As the chemical industry becomes more advanced, the awareness of chemical accidents is rising, and legal systems for chemical safety management are strengthened. In this study, quantitative risk assessment of liquid chlorine leak was conducted. Risk assessment was performed in the order of frequency analysis, consequence analysis, and risk calculation. The individual risk was presented in the form of contour lines. The social risk was expressed by the FN curve. The risk of day and night was in an unacceptable area, so it was required to mitigate risk. Therefore in-building, which could trap the pool, was selected as a risk mitigation measure. As a result of the cost benefit analysis, it was concluded that this measure should be reasonably implemented.
Recently, the issue of construction safety is growing. In the construction industry, accidents have continued to increase since 2000. In particular, the number of accident deaths at small and medium-sized construction sites accounts for 72.11% of the total number of accident deaths in the construction industry. For construction safety, prior safety evaluation systems such as Design for safety and safety management plan preparation are in place. However, at construction sites, these systems are recognized as formal legal documents, and their effectiveness is greatly reduced. Therefore, in this study, a linkage model that links design safety review information and safety management plan information was presented so that the safety management plan can be efficiently established. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed process was verified as an example of actual work. The linkage model will contribute to improving the safety management environment at the site by increasing the productivity of safety management work by enabling easy sharing of risk factor information in the construction stage safety management work. The results of this study will be used as basic information for the development of the integrated safety management system.
Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate exposure levels of various chemicals used in wafer fabrication product lines in the semiconductor industry where work-related leukemia has occurred. Methods: The research focused on 9 representative wafer fabrication bays among a total of 25 bays in a semiconductor product line. We monitored the chemical substances categorized as human carcinogens with respect to leukemia as well as harmful chemicals used in the bays and substances with hematologic and reproductive toxicities to evaluate the overall health effect for semiconductor industry workers. With respect to monitoring, active and passive sampling techniques were introduced. Eight-hour long-term and 15-minute short-term sampling was conducted for the area as well as on personal samples. Results: The results of the measurements for each substance showed that benzene, toluene, xylene, n-butyl acetate, 2-methoxy-ethanol, 2-heptanone, ethylene glycol, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid were non-detectable (ND) in all samples. Arsine was either "ND" or it existed only in trace form in the bay air. The maximum exposure concentration of fluorides was approximately 0.17% of the Korea occupational exposure limits, with hydrofluoric acid at about 0.2%, hydrochloric acid 0.06%, nitric acid 0.05%, isopropyl alcohol 0.4%, and phosphine at about 2%. The maximum exposure concentration of propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate (PGMEA) was 0.0870 ppm, representing only 0.1% or less than the American Industrial Hygiene Association recommended standard (100 ppm). Conclusion: Benzene, a known human carcinogen for leukemia, and arsine, a hematologic toxin, were not detected in wafer fabrication sites in this study. Among reproductive toxic substances, n-butyl acetate was not detected, but fluorides and PGMEA existed in small amounts in the air. This investigation was focused on the air-borne chemical concentrations only in regular working conditions. Unconditional exposures during spills and/or maintenance tasks and by-product chemicals were not included. Supplementary studies might be required.

Objectives: This paper presents the framework and protocol design for a construction industry risk management toolbox. The construction industry needs a comprehensive, systematic approach to assess and control occupational risks. These risks span several professional health and safety disciplines, emphasized by multiple international occupational research agenda projects including: falls, electrocution, noise, silica, welding fumes, and musculoskeletal disorders. Yet, the International Social Security Association says, "whereas progress has been made in safety and health, the construction industry is still a high risk sector." Methods: Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) employ about 80% of the world's construction workers. In recent years a strategy for qualitative occupational risk management, known as Control Banding (CB) has gained international attention as a simplified approach for reducing work-related risks. CB groups hazards into stratified risk 'bands', identifying commensurate controls to reduce the level of risk and promote worker health and safety. We review these qualitative solutions-based approaches and identify strengths and weaknesses toward designing a simplified CB 'toolbox' approach for use by SMEs in construction trades. Results: This toolbox design proposal includes international input on multidisciplinary approaches for performing a qualitative risk assessment determining a risk 'band' for a given project. Risk bands are used to identify the appropriate level of training to oversee construction work, leading to commensurate and appropriate control methods to perform the work safely. Conclusion: The Construction Toolbox presents a review-generated format to harness multiple solutions-based national programs and publications for controlling construction-related risks with simplified approaches across the occupational safety, health and hygiene professions.
The purpose of this study is to investigate safety and dangerous awareness of environment on walking trails. For this purpose, questionnaire survey are carried out by people who had experience using walking trails during 2016. It is evaluated that environments of walking trails located inside big cities are inferior than ones located in small and medium-sized cities and countryside in air pollution, bed smell, water pollution, noise, and waste. Needs about management and number installed public restroom are high for hygienic environment of walking trails. With waste treatment, users of 2.4 percentage are showed improper behavior that they left their rubbish at the place out of view but others bring their trash. Accident likelihood is highly appreciated and possibility of physical accident like slipping is showed at the highest. The reasons of accident on walking trails are responded with carelessness of walkers and improper of installation or management of safety facility at the most. For safety environment of walking trails, needs of installation of safety fences and notices of dangerous area are requested. In order to separate prevention from paths of walking trails, signposts are needed at visual clearness, maintenance, installation with proper interval and location, and correct contents. Respondents of 2.4 percentage have experiences of accident on walking trails and physical accident like slipping is occurred at the most.
Background: Health and safety (H&S) on a construction site can either make or break a contractor, if not properly managed. The usage of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for H&S on construction execution has the potential to augment practitioner understanding of their sites, and by so doing reduce the probability of accidents. This research explores BIM usage within the construction industry in relation to H&S communication. Methods: In addition to an extensive literature review, a questionnaire survey was conducted to gather information on the embedment of H&S planning with the BIM environment for site practitioners. Results: The analysis of responses indicated that BIM will enhance the current approach of H&S planning for construction site personnel. Conclusion: From the survey, toolbox talk will have to be integrated with the BIM environment, because it is the predominantly used procedure for enhancing H&S issues within construction sites. The advantage is that personnel can visually understand H&S issues as work progresses during the toolbox talk onsite.
This study analyzed the fire status of a rubber product manufacturing factory based on 19 years of fire data. Through the analysis of the current state of fire, electrical fires accounted for 58.19%, and among electrical fires, motor fires were the highest at 26.21%. For the motor fire occurrence process, the curing process accounted for the highest rate of 51.9%. Therefore, the installation environment was investigated for the motor in the curing process, and it was confirmed that the motor's maximum ambient temperature exceeded 40℃. In particular, in the case of the motor for curing operation, the motor was installed in a separate motor room, so the average indoor temperature was 48.10℃ and the motor frame's maximum temperature was 72.80℃. In this study, the risk of motor fire was confirmed through a field survey, and a safety management plan was derived by finding a process with high fire risk and conducting an experiment on the motor's installation environment and electrical characteristics in that process.
Human physical activity to lead daily life is performed by a variety of muscular activity strategies. These strategies can be influenced by characteristics, difficulty and muscle fatigue of work. Therefore this study examines muscular strengths (grip and back strength) of workers engaged in electronics industry in Korea, compares them to mean value of muscular strength by sex and age, accumulates related data and then aims to develop improvement methods of working environment and prevention/management program.
