Application of the LeMoS hybrid (LH) URANS/LES method for the wake parameters prediction is considered. The wake fraction coefficient is calculated for inland ship model M1926 under shallow water conditions and compared to results of PIV measurements. It was shown that due to lack of the resolved turbulence at the interface between LES and RANS zones the artificial grid induced separations can occur. In order to overcome this drawback, a shielding function is introduced into LH model. The new version of the model is compared to the original one, RANS $k-{\omega}$ SST and SST-IDDES models. It is demonstrated that the proposed modification is robust and capable of wake prediction with satisfactory accuracy.

In this paper, a SDINS(strapdown inertial navigation system) rapid initial alignment technique with adaptive time delay compensation is proposed. The proposed method consists of two steps. In first step, misalignment and data latency are estimated by conducting pre-transfer alignment. Then, hybrid alignment is designed to rapidly find the misalignment changes induced by pyro-shock. To improve the performance of hybrid alignment, adaptive time delay compensation method is suggested. We verify the performance improvement of the proposed alignment scheme comparing with the conventional transfer alignment method by van test. The test result shows that the proposed alignment technique improves alignment performance.

This study was conducted to develop the clonal propagation technique through in vitro culture using basal stem explants in Phalaenopsis hybrid grown in vitro. The highest frequency of protocorm-like body (PLB) formation was obtained when basal stem explants were cultured on VW medium containing 30g/L sucrose, 500 mg/L activated charcoal, 150 ml/L coconut water, 1 mg/L NAA, 5 mg/L 2iP and 2.5g/L gel rite. PLBs transferred to Hyponex medium were regenerated to plantlets. Plantlets transferred to plastic pots containing spagnum moss were developed and successfully acclimatized under greenhouse. The flower was bloomingly opened in plants regenerated from basal stem explants. The flower was not different from both mother plant and plant induced through clonal propagation of Phalaenopsis hybrid.

In this paper, active shape control of composite structure actuated by shape memory alloy (SMA) wires is presented. Hybrid composite structure was established by attaching SMA actuators on the surfaces of graphite/epoxy composite beam using bolt-joint connectors. SMA actuators were activated by phase transformation, which induced by temperature rising over austenite finish temperatures. In this paper, electrical resistive heating was applied to the hybrid composite structures to activate the SMA actuators. For faster and more accurate shape or deflection control of the hybrid composite structure, PID feedback controller was designed from numerical simulations and experimentally applied to the SMA actuators.

Generally, biped walking is difficult to control because a biped robot is a nonlinear system with various uncertainties. In this paper, we propose a hybrid sliding-mode control method using a WNN uncertainty observer for stable walking of the 5-link biped robot with model uncertainties and the external disturbance. In our control system, the sliding mode control is used as main controller for the stable walking and a wavelet neural network(WNN) is used as an uncertainty observe. to estimate uncertainties of a biped robot model, and the error compensator is designed to compensate the reconstruction error of the WNN. The weights of WNN are trained by adaptation laws that are induced from the Lyapunov stability theorem. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control system is verified through computer simulations.
Corrosion of reinforcing steel bars is a major concern for ocean engineers when reinforced concrete structures are exposed to marine environments. Evaluating the degree of corrosion and corrosion-induced defects is extremely necessary to pursue a proper retrofit or rehabilitation plan for reinforced concrete structures. A promising inspection should be carried out for the evaluation, otherwise the retrofit or rehabilitation process would be useless. Nowadays, ultrasonic guided wave-based inspection techniques become quite promising for the inspection, mainly because of their long-range propagation capability and their sensitivity to different types of defects or conditions. Evaluating haw the guided waves response to the different types of defects or conditions is quite challenging and important. This study shows how surface conditions of reinforcing bars and a corrosion-induced defect, separation, affect guided wave propagation in reinforced concrete. Experiments and associated signal analysis show the sensitivity of guided waves to the surface conditions, as well as the amounts of separation at the interface between. concrete and steel bar.

TMED(Transmission Mounted Electric Device) parallel hybrid configuration can realize EV(Electric Vehicle) mode by disengaging the clutch between an engine and a transmission-mounted motor to improve efficiencies of low load driving and regenerative braking. In the EV mode, however, jerk can be induced since there are insufficient damping elements in the drive-train. Though the jerk gives demoralizing influence upon driving comport, adding a physical damper is not applicable due to constraints of the layout. This study suggests the jerk reduction control, composed of active damping method and torque profiling method, to suppress the jerk without hardware modification. The former method creates a virtual damper by generating absorbing torque in the opposite direction of the oscillation. The latter method reduces impulse on the mated gear teeth of the drive-train by limiting the gradient of traction torque when the direction of the torque is reversed. To validate the effectiveness of the suggested strategy, a series of vehicle tests are carried out and it is observed that the amplitude of the oscillation can be reduced by up to 83%.

A breeding programme was initiated by utilizing a robust bivoltine breed CSR$_{18}$ and a polyvoltine breed Cambodge with the main objective of developing robust polyvoltine silkworm breeds/hybrids. At F$_1$ and F$_2$, parthenogenetic development was induced following warm water treatment of eggs at 46$^{\circ}C$ for 18 min followed by two backcrosses with Bl$_{67}$, an evolved polyvoltine breed. The newly developed breed was subjected for hybrid study using eight hybrid combinations in the laboratory at F$_{8}$ generation. F$_1$ hybrids between newly developed breed Bl$_{67}$ (Pg) and promising bivoltine breeds exhibited their superiority by expressing significant hybrid vigour for several economic characters like cocoon yield/10,000 larvae, cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight, cocoon shell ratio and denier. Study on cocoon shape variability revealed that cocoons of all the F$_1$ hybrids except BL$_{67}$ (Pg)${\times}$NB$_4$D$_2$ were found comparatively uniform in shape.pe.
A hybrid model consisting of a modified TAB (Taylor Analogy Breakup) model and DVM (Discrete Vortex Method) is proposed for numerical analysis of the evaporating spray phenomena in diesel engines. The simulation process of the hybrid model is divided into three steps. First, the droplet breakup of injected fuel is analyzed by using the modified TAB model. Second, spray evaporation is calculated based on the theory of Siebers'liquid length. The liquid length analysis of injected fuel is used to integrate the modified TAB model and DVM. Lastly, both ambient gas flow and inner vortex flow of injected fuel are analyzed by using DVM. An experiment with an evaporative free spray at the early stage of its injection was conducted under in-cylinder like conditions to examine an accuracy of the present hybrid model. The calculated results of the gas jet flow by DVM agree well with the experimental results. The calculated and experimental results all confirm that the ambient gas flow dominates the downstream diesel spray flow.
Three-dimensional transient simulation of laser-GMA hybrid welding involving multiple physical phenomena is conducted neglecting the interaction effect of laser and arc heat sources. To reproduce the bubble and pore formations in welding process, a new bubble model is suggested and added to the established laser and arc welding models comprehending VOF, Gaussian laser and arc heat source, recoil pressure, arc pressure, electromagnetic force, surface tension, multiple reflection and Fresnel reflection models. Based on the models mentioned above, simulations of laser-GMA hybrid butt welding are carried out and besides the molten pool flow, top and back bead formations could be observed. In addition, the laser induced keyhole formation and bubble generation duo to keyhole collapse are investigated. The bubbles are ejected from the molten pool through its top and bottom regions. However, some of those are entrapped by solid-liquid interface and remained as pores. Those bubbles and pores are intensively generated when the absorption of laser power is largely reduced and consequently the full penetration changes to the partial penetration.
