 비형식적 지식 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze informal knowledge of students who do not learn the conception of proportion and to identify how the informal knowledge can be used for teaching the conception of proportion in order to present an effective method of teaching the conception. For doing this, proportion was classified into direct and inverse proportion, and 'What are the informal knowledge of students?' were researched. The subjects of this study were 117 sixth-graders who did not have prior learning on direct and inverse proportion. A total eleven problems including seven for direct proportion and four for inverse proportion, all of them related to daily life. The result are as follows; Even though students didn't learn about proportion, they solve the problems of proportion using informal knowledge such as multiplicative reasoning, proportion reasoning, single-unit strategy etc. This result implies mathematics education emphasizes student's informal knowledge for improving their mathematical ability.

Feature Expansion based on LDA Word Distribution for Performance Improvement of Informal Document Classification (비격식 문서 분류 성능 개선을 위한 LDA 단어 분포 기반의 자질 확장)

  • Data such as Twitter, Facebook, and customer reviews belong to the informal document group, whereas, newspapers that have grammar correction step belong to the formal document group. Finding consistent rules or patterns in informal documents is difficult, as compared to formal documents. Hence, there is a need for additional approaches to improve informal document analysis. In this study, we classified Twitter data, a representative informal document, into ten categories. To improve performance, we revised and expanded features based on LDA(Latent Dirichlet allocation) word distribution. Using LDA top-ranked words, the other words were separated or bundled, and the feature set was thus expanded repeatedly. Finally, we conducted document classification with the expanded features. Experimental results indicated that the proposed method improved the micro-averaged F1-score of 7.11%p, as compared to the results before the feature expansion step.

  • This paper aims to investigate the characteristics of innovation activities and informal networks of venture companies in Daegu region. The most important knowledge source of them for innovation is in house. The next are customers, competitors, and public supporters. And it was investigated that regional venture companies have participated in 1-5 informal network organizations. They primarily achieve such knowledges as, technologies, new business opportunities, and marketing information, through participation in informal networks. The reasons why they have taken part in informal networks are to get new informations and acquire new business opportunities. Particularly The informal networks between ventures companies and other regional economic actors have helped the regional venture companies to obtain more economic performance and to establish social capital, such as faith, with other economic actors.

A Pragmatic Approach to Ellipsis in Russian and Polish Colloquial and Informal Texts of the Novel "Exit to the South" (러시아어와 폴란드어 문학텍스트 내 생략의 화용적 분석 - 므로제크의 "남쪽으로의 도주"를 중심으로 -)

  • The paper pragmatically analyzes ellipsis in Russian and Polish colloquial and informal texts. The famous Polish writer Sławomir $Mro{\dot{z}}ek^{\prime}s$ "Exit to the South", written in Polish and Russian is used as a material for the analysis. Russian and Polish ellipsis in colloquial and informal texts have in common that the givenness and subjecthood of the elliptical co-referent play a crucial role. However, the ellipsis in two languages also has differences in many ways. Above all, in the Polish texts of colloquial and informal style, a theme is likely to be elliptical and the coreferential relation reaches to an extra-sentential antecedent, while the ellipsis in analysed Russian texts in most cases requires coordinate, subordinate or relative clauses, and the elliptical co-referent tends to have an intra-sentential antecedent. The ellipsis of the theme-subject is unmarked in Polish, where every verbal form has an ending denoting person. Unlike formal style which often allows explicit noun subject, Polish text of colloquial and informal style prefer null form of the subject in most cases. If Polish sentences have explicit theme-subjects, they disambiguate intervening and main themes, and indicate the contrast, the focus, the introduction of new narratives or the change of speaker's point of view. Sometimes direct speeches and deictic pronouns also need explicit theme-subjects in Polish sentences. On the other hand, the ellipsis of the theme-subject is marked in Russian even in colloquial and informal texts. The theme-subject can be deleted in Russian colloquial and informal texts, if the subject is a form of the first or the second person, or if the aspect and the tense of the antecedent sentence's verb are the same as those of the given sentence's verb and both the antecedent and the coreferential word have the nominative case.

A Study on Correlation between Atypical Architecture Classification and Main Public Space of the Museums (박물관의 비정형 건축형태와 중심공간과의 상관성에 관한 연구)

  • This study focused on the museums mainly holding permanent exhibitions except for the function of special exhibition in museum architectural works. This study aimed to draw the possibility to establish the relation between architectural form and central space of museums, by applying the forms like formal form, informal form, segment form, and diagonal form shown through a case study to total 164 work cases, reclassifying the architectural form into informal form, formal form, semi-formal form, segment form, diagonal form, and linear form, and then analogizing the matter of correlation between architectural form and central space of museums. The relevant contents could be summarized as follows. overall, most of the central spaces according with the informal architectural form of museums were the informal form, which showed 92.7% distribution rate. overall, there were many cases of informal architectural form of museums. Compared to the formal form, the informal architectural form showed the higher correlation with central space. The informal architectural form of museums is estimated to be continuously developing in the future. This study aims to present the basic data aiming for interior architecture design by considering the correlation between central space and architectural form.
