In this paper, a numerical case study is carried out on the hydroelastic vibration of rectangular plate with various fluid field. It is assumed that the tank wall is clamped along the plate edges. The VMM(virtual mass method) of Nastran is used for the simulation of fluid domain and calculating natural frequency of fluid-coupled structure. In this paper, natural frequencies are calculated and compared for rectangular plates with various fluid field such as infinite fluid and finite fluid, length change of finite fluid field and various fluid contacting conditions.
Holographic zone plate (HZP) is fabricated by interfering a plane wave and a spherical wave in a dichromated gelatin (DCG) film obtained from Agfa 8E75HD plates. We have developed a simple theory for HZP considering optical nonlinearity of DCG material. Analysis of our theory for HZP shows that it has infinite focal points at distances f,f/2, f/3,,…. In experiment, we observed the corresponding focal points of up to f/6 when illuminating HZP by a plane wave. It is also shown that the beam profile around the first focal point measured by using a knife-edge scanning method has a Gaussian shape.

In order to investigate the stochastic behavior of Mindlin plate under imperfection in the material and geometrical parameters, a stochastic finite element formulation is proposed. The effects of inter-correlations between random parameters on the response variability are also observed. The contribution from the random Poisson ratio is taken into account adopting a stochastic decomposition scheme. which expands the constitutive matrix into an infinite series of sub-matrices. In order to demonstrate the adequacy of the proposed scheme, a square plate with simple and fixed support is taken as an example, and the results are compared with those given in previous research in the literature as well as with the results of Monte Carlo analysis.
In this paper, an analytical method is proposed to find the dimensions of impact stresses with using the dimensions of impact loading parameter regardless of mass of impactor, velocity of impactor, and plate thickness. In analytical method of Impulsive stresses, the three-dimensional dynamic theory of elasticity using rectangular coordinates and the potential theory of displacement are utilized, and when the measurement of Impact loading is difficult especially for a steel ball colliding on an infinite plate, the impact loading can be obtained by using the classical plate theory and Hertz’s contact theory. And in the numerical analysis, the fast Fourier transform (F. F. T.) algorithm and the numerical inverse Laplace transformation are used because the analysis of impact loading Is difficult to obtain solutions by using the thress-dimensional dynamic theory of elasticity.

A design procedure using spatial Fourier transform is presented for a structural-acoustic coupled radiator that can emit sound in the desired direction with high power and low side lobe level. The design procedure consists of three steps. Firstly, the structural-acoustic coupled radiator is chosen to obtain strong coupling between structural vibration and acoustic pressure. The radiator is composed by two spaces which are separated by a wall. Spaces can be categorized as reverberant finite space and unbounded semi-infinite space, and the wall are composed of two plates and an opening. The velocities on the wall are predicted. Secondly, directivity and energy distribution of radiator are predicted in wave number domain using spatial Fourier transform. Finally, optimal design variables are calculated using a dual optimal algorithm. Its computational example is presented including the directivity and resulting pressure distribution using proposed procedure.
We have studied the behavior of light in the intermediate regime between a single nanoslit and an infinite nanoslit array. We first calculated the optical characteristics of a small number of nanoslits using finite element numerical analysis. The phase variance of the proposed nanoslit model shows a gradual phase shift between a single nanoslit and ideal nanoslit array, which stabilizes before the total array length becomes ${\sim}0.5{\lambda}$. Next, we designed a transmission-enhanced Fresnel zone plate by applying the phase characteristics from the small-number nanoslit model. The virtual-point-source method suggests that the proposed Fresnel zone plate with phase-invariant nanoslits achieves 2.34x higher transmission efficiency than a conventional Fresnel zone plate. Our report describes the intermediate behaviors of a nanoslit array, which could also benefit subwavelength metallic structure research of metasurfaces.
This paper presents a mathematical model suitable for the calculation of laminated glass, i.e. glass plates combined with an interlayer material. The model is based on a beam differential equation for each glass plate and a separate differential equation for the slip in the interlayer. In addition to slip, the model takes into account prestressing force in the interlayer. It is possible to combine the two contributions arbitrarily, which is important because the glass sheet fabrication process changes the stiffness of the interlayer in ways that are not easily predictable and could introduce prestressing of varying magnitude. The model is suitable for reformulation into an inverse procedure for calculation of the relevant parameters. Model consisting of a system of differential-algebraic equations, proved too stiff for cases with the thin interlayer. This novel approach covers the full range of possible stiffnesses of layered glass sheets, i.e., from zero to infinite stiffness of the interlayer. The comparison of numerical and experimental results contributes to the validation of the model.

The high-skewed and/or composite propellers of current interests to reduce the ship vibration and to increase the acoustic performance are likely to be exposed to the unexpected structural problems. One typical example is that the added mass effect on the propellers working in the non-uniform wake field reduces the natural frequency of the propeller leading to the resonance with the low-frequency excitation of the external forces. To avoid this resonance problem during the design stage, the technique of fluid-structure interaction has been developed, but the higher-order effect of the blade geometry deformation is not yet considered in evaluating the added mass effects. In this paper the fluid boundary-value problem is formulated by the potential-based panel method in the inviscid fluid region with the velocity inflow due to the body deformation, and the structural response of the solid body under the hydrodynamic loading is solved by applying the finite element method which implements the 20-node iso-parametric element model. The fluid-structure problem is solved iteratively. A basic fluid-sturcture interaction study is performed with the simple rectangular plates of thin thickness with various planform submerged in the water of infinite extent. The computations show good correlation with the experimental results of Linholm, et al. (1965).

An analytical solution for a vertically stratified viscous flow in a microchannel with a rectangular cross-section is constructed, assuming fully developed laminar flow where the interfaces between the fluid layers are flat. Although the solution is for n-layer flow, restricted results to symmetrical three-layer flow are presented to investigate the effects of the viscosity and thickness ratios of the fluid layers and the aspect ratio of the microchannel on the flow field. Relations between the flow rate and thickness ratios of the fluid layers with varying viscosity distributions are found, considering the cross -sectional velocity profiles which vary noticeably with the three parameters and differ significantly from the velocity profiles of the flow between infinite parallel plates. Interfacial instability induced by the viscosity stratification in the microchannel is discussed referring to previous studies on the instability analysis for plane multilayer flow. Exact solution derived in the present study can be used for examining a diffusion process and three -dimensional stability analysis. More works are needed to formulate the equations including the effects of interfacial' tension between immiscible liquids and surface wettability which are important in microscale transport phenomena.

In this paper, sound transmission of Micro-Perforated Plates (MPPs) installed in an impedance tube with a circular cross-section is described using an analytic method. Vibration of the plates is expressed in terms of an infinite series of modal functions, where modal function in the radial direction is given by the Bessel function. Under the plane wave assumption, a low frequency approximation is derived, and a formula for the sound transmission coefficient of multi-layered MPPs is presented using the transfer matrix method. The Sound Transmission Losses (STLs) of single and double MPPs are computed using the proposed method and compared with those done by the Finite Element Method (FEM), which shows an excellent agreement. As the perforation increases, the STL is degraded, since the STL becomes dominated by the perforation ratio rather than by vibration of the plate. The STL shows dips at natural frequencies as well as at the mass-spring-mass resonance frequency. The proposed model for the STL prediction in this study can be applied to an arbitrary number of MPPs, where each MPP may or may not have a perforation.
