  • This paper studies urban growth in Korean cities. First, I document that population growth patterns change over time and that the current population distribution supports random urban growth. I confirm two empirical laws-Zipf's law and Gibrat's law-both of which hold in the period of 1995-2015, but do not hold in the earlier period of 1975-1995. Second, I find a systematic employment growth pattern of Korean cities in spite of the random population growth. I examine market access effects on employment growth. Market access, a geographical advantage, has a significant influence on urban employment growth. The market access effect is higher in the Seoul metropolitan area than in the rest of the country. This effect is stronger on employment growth in the manufacturing industry compared to employment growth in the service industry. These results are robust with various checks (e.g., different definitions of urban areas). The results here suggest that policymakers should consider geographical characteristics when they make policy decisions with respect to regional development.

First, 73.2% of companies use outsourcing as of 2015, and manufacturing (83.7%) is 20% p higher than non-manufacturing (63.7%). Over the past 10 years, the rate of outsourcing increased by 88.7% in manufacturing and 44.2% in non-manufacturing. Second, as a result of estimating the determinants of employment for regular workers, the variables of labor income distribution, operating profit, sales, R & D expenditure, foreign capital ratio significantly increase the employment of regular workers, while outsourcing, capital intensity, Were estimated to significantly reduce employment. Third, as a result of subdivision of industrial type and estimation of the effect of outsourcing on employment, it decreased employment of regular workers in all types. The size of influence was the biggest decrease in 'basic material type' in manufacturing industry and 'distribution service type' in non - manufacturing industry.

Industry indicators were divided by the 9th Korean Standard Industrial Classification. Age-adjusted prevalence of smoking was calculated. Prevalence ratios(PR) and differences(PD) were estimated using log-binomial regression analysis. Results: Age-adjusted prevalence of smoking decreased between 1992 and 2006, specially the smoking prevalence of regular employees decreased most. PD in age-adjusted prevalence of smoking were the biggest between regular and daily employees. PR of the temporary employees', daily employees', self-employed persons' in order was wider than that of regular employees. PR increased significantly increased between 1999 and 2006 for those in manufacturing, construction, wholesale & retail trade, service industries. Increases in PR(regular/irregular) for women in service industry were statistically significant. Conclusions: Despite reducing overall cigarette smoking rates in males, the smoking rate was not reduced equally by industry classification and employment type in both genders. More adjustable antismoking policies and consideration of employment type are requested to reduce inequalities in smoking.

  • The employment permit system for foreigners, which stresses introduction of foreign work force in a legal manner rather than in the position of being trainees, is anticipated to efficiently improve introduction and the overall management system of foreign work force and related difficulties such as illegal alien problems, absurdity on sending laborers overseas. In this paper, a prospective model of supply and demand of work force has been developed basing on various categories of industries and patterns about nationally practical foreign employees to look over efficient supply and demand of work force suiting employment of foreigner among foreign work force policies. To propose the prospective model, we have derived industry- and pattern-related matrixes of foreign laborers basing on Inter-Industry Analysis Method put forth by Professor Leontiyef in 1930, and through the derived matrix assessed repercussions concerning overall domestic industries and foreigner types and decided yearly weight; the capacity of supply and demand of foreign laborers can be compared through proposed statistical estimation and government estimation by combining the determined weight with yearly incomes of foreign laborers. This paper has thoroughly considered the particularity of our employment permit system for foreigners and applied the Weibull distribution and incorporated the dependence of foreign laborers during the limited period of 3 years to the industry relation analysis, ultimately proposing an efficient supply and demand method about domestic foreign work force.

This study analyzed the structural relationship of turnover intention according to job stress of beauty industry employees. We tried to present implications by verifying the methods necessary for conflict management in the beauty industry from an empirical point of view. Research design, data and methodology: This study selected 518 workers in the beauty industry as a sample. Frequency analysis, validity and reliability analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were performed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) WIN23.0. Results: The moderating effect of work experience, a moderating variable, was found to be significant in the effect of job stress of beauty industry employees following changes in the employment environment on the dependent variable, turnover intention. Conclusion: This study revealed that changes in the employment environment negatively affect the job stress of beauty workers. To reduce the job stress of employees in the beauty industry, a systematic response at the organizational level will be necessary. In addition, it is expected that it will help establish differentiated strategies such as compensation system, service training, and service management to reduce job stress.
