  • 3D rendering is becoming a common feature of mobile application programs with the rapid advance of mobile devices. Since the existing rendering engines do not provide triangulation functions, mobile 3D programs have focused on an efficient handling with pre-tessellated geometry. In addition, triangulation is comparatively expensive in computation, so it seems that the triangulation cannot be easily implemented on mobile devices with limited resources. Triangulation of 3D geometry is the essential process of visualization of 3D model data and many different triangulation methods have been reported. We developed a light and fast visualization process that involves constrained triangulation based on Voronoi diagram and applied it to a mobile computer application. In this paper, we applied kd-tree to the original incremental construction algorithm and produced new O(nlogn) incremental construction algorithm. And we show a simple and efficient constrained triangulation method based on Voronoi diagram. This paper also describes an implementation of mobile STEP data viewer as an application of our proposed algorithms.

  • In this paper, we investigate a problem of updating sequential patterns when new transactions are added to a database. We present an efficient updating algorithm for sequential pattern mining that incrementally updates added transactions by reusing frequent patterns found previously. Our performance study shows that this method outperforms both AprioriAll and PrefixSpan algorithm which updates from scratch, since our method can efficiently utilize reduced candidate sets which result from the incremental updating technique.

  • The efficiency of photovoltaic generation systems depends on the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique. Among the various schemes presented in the literature, the incremental conductance (INC) method is one of the most frequently used due to its superb tracking ability under changes in insolation and temperature. Generally, conventional INC algorithms implement a simple duty-cycle updating rule that is mainly found on the polarity of the peak-power evaluation function. However, this fails to maximize the performance in both steady-state and transient conditions. In order to overcome this limitation, a novel regulated INC (r-INC) method is proposed in this paper. Like the compensators in automatic control systems, this method applies a digital compensator to evaluate the INC function and improve the capability of power tracking. Precise modeling of a new MPPT system is also presented in the optimized design process. A 120W boost peak power tracker is utilized to obtain comparative test results and to confirm the superiority of the proposed method over existing techniques.

  • The Resource Description Framework(RDF), which emerged with the semantic web, is settling down as a standard for representing information about the resources in the World Wide Web Hence, a lot of research on storing and query processing RDF documents has been done and several RDF storage systems, such as Sesame and Jena, have been developed. But the research on updating RDF documents is still insufficient. When a RDF document is changed, data in the RDF triple store also needs to be updated. However, current RDF triple stores don't support incremental update. So updating can be peformed only by deleting the old version and then storing the new document. This updating method is very inefficient because RDF documents are steadily updated. Furthermore, it makes worse when several RDF documents are stored in the same database. In this paper, we propose an incremental update algorithm on RDF, documents in triple stores. We use a text matching technique for two versions of a RDF document and compensate for the text matching result to find the right target triples to be updated. We show that our approach efficiently update RDF documents through experiments with real-life RDF datasets.

  • Formation of a soil plug in an open-ended pile is a very important factor in determining the pile behavior both during driving and during static loading. The degree of soil plugging can be represented by the incremental filling ratio (IFR) which is defined as the change in the plug length to the change of the pile embedment length. The experimental tests carried out in this research contain 138 tests that are divided as follows: 36 tests for single pile, 36 tests for pile group ($2{\times}1$), 36 tests for pile group ($2{\times}2$) and 30 pile group ($2{\times}3$). All tubular piles were tested using the poorly graded sand from the city of Karbala in Iraq. The sand was prepared at three different densities using a raining technique. Different parameters are considered such as method of installation, relative density, removal of soil plug with respect to length of plug and pile length to diameter ratio. The soil plug is removed using a new device which is manufactured to remove the soil column inside open pipe piles group installed using driving and pressing device. The principle of soil plug removal depends on suction of sand inside the pile. It was concluded that the incremental filling ratio (IFR) is changed with the changing of soil state and method of installation. For driven pipe pile group, the average IFR for piles in loose is 18% and 19.5% for L/D=12 and 15, respectively, while the average of IFR for driven piles in dense sand is 30% and 20% for L/D=12 and L/D=15 respectively. For pressed method of pile installation, the average IFR for group is zero for loose and medium sand and about 5% for dense sand. The group capacity increases with the increase of IFR. For driven pile with length of 450 mm, the average IFR % is about 30.3% in dense sand, 14% in medium and 18.3% for loose sand while when the length of pile is 300 mm, the percentage equals to 20%, 17% and 19.5%, respectively.

  • This paper deals whth the buckling as well as postbuckling analysis of axisymmertric shells taking the initial deflection effects into account. Incremental equilibrium equations, based on the principle of virtual work, were derived by the finite element method, the successive step-by-step Newton-Raphson iterative technique was adopted. To define the transition pattern of postbuckling behavior from the prebuckling state more accurately, a simple solution method was developed, i.e. the critical load was calculated by the load extrapolation method with the determinant of tangent stiffness matrix and the equilibrium configuration in the immediate postbuckling stage was obtained by perturbation scheme and eigenvalue analysis. Degenerated isoparametric shell elements were used to analyse the axisymmetric shell of revolution. And by the method developed in this paper, the computer program applicable to the nonlinear analysis of both thin and moderately thick shells was constructed. To verify the capabilities and accuracies of the present solution method, the computed results were compared with the results of analytical solutions. These results coincided fairly well in both the small deflection and large deflection ranges. Various numerical analyses were done to show the effect of initial deflection and shape of shells on buckling load and postbuckling behavior. Futhermore, corrected directions of applied loads at every increment steps were used to determine the actual effects of large deflection in non-conservative load systems such as hydrostatic pressure load. The following conclusions can be obtained. (1) The method described in this paper was found to be both economic and effective in calculating buckling load and postbuckling behavior of shell structure. (2) Buckling and postbuckling behavior of spherical caps is critically dependent upon their geometric configuration, i.e. the shape of spherical cap and quantities of the initial deflection. (3) In the analysis of large deflection problems of shells by the incremental method, corrections of the applied load directions are needed at every incremental step to compensate the follower force effects.

  • Analog-to-digital converters(ADCs) used in instrumentation and measurements often require high absolute accuracy, including excellent linearity and negligible dc offset. Incremental(integrating) data converters(IDCs) provide a solution for such measurement applications, as they retain most of the advantages of conventional $\Delta{\Sigma}$ converters, and yet they are capable of offset-free and accurate conversion. In this paper, a design technique for implementing multiplexed incremental data converters to convert narrow bandwidth AC signals over multi-channel is discussed. It incorporates the operation principle, topology, and digital decimation filter design. The theoretical results are verified by simulation results.

  • In this paper, a MW-Mvar investment technique focused on minimizing the system loss is presented. An optimization technique, in which the system loss is defined as the objective function and the power flow equations as the constraints, is introduced to obtain the Lagrangian multipliers λP and λQ. The Lagrangian multipliers imply the variation of the system loss with respect to incremental bus power and are used as MW-Mvar investment indices for minimizing the system loss. ΔP MW and ΔQ Mvar are invested, step by step, by the priority of λP and λQ index given for each bus. Derivation of the index uses the information from normal power flow calculation.

  • Latent topic models are statistical models which automatically captures salient patterns or correlation among features underlying a data collection in a probabilistic way. They are gaining an increased popularity as an effective tool in the application of automatic semantic feature extraction from text corpus, multimedia data analysis including image data, and bioinformatics. Among the important issues for the effectiveness in the application of latent topic models to the massive data set is the efficient learning of the model. The paper proposes an accelerated learning technique for PLSA model, one of the popular latent topic models, by an incremental EM algorithm instead of conventional EM algorithm. The incremental EM algorithm can be characterized by the employment of a series of partial E-steps that are performed on the corresponding subsets of the entire data collection, unlike in the conventional EM algorithm where one batch E-step is done for the whole data set. By the replacement of a single batch E-M step with a series of partial E-steps and M-steps, the inference result for the previous data subset can be directly reflected to the next inference process, which can enhance the learning speed for the entire data set. The algorithm is advantageous also in that it is guaranteed to converge to a local maximum solution and can be easily implemented just with slight modification of the existing algorithm based on the conventional EM. We present the basic application of the incremental EM algorithm to the learning of PLSA and empirically evaluate the acceleration performance with several possible data partitioning methods for the practical application. The experimental results on a real-world news data set show that the proposed approach can accomplish a meaningful enhancement of the convergence rate in the learning of latent topic model. Additionally, we present an interesting result which supports a possible synergistic effect of the combination of incremental EM algorithm with parallel computing.

  • Utilization and demand of UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) for the generation of 3D city model are increasing. In this study, we performed an experiment to adjustment position/orientation of UAV with incomplete attitude information and to extract point cloud data. In order to correct the attitude of the UAV, the rotation angle was calculated by using the continuous position information of UAV movements. Based on this, the corrected position/orientation information was obtained by applying IBA (Incremental Bundle Adjustment) based on photogrammetry. Each pair was transformed into an epipolar image, and the MDR (Multi-Dimensional Relaxation) technique was applied to obtain high precision DSM. Each extracted pair is aggregated and output in the form of a single point cloud or DSM. Using the DJI inspire1 and Phantom4 images, we can confirm that the point cloud can be extracted which expresses the railing of the building clearly. In the future, research will be conducted on improving the matching performance and establishing sensor models of oblique images. After that, we will continue the image processing technology for the generation of the 3D city model through the study of the extraction of 3D cloud It should be developed.
