  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid-recognition system to obtain the state information and control the Internet of Things (IoT) based smart devices using two recognitions. First, we use a facial recognition for checking the owner of the mobile devices, i.e., smartphones, tablet PCs, and so on, and obtaining the state information of the IoT based smart devices, i.e., smart cars, smart appliance, and so on, and then we use a fingerprint recognition to control them. Further, in the conventional system, the message of the state and control information between the mobile devices and smart devices is only exchanged through the cellar mobile network. Thus, we also propose a direct communication to reduce the total transmission time. In addition, we develop a testbed of the proposed system using smartphones, desktop computers, and Arduino vehicle as one of the smart devices. We evaluate the total transmission time between the conventional and direct communications and show that the direct communication with the proposed system has better performance.

  • It is necessary to apply an exact data and a precise prediction model for a rain attenuation to design the link margin for a data link using Ku-band with the serious effect by rain. In this paper, we investigate the regional rainfall-rate distribution of Korea proposed in TTAK.KO-06.0122/R1 and compare it with the distribution provided by Rec. ITU-R PN.837-1 and Crane. And, the rain rate climate regions similar with the rainfall-rate distribution of Korea in Rec. ITU-R PN.837-1 and Crane model are selected. Finally, using Rec. ITU-R P.618-8 and Crane rain attenuation prediction model, we derive and analyze the rain attenuation for Ku-band frequency according to the time percentage of an average year and the distance of wireless communication link between unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and ground data terminal (GDT).

  • Cross-culturally, acts of sharing are recognized as an effective method to initiate and maintain human relationships in real-life situations by promoting continuous reciprocal exchanges between donors and recipients. Specifically, this study examines the effects of sharing a media product from the perspective of the givers, as compared to effects on the receivers. "Gangnam Style," a Korean music video, is of interest because it was spontaneously shared worldwide by young adults who used it as a vehicle to build and strengthen social relationships, among young adults. While both the givers and receivers of the "Gangnam Style" benefited from bridging new relationships, the results of this study found that those who gave "Gangnam Style" benefited more in terms bonding already existing relationships, compared to those who received materials. This study provides further evidence in support of the "sender-effect" paradigm and enhances our understanding of how online sharing contributes to the construction of social capital among the young adults.

  • Nowadays unmanned ground systems are used in supporting of surveillance and explosive ordnance disposal. Also, we expect that will be used to remarkably enhance combat capability through network-based cooperative operations with other combat systems. In order to effectively develop those unmanned systems, we needs a systematic method to analyze combat effectiveness and validate required operation capabilities. In this paper, we propose a practical approach to simulate remote-operated unmanned ground systems by using OneSAF, an US-Army simulation framework. First of all, we design a simulation model of unmanned system by integrating with core components for wireless communications and remote control of mobility and fire. Next, we extend OneSAF functionality to create communication links that connects a remote controller with an unmanned vehicle and define a simulated behavior to operate unmanned vehicles via the communication links. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed model within OneSAF and summarize system effectiveness analysis results.

  • Security over VANET among vehicles and between vehicles and infrastructures has been studied. Through the research, ensuring the message authentication and confidentiality was possible. However, authentication on drivers and vehicles were not actively covered. Once, malicious user using illegal vehicle joins VANET and then generates mistaken information, other drivers' safety will be driven to crisis. For this reason, in the paper, we present a novel authentication method between drivers and vehicles and then only right vehicles and users can participate in VANET. As a result of this, drivers can enjoy their safe and comfortable trip.

  • Bi-modal tram is a new conceptual transit mean for public transportation integrating thoroughfare and railroad vehicle's characteristics together. This paper describes about a software design which will be applied to an automatic driving system, which is called NCS (Navigation Control System), considering such multiplicity of mechanical characteristic. The NCS adopts propulsion, braking, and direction control functions for a tram and utilizes various sensors to fully take control over such functions. In this paper, we defined and analyzed the capabilities of the NCS. Those capabilities are designed with a UML 2.0 based object-oriented modeling technique. Moreover, to ensure the complete operation of such capabilities, a communication protocol (which is capable of controlling sensors, propulsion, brakes, and traveling directions) is designed here. Throughout the paper, firstly, all the NCS related functions are discussed in accordance with the equipments they are belonged to; secondly the UML modeling application techniques for the defined functions and protocols for the communications between equipments are introduced; and lastly a validation process for the design specifications is going to be discussed.
