  • Pressure relief valve (PRV) is one of the important control valves used in nuclear power plants, and its sealing performance is crucial to ensure the safety and function of the entire pressure system. For the sealing performance improving purpose, an explicit function that accounts for all design parameters and can accurately describe the relationship between the multi-design parameters and the seal performance is essential, which is also the challenge of the valve seal design and/or optimization work. On this basis, a surrogate model-based design optimization is carried out in this paper. To obtain the basic data required by the surrogate model, both the Finite Element Model (FEM) and the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based numerical models were successively established, and thereby both the contact stresses of valve static sealing and dynamic impact (between valve disk and nozzle) could be predicted. With these basic data, the polynomial chaos expansion (PCE) surrogate model which can not only be used for inputs-outputs relationship construction, but also produce the sensitivity of different design parameters were developed. Based on the PCE surrogate model, a new design scheme was obtained after optimization, in which the valve sealing stress is increased by 24.42% while keeping the maximum impact stress lower than 90% of the material allowable stress. The result confirms the ability and feasibility of the method proposed in this paper, and should also be suitable for performance design optimizations of control valves with similar structures.

  • The effect of the tool-sheet interaction on formability enhancement in electromagnetic forming is investigated using FEM. A free bulging and a conical forming die with 0.7mm AL1050 sheet are used to evaluate damage evolution based on Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman plasticity material model. The impact between the tool and sheet results in complex stress states including compressive hydrostatic stresses, which leads to a suppression of void growth and restrain ascending void volume fraction of the sheet. Therefore, the damage suppression due to the tool-sheet interaction can be the main factor contributing to the increased formability in the electromagnetic forming process.

  • In this study, a simple two-dimensional shear deformation model is employed for buckling analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates. The proposed theory has a kinematic with integral terms which considers the influence of shear deformation without using "shear correction factors". The impact of varying material properties and volume fraction of the constituent on buckling response of the FG plate is examined and discussed. The benefit of this theory over other contributions is that a number of variables is reduced. The basic equations that consider the influence of transverse shear stresses are derived from the principle of virtual displacements. The analytical solutions are obtained utilizing the "Navier method". The accuracy of the proposed theory is proved by comparisons with the different solutions found in the literature.

  • In this paper, free vibration, forced vibration, resonance and stress wave propagation behavior in nanocomposite plates reinforced by wavy carbon nanotube (CNT) are studied by a mesh-free method based on first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The plates are resting on Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation and subjected to periodic or impact loading. The distributions of CNTs are considered functionally graded (FG) or uniform along the thickness and their mechanical properties are estimated by an extended rule of mixture. In the mesh-free analysis, moving least squares (MLS) shape functions are used for approximation of displacement field in the weak form of motion equation and the transformation method is used for imposition of essential boundary conditions. Effects of CNT distribution, volume fraction, aspect ratio and waviness, and also effects of elastic foundation coefficients, plate thickness and time depended loading are examined on the vibrational and stresses wave propagation responses of the nanocomposite plates reinforced by wavy CNT.

  • The effects of heat input(1.5~3.6kJ/mm) and postweld heat treatment(PWHT, $600^{\circ}C$, 40hr.) on the TMCP HSB600 steel weldments made by GMAW process were investigated. The tensile strength and CVN impact energy of as-welded specimens decreased with increasing heat input. The fine-grained acicular ferrite was mainly formed in the low heat input while polygonal and side plate ferrites were dominated in the high inputs. Meanwhile, tensile strength and hardness of PWHT weldments decreased due to the coarsening of microstructure and reduction of residual stresses.

  • Extrusion die-lip buildup has direct and negative impact on the properties of the final product. At the present time there is no absolute method of die-lip prevention. However, a Periodical shut down of extrusion line for the removal has been the general practice throughout the industry in concern. In this study the die-lip buildup was Investigated with a particular attention paid to the influence of die exit geometry and dimensions on the stresses produced at the point of die exit. To demonstrate the relationship between the stress state and the magnitude of the die-lip buildup, a method of virtual manufacturing was performed, assuming elastic-plastic material behavior for the high-density polyethylene under investigation. The overall numerical results suggested that the longer the die-land and/or the smaller the areal reduction of the die would reduce the tendency for the die-lip formation. Similarly, haying a fillet around the circumferential edge of the die exit would be favorable in decreasing the die-lip buildup.

  • Autophagy is one of the major degradative mechanisms that can eliminate excessive nutrients, toxic protein aggregates, damaged organelles and invading microorganisms. In response to obesity and obesity-associated lipotoxic, proteotoxic and oxidative stresses, autophagy plays an essential role in maintaining physiological homeostasis. However, obesity and its associated stress insults can often interfere with the autophagic process through various mechanisms, which result in further aggravation of obesity-related metabolic pathologies in multiple metabolic organs. Paradoxically, inhibition of autophagy, within specific contexts, indirectly produces beneficial effects that can alleviate several detrimental consequences of obesity. In this minireview, we will provide a brief discussion about our current understanding of the impact of obesity on autophagy and the role of autophagy dysregulation in modulating obesity-associated pathological outcomes.

  • Polypropylene fiber reinforced mortar and concrete as civil material or architectural material have been used in America and British etc, and have been researched. Polypropylene fibers have many advantages in many points ; in economical costs, chemical stability and durability. It has been reported that polypropylene fiber can control restrained tensile stresses and cracks and increase toughness, resistance to impact, corrosion, fatigue and durability. This study has been performed to obtain the properties of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete such as compressive strength, flexural strength, toughness, slump, drying shrinkage crack and drying shrinkage characteristics. The test variables are fiber contents, fiber length, fiber types, and so on. From the results of this study, we can expect the effects of the admixtures of polypropylene fiber about strength and drying shrinkage properties in concrete and mortar.

  • Traction motors that is one of the rotating machines for urban transit EMU have been subjected to increased demand for higher operating temperature, more demanding duty cycles, higher starting current, frequent voltage transients and severe environmental exposure. With the advent of PWM drives using power IGBTs in addition to the thermal considerations, it is important to take into account the impact of the dielectric stress upon the winding insulation system life. In analyzing the life of the stator winding, which is the heart of the motor, the majority of all winding failures are usually caused by a combination of various stresses acting on the insulation materials and system. In this paper, to evaluate the expected life of traction motor for urban transit E.M.U. it is proposed a new test method of complex accelerating degradation.

  • Cold spray (Cold gas dynamic spray, kinetic spray) is the latest spray coating process that is known as solid state deposition process. In cold spray, inert gases (typically nitrogen and helium) accelerate powder particles prior to impact onto the substrate. Accelerating particles start to deposit onto the substrate after reaching certain critical velocities depending on the coating materials and substrate. Since process gas temperatures are kept below to melting temperature of the coating materials, it is possible to spray temperature sensitive materials such as copper and titanium, nanocrystal materials, and amorphous metals without affecting the phase change and oxide formation. It is also possible to deposit thick coatings because cold spray coatings present compressive residual stresses. This ability to deposit thick coatings is suitable to repair or rebuild parts as an additive manufacturing process. In this presentation, cold spray is introduced and compared to other additive manufacturing processes such as laser and electron beam based processes. It is also presented some applications especially in the view point of additive manufacturing process.
