  • Gamma irradiation is one of the simple methods used to induce mutagenesis. Therefore, it is widely used for the development of breeding lineages of plants and algae. In this study, it was developed a new variety of Pyropia yezoensis using gamma irradiation. It was applied a dose of 1 kGy and named the developed mutant Py1k. The blade with width of the mutant was narrower and the blade length was longer than those of the wild type. To further investigate the mutant, it was analyzed the nutrient composition and antioxidant activity. In comparison to those in the wild type, it was found a higher amino acid composition and marginally increased antioxidant activity in Py1k. Based on these results, it was suggests that our protocol can be utilized to develop Pyropia species with improved nutritional quality through gamma irradiation.

  • Concrete slab cracks monitoring of modern high-speed railway is important for safety and reliability of train operation, to prevent catastrophic failure, and to reduce maintenance costs. This paper proposes a curvature filtering improved crack detection method in concrete slabs of high-speed railway via graph-based anomalies calculation. Firstly, large curvature information contained in the images is extracted for the crack identification based on an improved curvature filtering method. Secondly, a graph-based model is developed for the image sub-blocks anomalies calculation where the baseline of the sub-blocks is acquired by crack-free samples. Once the anomaly is large than the acquired baseline, the sub-block is considered as crack-contained block. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method performs better than convolutional neural network method even under different curvature structures and illumination conditions. This work therefore provides a useful tool for concrete slabs crack detection and is broadly applicable to variety of infrastructure systems.

  • In order to assess the impact of proprioceptive exercises on the position sense ability of the knee joint, we conducted an analysis using Biodex System $3pro^{(R)}$, targeting 42 ordinary people (male=22, female=20). After applying proprioceptive exercise, we measured changes in balance and flexibility, and active articular position sense (AAPS), depending on gender. To find out the change in each measurement item variable, we carried out dependent t-tests. The statistical significance level was set to 0.05. The research showed that after applying the proprioceptive exercise, AAPS was significantly improved for both men and women (p<.01). In the case of women, the flexibility was significantly improved (p<.01). Also, the balance was significantly improved for both men and women (p<.01). Therefore, the proprioceptive exercise program is considered to be very useful in improving muscle and joint function, and preventing injuries. Thus, continuous clinical studies using Biodex system $3pro^{(R)}$ are required for a variety of scientific evaluations of proprioceptive skills.

  • In the design of sensorless control system for induction motor, high-precision speed estimation is one of the most difficult problems. To solve this problem, the common method is model reference adaptive method (MRAS). MRAS requires accurate motor parameters to estimate rotor speed precisely. However, when motor is running, the variety of temperature and magnetic saturation will lead to the change of motor parameters such as stator resistance and rotor resistance, which will lower the accuracy of the speed estimation. To improve the accuracy and rapidity of speed estimation, this paper analyses the mutual MRAS speed identification based on rotor flux linkage, and proposes an improved mutual MRAS speed identification based on back-EMF. The improved method is verified by Simulink simulation and motor experimental platform based on DSP2812. The results of simulation and experiment indicate that the method proposed by this paper can significantly improve the accuracy of speed identification, and speed up the response of identification.

  • Today, weather radar is used as a key tool for modern high-tech weather observations and forecasts, along with a wide variety of ground gauges and weather satellites. In this paper, we propose a frequency transform based weather radar image processing technique to improve the weather radar image damaged by beam blocking and clutter removal in order to minimize the uncertainty of the weather radar observation. In the proposed method, DCT based mean energy correction is performed to improve damage caused by beam shielding, and DWT based morphological image processing and high frequency cancellation are performed to improve damage caused by clutter removal. Experimental results show that the application of the proposed method to the damaged original weather radar image improves the quality of weather radar image adaptively to the weather echo feature around the damaged area. In addition, radar QPE calculated from the improved weather radar image was also qualitatively confirmed to be improved by the damage. In the future, we will develop quantitative evaluation scales through continuous research and develop an improved algorithm of the proposed method through numerical comparison.

  • Atopic allergy implies a familial tendency to manifest alone or in combination such as asthma, rhinitis, urticaria and atopic dermatitis. The patient with atopic dermatitis shows a variety of humoral and cell-mediated immune dysfunction, including an elevation of serum IgE level, multiple positive immediate skin tests to a variety of antigen. A 30 year old female patient suffering from an atopic dermatitis on face, has been administered a stellate ganglion block(SGB) with a 1% mepivacaine 5cc. She complained of bronchial hyperresponsivness such as cough, soreness, and inspiration difficulty for 5 days following the treatment, so we have reduced 1% mepivacaine dose from 5cc to 3cc. She had no complain of bronchial hyperresponsivenss and the lesion of atopic dermatitis was improved. From our result we conclude that SGB appears to be a good choice for the treatment of the atopic dermatitis and only 1% mepivacaine 3cc is possible in complete SGB.
