An E-score Development Methodology for Life Cycle Impact Assessment

  • This study is to make LCIA(Life Cycle Impact Assessment) easier as a methodology of environmental scores(called E-score) that integrated environmental load of each emission substance based on environmental damage such as in human health, ecosystem and resources category. The concept is to analyzes the LCI(Life Cycle Inventory) and defines the level of environment damages for human health, ecosystem and resources to objective impact assessment standard, and makes the base of marginal damage to calculate the damage factor, which can present the indication that can establish the standard value of environmental impact. First, damages to human health are calculated by fate analysis, effect analysis and damage analysis to get the damage factor of health effect as a DALY(Disability Adjusted Life Years) unit. Second, damages to ecosystem are calculated by fate analysis, effect analysis and damage analysis to get the damage factor of the effect as a PDF(Potentially Disappeared Fraction) unit through linking potentially increased disappeared fraction. Third, damages to resources are carried out by resource analysis and damage analysis for linking the lower fate to surplus energy conception to get damage factor as a MJ(Mega Joule) unit. For the ranking of relative environment load level each other, LCIA can be carried out effectively by applying this E-score methodology to the particular emission substances. A case study has been introduced for the emission substances coming out of a tire manufacturer in Korea. It is to show how to work the methodology. Based on such study result, product-designers or producers now can apply the E-scores presented in this study to the substances of emission list, and then calculate the environment load of the product or process in advance at any time and can see the environment performance comparatively and expected to contribute to the environmental improvement in view of environmental pollution prevention.

지속가능한 개발을 위한 교육의 활성화를 위한 환경영향평가영역의 활용가능성 연구 - 고등학교 환경교과서를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Availability of EIA in High School)

  • This study aims to analyze the objectives of environmental education in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the Education for Sustainable Development(ESD) factors used EIA in 'ecology and environment' textbook, and finally to analyze the situation and contents level of EIA domain in textbook to explore the possibility of the positive availability of EIA domain in high school for realization of effective ESD. To analyze the objectives of environmental education in EIA and ESD factors used EIA, researchers used the text, the activity and the teaching tip in three kinds of 'ecology and environment' textbook by the 7th curricula as the object of analysis. Framework to analyze the objectives of environmental education in EIA is the category of environmental education objectives of UNESCO presented according to 'Tbilisi Intergovernmental Conference on Environmental Education' and framework to analyze ESD factors used EIA is developed on the basis of the theory about EIA and ESD factors updated in this study. In conclusion, it proves that the EIA domain through the activity is effective for realization of ESD. According to the analysis of the study, it is proposed that the follow-up studies on the improvement of EIA domain in textbook in both quality and quantity as well as 'the teaching & learning methods and various development of teaching materials, etc: based on the emphasis on the activity are needed to progress steadily for realization of effective ESD in high school in the future.

환경영향평가 내용의 문제점과 개선방안 -문화재항목의 영향평가를 중심으로- (A Study on the Improvement and Problems of Environmental Impact Assessment)

  • The objective of this study is to prepare a proposal for desired changes in the laws and regulations system of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) about cultural assets preservation. The related Korean regulatory system and literature for EIA have been surveyed and case studies have been analyzed and actual cases where cultural assets protection were of issue have been studied to deduce the problems of those areas. Based on the result of this study, proposed changes are as follows; 1. "Status of cultural Assets" is to be included as common assessment factor for all categories of object projects in "Table 2: Essential Assessment Factors for Individual Project Category" of "Ordinance for Preparation of EIA Statement, etc." 2. "Status of Underground Cultural Assets and Potential Underground Cultural Assets" is to be inserted as a survey factor in "Table 3:Format of and Instruction for Impact Statement". 3. The clause of "-- the survey should be performed on-site and the investigation report should be submitted." is to be inserted in methods of survey in "Table 3". 4. Ground survey of cultural assets should be performed prior to completion of project planning, that is, from the stage of pre-study for site selection. 5. The application of impact abatement from "Methods and Plants for Impacts Abatement" of "Report for Development of EIA Statement Technologies" should be included, with proper modification of timing, in "Ordinance for Preparation of EIA Statement, etc." 6. The expense liability clause in "Cultural Assets Preservation Act" is to be revised as "a certain ratio of expenses for excavation should be borne by the government." 7. Regulatory device for collecting appropriate opinions should be established. It may include Cultural Assets Preservation Committee's hearing to the project owner's opinion. be established. 한국 의학학술지의 SCI영향력지표 계량측정 연구 : 1991년-1999년 (A Scientometric Study SCI Impact Factors of Major Korean Medical Jernals: 1991-1999)

  • A Scientometric Study SCI Impact Factors of Major Korean Medical Jernals: 1991-1999 본 연구에서는 SCI학술지가 아니라서 Journal Citation Reports(JCR)를 통하여 영향력지표 값을 쉽기 알 수 없는 학술지들의 영향력지표값을 JCR 방식으로 산출함으로서, 한국 의학 학술지들의 구체적인 학술지 평가지표를 제시하고 국제적인 위상을 객관적으로 파악하였다. 1969년부터 1998년까지 10년간 의학분야의 국내학술지 8종에 발표된 7,779편의 논문을 대상 으로 SCI검색을 하여 연도별로 인용빈도를 측정하고 1991년부터 1999년까지의 학술지 영향 력지표를 JCR과 동일한 방식으로 계량하여 분서하였다. 한글학술지 4종의 경우에는 국내학 자들이 SCI논문을 많이 발표하는 분야의 대표적인 학술지임에도 불구하고, SCI 인용을 거 의 찾아볼 수 없었다. 영문학술지 4종에 대한 SCI 인용빈도는 1994년경부터 계속 늘어나고 있으며, 특히 1997,8년경부터는 인용주기가 짧아져서 최근 2,3년간 발표된 논문에 대한 인용 이 급증하고 있고, 따라서 영향력지표값이 높아지고 있는 것은 매우 고무적이다. 한국 의학 학술지들의 10년치 영향력지표값 평균은 0.002에서 0.126까지 분포하였으며, YMJ의 1999년 도 영항력 지표값이 0.331로 가장 높았다. 한글학술지들의 영향력지표값을 같은 분야의 SCI 학술지들과 비교하여 보면, 모두 SCI 등재학술지의 최하위 영향력지표겂보다 낮았고, 영문 학술지는 대개 최하위권이어서 한국학술지의 국제적 위상은 매우 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 한 국 의학학술지 3종은 1990년대 후반 영향력지표값이 0.2 정도가 되었을 때 SCI에 등재되기 시작하였는데, 이들은 모두 영문학술지들이다. 영문으로 발행되는 현재 MEDLINE 학술지인 KJP는 1999년의 영향력지표값이 0.198로서 SCI등재 가능성이 있는 학술지로 판단된다.

국가연구개발사업의 과학적 성과분석을 위한 새로운 계량지표 개발에 관한 연구 (Developing Bibliometric Indicators for Analysis & Evaluation of National R&D Programs)

  • 최근 연구개발 투자규모가 급속히 증가함에 따라 정부는 R&D사업의 투자효율성을 높이기 위한 다양한 정책을 구사하고 있다. 구체적으로 R&D사업에 대한 성과평가를 강화하고 평가결과를 예산의 조정 및 배분에 반영하는 등 성과중심의 평가체계를 정착시키기 위해 노력하고 있다. 이처럼 국가연구개발사업에 대한 평가가 성과중심으로 체계화되기 위해서는 R&D 성과물을 과학적 객관적으로 분석할 수 있는 성과지표의 개발이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 전 부처 연구개발사업에 공통으로 적용할 수 있는 성과지표인 SCI논문지표를 바탕으로 교육과학기술부 3대 연구개발사업에 대한 구체적인 사례분석을 실시하여 이들 사업이 우리나라 전체 R&D에서 차지하는 질적 양적 위상을 파악하고자 하였다. 이러한 분석을 위해 SCI 관련 기존지표와 더불어 4개의 신규지표를 소개하였고 신규지표들의 타당성 조사를 위해 모의실험을 실시하였다. 그 결과 보완된 순위보정영향력지수(ordinal rank normalized impact factor, omIF)가 분야간 비교 시 가장 적절한 성과지표인 것으로 분석되었다.

  • 본 연구는 상가부동산의 권리금 결정요인을 입지, 인테리어 및 시설, 통행량, 매출액, 밀집도로 선정하여 대학로 및 동숭로 상가 임차인 대상으로 설문 분석한 결과 입지가 가장 큰 영향을 미치며, 다음은 매출액, 통행량, 인테리어 및 시설이고 밀집도는 영향이 미미하였다. 또한 성별, 연령, 학력, 업태, 소득 차이를 분석한 결과 외부적인 요소와 내부적인 요소가 복합적으로 권리금에 영향을 주는 것으로 분석하였다. 이 결과를 신규 창업자 및 점포이전 임차인들에게 제공하여 사업 성공에 기여하고자 한다.

한국 자연보호구역 현황 및 향후 개선방안 -호주의 사례를 중심으로- (The Current Status and Future Prospective of Protected Areas in Korea - Case study in Protected Areas of Australia -)

  • This study aimed at comparing protected areas of Korea and Australia based on international conservation criteria by IUCN and analyzing what we need to improve for future management of protected areas of Korea. The registration status of protected areas of Korea listed on IUCN were 11 places in the Ia, 17 in II, 7 in IV, 7 in V; in total 42 places were recorded. However, the lists were missing many important areas. In Korea, we have only 4 protected area categories out of 6 indicating ecological diversity and management in its protected area system are insufficient. On the other hand, 9340 protected areas of Australia were listed on IUCN and evenly distributed in the total of six categories. Therefore, Korea should investigate measures for system establishment which ensures the diversity and indicative of our natural ecosystems and establish balanced system of protected areas including all IUCN categories I-VI through revaluation of natural, cultural, economic and social conditions and the needs.

  • Objective: Clinical and Experimental Reproductive Medicine (CERM) converted its language to English only beginning with the first issue of 2011. From that point in time, one of the goals of the journal has been to become a truly international journal. This paper aims to identify the position of CERM in its scholarly journal network based on the journal's metrics. Methods: The journal's metrics, including citations, countries of author affiliation, and countries of citing authors, Hirsch index, and proportion of funded articles, were gathered from Web of Science and analyzed. Results: The two-year impact factor of 2013 was calculated at 0.971 excluding self-citation, which corresponds to a Journal Citation Reports ranking of 85.9% in the category of obstetrics and gynecology. In 2012, 2013, and 2014, the total citations were 17, 68, and 85, respectively. Authors from nine countries contributed to CERM. Researchers from 25 countries cited CERM in their articles. The Hirsch index was six. Out of 88 original articles, 35 studies received funds (39.8%). Conclusion: Based on the journal metrics, changing the journal language to English was found to be successful in promoting CERM to international journal status.

Life cycle analysis of concrete and asphalt used in road pavements

  • The article examines the impact differences between producing concrete and asphalt. Both materials are widely used in the construction industry. Construction activities account for a large portion of greenhouse gases. Therefore, it is important to consider the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) to reduce environmental impacts. In this study, the material processes were inputted into an LCA program called SimaPro. The database used for the study was Ecoinvent as it is one of the major databases within SimaPro. The materials were compared against impacts per kg of material produced as the functional unit. Each process was created using the materials, energy and transportation required to produce the materials. Waste streams were also included in the process to determine the impacts after the product was done with its useful life. Using the ReCiPe method, an LCA was conducted. Midpoint and endpoint categories were examined for both the productions. The processes had similar results for the human health and ecosystems categories; however asphalt was marginally higher for both. Asphalt had exceeded concrete in the resource impact category by 100 mPt. The results indicate that concrete is the more sustainable building material. Determination of various impacts of the materials is important for material selection.

LISREL 구조방정식 모델에 의한 농촌 관광농원의 환경친화성 평가 모형 추정 (Evaluation Model for Environmentally Friendliness of Tourism Farms by LISREL Structural Equation Model)

  • Recently, new concept and paradigm of 'Environmentally-Friendliness' is taking a growing interest in environmental planning and design. This study is to establish the evaluation model for environmentally-friendliness of 'Tourism Farms' in rural areas by LISREL structural equation model. A questionnaire survey was conducted for deputy manager group and expert group. As the Result of LISREL structural equation model, the environmentally-friendliness of tourism farms is composed of three categories. First, conservation of global environment (Low Impact), second, friendliness to surrounding nature(High Contact), and third, environmental health and amenities (Health & Amenity). Five indicators, such as (1)saving of energy and water resource, (2)reduction and reuse of garbage, (3)natural purification of sewage disposal, (4)utilization of natural energy, (5)campaign and education programs of environmentally-friendliness, were affecting the first category, i.e., conservation of global environment(Low Impact). Friendliness to surrounding nature (High Contact) is affected by 3 indicators, (1)contact to nature and diverse green areas, (2)water intimate & contact areas, (3)natural ecology observation by biotope. Finally, the dimension of environmental health and amenity is affected by 3 indicators, (1)nature affinity by farming experience, (2)environmental-friendliness of soil & crops by organic farming, (3) campaign and education programs of environmentally-friendliness. Total coefficient of determination of the structural equation model by LISREL was 0.897, which showed high explanatory power.
