The power supply systems, which require low-voltage / high-current output has been changing from the conventional centralized power system to a distributed power system. The distributed power system consists of a bus converter and POL. The most important factor is the system stability in bus architecture design. The overlap between the output impedance of a bus converter input impedance of POL causes system instability and has been an actual problem. By increasing the bus capacitor, the system stability can be easily improved. However, due to limited space on the system board, the increasing of bus capacitors is impractical. An urgent solution of this issue is strongly desired. This paper presents the output impedance design for on-board distributed power system by means of three control schemes of a bus converter. The output impedance peak of the bus converter and the input impedance of the POL are analyzed and then conformed experimentally for stability criterion. Furthermore, the design process of each control schemes for system stability is proposed.
This paper proposes impedance-based stability analysis of DC-DC boost converters, where a harmonic state space (HSS) modeling technique is used. At first, the HSS model of the boost converter is developed. Then, the closed-loop output impedance of the converter is derived in frequency domain using small signal modeling including frequency couplings, where harmonic transfer function (HTF) matrices of the open-loop output impedance, the duty-to-output, and the voltage controller are involved. The frequency response of the output impedance reveals a resonance frequency at low frequency region and frequency couplings at sidebands of switching frequency which agree with the simulation and experimental result.
The Underground pipeline facility is a general but most important facility in modern world, but its maintainability has been left behind. An automated and intelligent management technology is needed to prevent the wast of social resource and security. In this paper, we introduce Pipeline Health Monitoring(PHM) with Ubiquitous Sensor Network(USN) for inexpensive structure safety monitoring system, and improve its utility by inventing the advanced impedance converter.

A bidirectional exponential-gain switched-capacitor (SC) DC-DC converter is developed in this paper. When compared with existing exponential SC converters, the number of switches is significantly reduced and its structure is simplified. The voltage transfer features, voltage ripple across capacitors, efficiency and output impedance of the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. Optimization of the output impedance is also discussed and the best type of capacitance distribution is determined. A common function of the voltage gain to the output impedance is found among the proposed converter and other popular SC voltage multipliers. Experimental evaluation is carried out with a 6-24V bidirectional prototype converter.
Common mode (CM) chokes are a crucial part in EMI filters for mitigating the electromagnetic interference (EMI) of switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) and for meeting electromagnetic compatibility standards. However, the parasitic capacitances of a CM choke deteriorate its high frequency filtering performance, which results in increases in the design cycle and cost of EMI filters. Therefore, this paper introduces a negative capacitance generated by a negative impedance converter (NIC) to cancel the influence of equivalent parallel capacitance (EPC). In this paper, based on a CM choke equivalent circuit, the EPCs of CM choke windings are accurately calculated by measuring their impedance. The negative capacitance is designed quantitatively and the EPC cancellation mechanisms are analyzed. The impedance of the CM choke in parallel with negative capacitances is tested and compared with the original CM choke using an impedance analyzer. Moreover, a CL type CM filter is added to a fabricated NIC prototype, and the insertion loss of the prototype is measured to verify the cancellation effect. The prototype is applied to a power converter to test the CM conducted noise. Both small signal and EMI measurement results show that the proposed technique can effectively cancel the EPCs and improve the CM filter's high frequency filtering performance.
In this paper, we proposed a high frequency equivalent circuit considering parasitic impedance components for differential noise analysis on the input stage during DC-DC buck converter switching operation. Based on the proposed equivalent circuit model, we presented a method to measure parasitic impedance parameters included in DC bus plate, IGBT, and PCB track using the gain phase method of a network analyzer. In order to verify the validity of this model, a DC-DC prototype consisting of a buck converter, a signal analyzer, and a LISN device, and then resonance frequency was measured in the frequency range between 150 kHz and 30 MHz. The validity of the parasitic impedance measurement method and the proposed equivalent model is verified by deriving that the measured resonance frequency and the resonance frequency of the proposed high frequency equivalent model are the same.
This paper presents a switched capacitor (SC) based bidirectional dc-dc converter topology for high voltage gain applications. The proposed converter is able to operate with multiple integral voltage conversion ratios based on user input. The architecture of a user-friendly, inductor-less multi-voltage-gain bidirectional dc-dc converter is proposed in this study. The inductor-less or magnetic-less design of the proposed converter makes it effective in higher temperature applications. Furthermore, the proposed converter has a reduced component count and lower voltage stress across its switches and capacitors when compared to existing SC converters. An output impedance analysis of the proposed converter is presented and compared with popular existing SC converters. The proposed converter is simulated in the OrCAD PSpice environment and the obtained results are presented. A 200 W hardware prototype of the proposed SC converter has been developed. Experimental results are presented to validate the efficacy of the proposed converter.
This paper presents a novel three-port converter for the OnBoard Charger of Electric Vehicles by using an impedance control network. The proposed concept is suitable for charging a main battery and an auxiliary battery of an electric vehicle at the same time due to its power handling capability of the converter without additional switches. The power flow is managed by the phase angle (${\Theta}$) between the ports whereas voltage at each port is controlled by the asymmetric duty cycle and the phase shift (${\Phi}$) between the inverter lags controlled by the impedance control network. The proposed system has a capability of achieving zero voltage switching (ZVS) and zero current switching (ZCS) at all the switches over the wide range of input voltage, output voltage and output power. The feasibility of the proposed system is verified by the PSIM simulation.
In general, LLC converters show great promise in applications that require high efficiency, especially under light load conditions. In particular, LLC converters feature wide gain capability with pulse-frequency modulation and zero voltage switching over entire load conditions. However, output voltage increases in light load conditions. In this study, Bode plot and impedance asymptotes analyses were conducted to obtain insights into the regulation characteristics of LLC converters under light load conditions. To improve the regulation characteristic of LLC converters, a new resonant tank with an additional capacitor is proposed. The design guideline for the proposed LLC converter is determined by the Bode plot and impedance asymptotes analyses. Therefore, the proposed LLC converter achieves the light load regulation while maintaining the advantages of typical LLC converters.
This paper presents a CMOS RF-to-DC converter for video surveillance disposable IoT applications. It widely harvests RF energy of 3G/4G cellular low-band frequency range by employing a tunable impedance matching network. The proposed converter consists of the differential-drive cross-coupled rectifier and the matching network with a 4-bit capacitor array. The proposed converter is designed using 130-nm standard CMOS process. The designed energy harvester can rectify the RF signals from 700 MHz to 900 MHz. It has a peak RF-to-DC conversion efficiency of 72.25%, 64.97%, and 66.28% at 700 MHz, 800 MHz, and 900 MHz with a load resistance of 10kΩ, respectively.
