  • We analyzed the social issue 'image of the elderly' using Big Data and Social Network Analysis. First, we analyzed the words extracted by the text mining technique by inputting the keyword 'elderly'. As a result of analysis, the image of the elderly viewed through media such as cafes, blogs, etc. Representing the trend of the public was using the word 'Senior' the most. The image of the elderly is expressed using the word having the highest frequency in the top 10, "The elderly are 'Senior' people who are respected by society, they are organized to earn money, to earn their qualifications, to health, and to 'Seniors' who desire to work healthy up to 100 years old". The purpose of this study is to differentiate from the existing analysis method by analyzing the macro-level image of the elderly including the social discourse by collecting vast amount of data and analyzing it with the social networking technique. When the image of the elderly that the public perceives is positively expressed as 'Senior', it can be said that the direction of the current elderly policy is evaluated as a desirable direction. On the other hand, it was able to feel the 'desire' of the public who wanted to be evaluated. Therefore, the policy direction of the elderly to be applied in the future should be the policy that enables the elderly to be perceived as 'Necessary existence' in society by taking on social roles. In addition, we proposed to implement the policy of the elderly that reflects priorities such as job creation, welfare, and alienation that can activity and maintain health.

  • The objective of this study is to identify the current state of usage and needs for Smart Technology (ST) in the elderly care facilities based on the point of view of staff members. Using survey via mails, data were analyzed with responses from top- or middle-level staff members working in 171 elderly care facilities located in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheongnam-do. Results indicated that the most needed smart technology was home automation, followed by nurse call system and health monitoring. The technology with the highest feasibility was health monitoring, followed by nurse call system and video phone. Staff members in higher positions working in the elderly care facilities had the highest expectation in improving the image of their facilities by using ST, while they had low expectation for the fact that ST may increase the locus of control of the elderly. This study implies that ST implementations may vary depending on the level of responsibility of staff members and ST how people responsible for the elderly care facilities subjectively perceive the ST.

  • This study starts from the question, "Are people of the age 60 and over equally 'old?' "As the aging population has rapidly become a global issue, it is a timely question to think about whether it is appropriate to classify people aged 60 and over as senior citizens monolithically based on their chronological age. Thanks to the advancement of medical technology and ever-increasing life expectancy, there may be more differences than we thought in terms of cognitive and behavioral patterns among the elderly population. In order to further investigate this question, this study focuses on technology acceptance behavior of 132 participants over the age of 60 towards a wearable healthcare device. The results show that there were interesting behavioral differences among participants depending on their cognitive capabilities. More specifically, participants with high cognitive capability (Superagers) consider the usefulness and the social aspects (social norm and image) of using wearable healthcare technology. Whereas for those with relatively low cognitive capability (non-Superagers), usefulness of using the technology was not a significant factor, and they mainly considered social norm and image. Our findings imply that the current monolithic application of chronological age to classify the elderly population should be carefully reconsidered because people aged over 60 years old may not always share homogeneous cognitive and behavioral patterns.

  • PURPOSE: This study is research about deep trunk muscles (DTM) that is important and serve to control the movement of the trunk to provide stability during movement for human. In this study, trying to prove a change of DTM of aging in the ultrasound image. METHODS: We measured via an ultrasound image during rest and contraction of DTM in 42 young and 48 old people, and then we measured the change of thickness and symmetry. RESULTS: Symmetry showed a significant difference only external oblique (EO) in the young(p<.05). In the elderly, it was found that ratio of contraction was greater transverse abdominis than EO. CONCLUSION: I considered it could lead to improvement of activity of daily life by applying intervention for recovery of motor control of TrA for the elderly in clinical practice.
