Aesthetic Characteristics of Grotesque Images in fashion - Focused on the Postmodern Grotesque - (패션에 표현된 그로테스크 이미지의 미적 특성에 관한 연구 - 포스트모던 그로테스크를 중점으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the aesthetic characteristics of grotesque images in fashion specially focused on the postmodern grotesque with the relationship between body and fashion. The results are as follows: The postmodern grotesque fashion images in the years of 1990-2000 can be analyzed as trans-stylistic, trans-boundaries which have been set by the modem western white elite men group. The postmodern grotesque fashion images in the years of 1990-2000 can be categorized as 1) unclear boundaries between genders: body and dress; human being and non-human being; life and death; wholeness and fragmentation; clear body and abject body. 2) violence to the body: body mutation by simplification, exaggeration; body injury.

  • In this study, it can be identified that drawing style of cartoon and fashion illustration are mutually linked and interchanged. The common background of drawing style between cartoon and fashion illustration, is as follows; 1. A means of image communication through mass communication 2. Similarities as visual signs 3. The borderless of painting, illustration and cartoon. 4. Usage of common drawing expressions such as deformation, distortion, exaggeration, metaphor, metonymy. Drawing style interchanging between cartoon and fashion illustration, is as follows; 1. Similar to figure and face are contemporary style, similar figure, Anime style and humourous style. 2. Similar to the way of express is focusing on the line, simplification, mixed computer graphics with hand drawing, artistic expression, the way of multimedia.

  • This study is on the esthetic characteristics of Tuxedo-Look in the modern women fashion from 1990s to the present. It could contribute to understand the aspects and the sense of beauty of the modern fashion. This study is performed by reviewing the precedent studies, related literature and deploying fashion portfolios, domestic and international fashion magazines for the exploratory study. The results of the study are the following. First, Tuxedo-Look expresses the androgenous image which weakens the superficial message of masculinity or femininity and produces the unified image of men and women. Tuxedo-Look, a symbolic male dress item, is brought in the women clothes and it is recreated by design modification, new wearing style, and producing effects. Second, Tuxedo-Look emphasizes femininity by using a exposure and body line stressed design and matching the women dress items with various materials and colors or tuxedo. Third, Tuxedo-Look suggests a dismantling point of view such as exaggeration, distortion, secession, and breaking from the convention. Tuxedo-Look expresses uncertain value by breaking up the symbolic valueby coordinating with casual items and denies formal construct of tuxedo such as perfect balance, symmetrical silhouette, formality, totality.

Fashion Display by Automatism Techniques of Surrealism Paintings (초현실주의 회화의 Automatism 기법을 이용한 패션디스플레이)

  • The surrealism for the revelation of the unconscious realms shares the inner world of mentality with modern fashion display for the visual expression of sensation each other. The analysis of the influence which automatism technique of surrealism exerts on fashion display showed as follows : 1) The automatism technique elevated the dramatic effect of the sales room by scraping the perspective, or the principle of visual arts. 2) It maximized the effect of subject of the display by coinciding surrealism with realism. 3) The technique which distorts the things heralded the strong message to customers by letting them keep away from the fixed idea. 4) Humorous expression of display brought about the effect of sales stimulation by giving astonishment, shock and exaggeration. 5) Expression of surrealism and realism caused customers to feel shock, illusion, fantasy. 6) The automatism technique expressed the high-tech image, and free expression by revealing the diversity of subject. 7) Display hinted from nature satisfied the mental desire of the human beings to be assimilated with nature. The formative characteristic presented the new possibility of combination of display with arts through the avant-garde sensation. Sale's room, or the marketing space was to be sublimated to three dimensional art space, which enhanced the image of sale's room, furthermore meeting the demand of moderner's lifestyle.

A Study on the Postfeminism about the Medieval Warrior Image in Contemporary Women's Fashion (현대 여성 패션에 나타난 중세 전사 이미지의 포스트페미니즘 경향에 관한 연구)

  • The earlier notion of feminism regarding gender equality was changed into that of Postfeminism because of gender differences. The idea of Postfeminism has been present since the 1980s but has been influenced by modern culture theories such as Postmodernism, Poststructuralism, Theory of Power and Discourse and Psychoanalysis. Various features of Postfeminism are found in the medieval warrior images of contemporary fashion. Warrior costumes were men's exclusive property in the medieval ages, but as it is introduced as women's wear in the 21st century, it shows us new fashion images which are constructed by gender deconstruction, differences and pastiche. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to examine a key characteristic of Postfeminism fashion. An article described the historical costumes of medieval warriors and refocused on the development processes of feminism and then conducted an analysis on formative characteristics and Postfeminism tendencies in contemporary women's wear from 2000 to 2011. The results were that materials such as metallic and flexible materials, monotonic and red colors and detailed patterns of armor were used to display forms of exaggeration and restraint. These elements fully and correctly expressed the image of a medieval warrior woman in contemporary fashion. Postfeminism fashion is constructed with feminine power, gendered identity, sensual elegance and a postmodern body. Postfeminism is the contemporary cultural icon and is continuously influencing modern fashion design in the 21st century in a positive and powerful way.

  • Due to the rapid changes occurring in many aspects of contemporary society, the need for a means to actively combat widespread feelings of emptiness and alienation among the public, while satisfying its visual pleasure, is increasing. Thus the need for humorous elements which bring freedom to the human psyche is urgently requested. Of course, the field of fashion cannot be left out in this trend, and humor image design is a good example of this. Humor image in fashion endeavors to release the tension accumulated in the modern world, while trying to find a way to recover the original pureness of mankind. Another aspect currently important is computers. The creation of images in modern visual art relies a lot upon computers. Traditional visual processes such as painting, photography and video are now merged within digital technology. and are now quite symbiotic to each other. With the development of computers came computer art. which uses all applicable functions of a computer to create art. Any artistic action which uses a computer in any stage of its creation can be called computer art. The common factor in humor and computer art in modern fashion can be classified as follows : repetition, deformation and distortion. exaggeration and abridgement. juxtaposition. and Tromp l'oeil. This study has placed its objective on the fusion of humor image fashion and computer art, by manufacturing a work with humor and computers, two important aspects of modern culture. Expanding the field of fashion design while promoting creativity In fashion by finding a verging point between art and science is also necessary. I have designed and made five costumes using the above cited techniques in computer humor images, on a theoretical basis.

  • With the advent of new media era we are living in the world of motion picture image is not an exaggeration. With the development of the mass media with images and moments that passed the day feeling like part of it is communication. In this era a sensual and shapeable image more than the logical and realistic thinking may be passed. In the act of seeing a moving image, prior to linguistic and conceptual meaning, color and screen configuration delivery and formative element in the change they produce is first recognized. Particular kind of video animation having the narrative structure, this territory effect greatly. the film even more significant effect on the area and linking the image of the scene transitions in the scheme also features a simple means of natural communication functions are being expanded. These transitional effects provide visual pleasure from a simple transition traditional methods. And In terms of narrative functions performed to help a narrative flow of availability, visual representation should continue.

Aesthetic Characteristic Study on Sportswear Uniform - Concentrating on Sportswear Uniform Applying Ensign Image -

  • International exchange gets active in nations with the increase of Internet use and heading toward digital age. Thus the communication conveying image of nations effectively plays an important role in an international society. Sports events are regarded as important international exchange events and good opportunities for public relations of one's own country and taken as tools of planting good images in other nations. This study surveyed the concept and history of uniform through the documents and previous studies in order to find the aesthetic characteristics of sportswear uniform applying the image of national ensign and investigates the origin and start time in Korea of selected 6 sports items. As a result of finding the expression way of ensign image and drawing the aesthetic characteristics by analyzing the use and variation of ensign colors, the use of colors other than ensign and reflection of ensign form in collected 60 sports uniforms, this study could draw the symbolical beauty, beauty of variation and beauty of brevity. First, symbolical beauty is the aesthetic characteristics expressing uniforms by using the pattern ensign symbolizes and ensign colors themselves or enlarging a part of ensign. Second, beauty of variation is the aesthetic characteristics creating geometrical new patterns in uniform through the distortion and exaggeration of ensign shape, or transforming the colors themselves of ensign. Third, beauty of brevity is the aesthetic characteristics using other colors only as decorative factor while applying the main colors of ensign to the most part of uniform, or unifying the uniforms with only one color of ensign. As a result of survey, the proportion of the symbolical beauty was highest in summer season and beauty of brevity and beauty of variation followed and the proportion of beauty of variation was highest and the symbolical beauty and beauty of brevity followed after that in winter season. This study found the way of expressing image of one's own country in sports uniform through this article, expecting the exact recognition on sports uniform and the diversity of sports uniform design in which the images of the nation are expressed more variously.

  • Since the advent of digital games with hardware development a key component of the game characters are changed to retard the rate at which types of users based on their favorite theory of human proportion. Many popular to gamers in the game according to the change in the retard rate in a unique image of the character. Studies on the head and body proportion are thought that up to now been insufficient. The purpose of this study is to examine a fundamental human proportion that has importance as a molding factor in the game character development, it investigated the characteristics of the game character, and classifying the retard rate of the game character, through the research method of analyzing the results, into the retard rate look for and investigate studying the effect on future game images. Five types of game characters that make up the analysis were analyzed with a unique image, and the more specialized users prefer retard rate, the figurative exaggeration to retard rate than the actual main body. Utilizing a bit exaggerated the difficulties of the character looks relatively small proportion character in the graphic wallpaper increased visibility. The proportion of a game character through the study is considered as a very important factor as the game image in the game development.

A study on the Significance of Hand Image in Animation (애니메이션 텍스트와 이미지로써 손의 의미작용에 관한 연구)

  • This paper examines the expression of hand appeared in animation. The hand changed its role from the status of the traditional representation to the enlarged meaning; the hand image has shown the individual consciousness and the social reality that has been reflected to our society. On the basis of clarify these concern, the hand appeared in animation gives a new communication and another way to express reality. Futhermore, the hand is no longer an image with realistic representation which generated a form of the consciousness of human being based on the reflection of its own self-identify through the exaggeration and transformation. This means that the hand as a whole is represented by naming one of its parts or vice versa. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper to study the effect and signification process which a synecdoche creates on the work of animation. In conclusion, the expression of hand as new interpretation appeared in animation adapts itself to changing the perspective on animation.
