  • Recently, the application of non-steel materials in ships and offshore plants is increasing because of the development of various nonlinear materials and the improvement of performance. Especially, hyper-elastic materials, which have a nonlinear stress-strain relationship, are used mainly in marine plant structures or ships where impact relaxation, vibration suppression, and elasticity are required, while elasticity must be maintained, even under high strain conditions. In order to simulate and evaluate the behavior of the hyperelastic material, it is very important to select an appropriate material model according to the strain of the material. This study focused on the selection of material models for hyperelastic materials, such as rubber used in the marine and offshore fields. Tension and compression tests and finite element simulations were conducted to compare the accuracy of the nonlinear material models due to variations in the stretch ratio of hyper-elastic material. Material coefficients of nonlinear material models are determined based on the curve fitting of experimental data. The results of this study can be used to improve the reliability of nonlinear material models according to stretch ratio variation.

  • This paper investigated the strength and stiffness of composite truss unit structures. The model used is a core-filled model combining the Kagome model and the cube truss model. The material properties used for the analysis are 304 stainless steel with elastic modulus of 193 GPa and yield stress of 215 MPa. The theoretical equation is derived from the relative elasticity relation of Gibson - Ashby ratio, the analysis was performed using Deform 3D, a commercial tool. In conclusion, the relative elasticity for this unit model correlates with 1.25 times the relative density and constant coefficient, elasticity is inversely proportional to pore size. The relative compressive strength has a correlation with relative density of 1.25 times. Proof of this is a real experiment, the derived theoretical relationship should further consider mechanical behavior such as bending and buckling. In the future, it is hoped that the research on the elasticity and the stress according to the structure of the three-dimensional space will be continued.

  • The aim of the current study was to predict shape recovery behavior of Ni-Ti shape memory alloy (SMA) wire after loading-unloading and after wire drawing. The superelasticity of SMA was analyzed by a hyper-elastic model for the Mullins effect using ABAQUS. Firstly, tensile tests and loading-unloading tests of the Ni-Ti SMA wire with a diameter 1.0 mm were performed using an MTS servo-hydraulic tester. The parameters for the Mullins effect were computed by ABAQUS based on curve-fitting of the loading-unloading test data. The proposed FE-model predicted the shape recovery of Ni-Ti SMA after wire drawing. Finally, the effectiveness of the model was verified by drawing experiments. The wire drawing experiments using the Ni-Ti SMA were conducted on a drawing machine(1ton, 50mm/s). In order to evaluate the shape recovery of Ni-Ti SMA, the drawn wires are annealed for 30min at $450^{\circ}C$.

  • Seals are usually made from elastomer, a kind of rubber, and it has the non-linearity and hyper-elasticity. U-type seals are used to prevent the leakage of internal fluid sealed in hydraulic actuator because they have more excellent performance than O-rings or rectangular seals. As a core part of hydraulic actuator, U-type seal gives much effect on performance and reliability of actuator. This study considers an NBR U-type seal under high pressure of a hydraulic actuator, and provides its deformation, stress-strain characteristic and contact force using the non-linear finite element analysis. Analysis results are compared with the experimental ones performed by the self-developed testing equipment. Verification result shows that this study presents a good application process for the effective design of U-type seals under high operation pressure.

  • Rubber seat is extensively used to reduce the vibration of machine or structure. Over the years an enormous effort has been put into developing procedures to provide properties of rubber material for design function. However, there are still a lot of difficulties to analyze static characteristics of rubber components with hyper elasticity and nonlinear large deformation. In this paper material property is obtained by strain-stress curve using a tension test. Mooney-Rivlin Coefficients are gotten by fitting strain-stress curve. The visco-elastic characteristics of refrigerator rubber mount is determined by using ANSYS. And to minimize the rubber stiffness, the rubber seat shape optimization is performed.

  • The theory of nonlinear elastic wave propagation is important in multiple scientific and engineering fields. In this study, we present a comprehensive examination of nonlinear elastic wave profiles through a contemporary approach of successive approximation. This research is related to nonlinear elastic wave models along different types of nonlinearities. Murnaghan potential is used due to the assumption of the hyper-elastic materials. We explore the complication of the governing equations and go through the behaviors of nonlinear waves in one dimension. The comparative aspect of our study is a distinctive feature, as we evaluate and contrast the results obtained using successive approximation along different nonlinearities. Additionally, we present graphical representations of our findings, enhancing the visual comprehension of the wave profiles and their evolution. This study contributes to the nonlinear elastic wave analysis and comparison.

  • Several typical hyper-elastic constitutive models that encompass both conventional and advanced ones were investigated for the application of instability problems, including the biaxial tension of a rubber patch and inflation of spherical or cylindrical balloons. The material models included the neo-Hookean model, Mooney-Rivlin model, Gent model, Arruda-Boyce model, Fung model, and Pucci-Saccomandi model. Analyses can be done using membrane equations with particular strain energy density functions. Among the typical strain energy density functions, Kearsley's bifurcation for the Treloar's patch occurs only with the Mooney-Rivlin model. The inflation equation is so generalized that a spherical balloon and tube balloons can be taken into account. From the analyses, the critical material parameters and limit points were identified for material models in terms of the non-dimensional pressure and inflation volume ratio. The bifurcation was then identified and found for each material model of a balloon. When the finite element method was used for the structural instability problems of rubber-like materials, some careful treatments required could be suggested. Overall, care must be taken not only with the analysis technique, but also in selecting constitutive models, particularly the instabilities.

  • Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is a process extruding and stacking materials. PLA materials are one of the most frequently used materials for FFF method of 3D printing. Polylactic acid (PLA)-based materials are among the most widely used materials for FFF-based three-dimensional (3D) printing. PLA is an eco-friendly material made using starch extracted from corn, as opposed to plastic made using conventional petroleum resin; PLA-based materials are used in various fields, such as packaging, aerospace, and medicines. However, it is important to analyze the mechanical properties of theses materials, such as elastic strength, before using them as structural materials. In this study, the reliability of PLA-based materials is assessed through an analysis of the changes in the linear elasticity of these materials under thermal degradation by applying a hyperelastic analytical model.

  • The engine mount of a car subjected to a pre-load related to the weight of the engine, and acts to insulate the vibration coming from the engine by moving on large or small displacement depending on the driving condition of the car. The vibration insulation of the engine mount is an effect obtained by dissipating the mechanical energy into heat by the viscosity characteristic of the rubber and the microscopic behavior of the additive carbon black. Therefore, dynamic stiffness from the intrinsic properties of rubber filled with carbon black at the design stage is an important design consideration. In this paper, we introduced a hyper-elastic, visco-elastic and elasto-plastic model to predict the dynamic characteristics of rubber, and developed a fitting program to determine the material model parameters using MATLAB. The dynamic characteristics analysis of the rubber insulator of the ACTIVE MOUNT was carried out by using MSC.MARC nonlinear structural analysis software, which provides the dynamic characteristics material model. The analysis results were compared with the dynamic characteristics test results of the rubber insulator, which is one of the active mount components, and the analysis results were confirmed to be valid.
