  • We present new constraints on the cosmic optical background (COB) obtained from an analysis of the Pioneer 10/11 Imaging Photopolarimeter (IPP) data. After careful examination of the data quality, the usable measurements free from the zodiacal light are integrated into sky maps at the blue (${\sim}0.44{\mu}m$) and red (${\sim}0.64{\mu}m$) bands. Accurate starlight subtraction was achieved by referring to all-sky star catalogs and a Galactic stellar population synthesis model down to 32.0 mag. We find that the residual light is separated into two components: one component shows a clear correlation with the thermal $100{\mu}m$ brightness, whilst the other shows a constant level in the lowest $100{\mu}m$ brightness region. The presence of the second component is significant after all the uncertainties and possible residual light in the Galaxy are taken into account, thus it most likely has an extragalactic origin (i.e., the COB). The derived COB brightness is ($(1.8{\pm}0.9){\times}10^{-9}$ and $(1.2{\pm}0.9){\times}10^{-9}\;erg\;s^{-1}\;cm^{-2}\;sr^{-1}\;{\AA}^{-1}$ in the blue and red spectral regions, respectively, or $7.9{\pm}4.0$ and $7.7{\pm}5.8\;nW\;m^{-2}\;sr^{-1}$. Based on a comparison with the integrated brightness of galaxies, we conclude that the bulk of the COB is comprised of normal galaxies which have already been resolved by the current deepest observations. There seems to be little room for contributions from other populations including "first stars" at these wavelengths. On the other hand, the first component of the IPP residual light represents the diffuse Galactic light (DGL)-scattered starlight by the interstellar dust. We derive the mean DGL-to-$100{\mu}m$ brightness ratios of $2.1{\times}10^{-3}$ and $4.6{\times}10^{-3}$ at the two bands, which are roughly consistent with previous observations toward denser dust regions. Extended red emission in the diffuse interstellar medium is also confirmed.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Su-Gi therapy for Bell's palsy by using DITI. Methods : We investigated 16 patients with Bell's palsy who had visited in the H Korean medicine hospital in Gyeonggi Province from December 27th, 2010 to April 8th, 2015. The Su-Gi therapy was done by 1 times daily. We evaluated the change of them by using Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging and Yanagihara's unweighted grading system. Results : There aren't meaningful differences in values for the meridian points in pretest and posttest which were observed by DITI of abnormal side and normal side. There are meaningful differences in values, for abnormal side and normal side of the meridian points in pretest and posttest of DITI. It was of significance that pretest Y and average ΔT of each the meridian points in the type of hyperthermia but not in the type of hypothermia. In the Correlation analysis of values of pretest and posttest, chaotic aspects of body heat distribution in the pretest change as a relatively consistent aspects in the posttest. It wasn't of significance that Correlation Analysis of Ups and downs in temperature of TE17 and Recovery speed observed by ΔY. In simple regression analysis of posttest's Y-system values against absolute ΔT by subtracting ΔTE17 from ΔST6, we didn't predict in the pretest, but could predict significantly in the posttest(Regression coefficient : -2.11) In the regression analysis result of the meridian points' ||pretest ΔT|-|posttest ΔT||, 陽白(GB14) and 頰車(ST6) are of significance (Total R-Square=0.447). But we couldn't obtain final regression analysis model. Conclusions: These results suggest that Su-Gi therapy may be effective for Bell's palsy.

  • Augmenting the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST) microlensing campaigns with intensive observations from a ground-based network of wide-field survey telescopes would have several major advantages. First, it would enable full two-dimensional (2-D) vector microlens parallax measurements for a substantial fraction of low-mass lenses as well as planetary and binary events that show caustic crossing features. For a significant fraction of the free-floating planet (FFP) events and all caustic-crossing planetary/binary events, these 2-D parallax measurements directly lead to complete solutions (mass, distance, transverse velocity) of the lens object (or lens system). For even more events, the complementary ground-based observations will yield 1-D parallax measurements. Together with the 1-D parallaxes from WFIRST alone, they can probe the entire mass range M ≳ M. For luminous lenses, such 1-D parallax measurements can be promoted to complete solutions (mass, distance, transverse velocity) by high-resolution imaging. This would provide crucial information not only about the hosts of planets and other lenses, but also enable a much more precise Galactic model. Other benefits of such a survey include improved understanding of binaries (particularly with low mass primaries), and sensitivity to distant ice-giant and gas-giant companions of WFIRST lenses that cannot be detected by WFIRST itself due to its restricted observing windows. Existing ground-based microlensing surveys can be employed if WFIRST is pointed at lower-extinction fields than is currently envisaged. This would come at some cost to the event rate. Therefore the benefits of improved characterization of lenses must be weighed against these costs.

  • Objectives; Hapkok(L14) and Taechung(Liv3) are acupuncture points located on both sides of each foot and hand of the human body. These two points are called sakwan points. Matching these acupuncture points have a significant reason in points of not only regulating the circulation of Yin-Yang as a source point of each meridian, but also playing a basic role of twelve meridian by controling circulation of ki and blood in the whole body. There are already related documents and studies on stimulating sakwan points. Since those papers mostly studied on either hapkok or taechung, we came to have a doubt of stimulating the two point at the same time when an inbalance of Yin-Yang and ki-blood appears. Accordingly, we got to investigate how thermogram of body changes after applying an acupuncture on sakwan points. Our study is as follows ; Methods; Our study was performed on 30 normal cases(M:F=17:13) with no past history to observe the effects of the acupuncture. We measured temperature of abdomen and the back of both hands by D.I.T.I(Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging) before and after acupuncture on sakwan points. Results and Conclusion; The thermographic change on abdomen was $0.51{\pm}0.71^{\circ}C$. Temperature of abdomen after acupuncture was higher than before acupuncture with high validity(p <0.01). And the thermographic changes on the back of both hands were right hand $0.54{\pm}1.17^{\circ}C$, left hand $0.56{\pm}1.28^{\circ}C$. Temperature on the back of both hands after acupuncture was higher than before acupuncture, but the difference between them had little validity(p <0.01) In addition, we found that it doesn't necessarily follow that the thermographic changes on abdomen and back of both hands after acupuncture on sakwan points happen concurrently.

  • Purpose: To evaluate thermal effect and medication compliance of red ginseng extract. Methods: Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over clinical study was performed. Twenty four healthy, married women aged 30-45 years with FSFI score below 25 were randomly divided into two groups; red ginseng group(N=12) and placebo group(N=12). During the first 6-week period (Study1), each group was dosed with red ginseng or placebo twice a day. Before starting the second 6-week period(Study2), a crossover design was chosen with a 2-week break(Washout period). Interchanging two groups after Washout period, red ginseng and placebo were dosed to each group. The efficacy of thermal effect was measured with subjective warm sensation scale and lower abdomen temperature by Digital Infrared Thermographic imaging(DITI) before and after each 6-week period. A medication compliance was assessed after each 6-week period and the correlation medication compliance between Sasang Constitution and subjective warm sensation was analyzed. Results: Overall 23 participants completed the study. In subjective warm sensation scale, after taking placebo, all participants exhibited an improving trend, but there was no significant difference. In lower abdomen temperature by DITI, statistically significant objective thermal effect of red ginseng was also not shown. A medication compliance was higher in Yin constitution(Taeumin, Soeumin), and showed an upward trend with decreasing subjective warm sensation. But no statistically significant difference was exhibited. Conclusion: Statistically significant thermal effect of red ginseng was not shown in this study. We anticipate if a long-term clinical trial is practiced, significant thermal effect of red ginseng will be shown.

  • Each pixel of InfraRed(IR) sensor differently responds to IR light as time elapses or the sensor on/off operation is repeated. As a result, the quality of IR sensor image is deteriorated, and therefore NUC(Non-uniformity Correction) is periodically needed for IR sensor. In this paper, in order to perform NUC in the Satellite, on-board V-grooved blackbody is designed with a baffle so that the emissivity of black body is to be higher than 0.995 as well as the temperature deviation is less than $1^{\circ}C$ in the range of the infrared wave length from 3.3 to $5.2{\mu}m$. To check its performance, the emissivity and the surface temperature of the blackbody by TRT(Transfer Reference Thermometer) and IR Micrometer scanner are measured, respectively. From the results, black body design is verified and the uncertainty of NUC is estimated through the measurement results.

  • First I chose a patient group and a comparative group composed of 23 members each. Then the body temperature differences in these groups was taken with D.I.T.I. The results are as follows. 1. Average body temperature of the Hwa-Byung patient group is $36.6^{\circ}C$ and that of the comparative group is $36.4^{\circ}C$. So there is no meaningful body temperature difference. 2. The hwa-Byung patient group has higher temperature than the comparative group by ${\triangle}T>1.0^{\circ}C$ at the following acupunture points in these body parts upper and lower, left and right, anterior and posterior, trunk and limb. Especially, the body temperature difference was clear in the CV-17 (jun-Joong) and the GV-4(Myung-moon). 3. When the body temperature was compared in the upper and lower part of the back, it had meaningful differences at the upper and lower acupunture points of the back in the Hwa-Byung patient group but not in the comparative group. 4. When the body temperature was compared in the left and right part of the body, its average difference was ${\triangle}T>1.0^{\circ}C$ in the two groups and the result were meaningless. 5. When body temperature was compared in the anterior and posterior part of the body, its average difference was ${\triangle}T>1.0^{\circ}C$ in the two groups and the result were meaningless. 6. When body temperature was compared in the trunk and limb part of the body, its difference in the patient group was meaningful compared with the non-patient group. From the above results, I think that D.I.T.I. could be used to objectively visualize heat sensation of the Hwa-Byung patients and make an objective concept of Han Yul in oriental medicine.
