To extract hydrologic information more easily , the pre-processor for hydrologic model using Geographic Information System was developed . This model was applied to the Balan-reservoir watershed which is located at the southwest of Suwon. For estimation SCS curve number, landuse map and hydrologic soil group map were collected from digital map and reconnaissance soil map respectively. The estimated curve number from the GIS technique was 73.

This study introduced a Bayesian based frequency analysis in which the statistical trend seasonal analysis for hydrologic extreme series is incorporated. The proposed model employed Gumbel and GEV extreme distribution to characterize extreme events and a fully coupled bayesian frequency model was finally utilized to estimate design rainfalls in Seoul. Posterior distributions of the model parameters in both trend and seasonal analysis were updated through Markov Chain Monte Carlo Simulation mainly utilizing Gibbs sampler. This study proposed a way to make use of nonstationary frequency model for dynamic risk analysis, and showed an increase of hydrologic risk with time varying probability density functions. In addition, full annual cycle of the design rainfall through seasonal model could be applied to annual control such as dam operation, flood control, irrigation water management, and so on. The proposed study showed advantage in assessing statistical significance of parameters associated with trend analysis through statistical inference utilizing derived posterior distributions.
To investigate groundwater variation characteristics in the Hancheon watershed, Jeju Island, an integrated hydrologic component analysis was carried out. For this purpose, SWAT-MODFLOW which is an integrated surface-groundwater model was applied to the watershed for continuous watershed hydrologic analysis as well as groundwater modeling. First, ephemeral stream characteristics of Hancheon watershed can be clearly simulated which is unlikely to be shown by a general watershed hydrologic model. Second, the temporally varied groundwater recharge can be properly obtained from SWAT and then spatially distributed groundwater recharge can be made by MODFLOW. Finally, the groundwater level variation was simulated with distributed groundwater pumping data. Since accurate recharge as well as abstraction can be reflected into the groundwater modeling, more realistic hydrologic component analysis and groundwater modeling could be possible.
Hydrologic models can be classified into two types: those for understanding physical processes and those for predicting hydrologic quantities. This study deals with how to use the model to predict today's stream flow based on the system's knowledge of yesterday's state and the model parameters. In this regard, for the model to generate accurate predictions, the uncertainty of the parameters and appropriate estimates of the state variables are required. In this study, a relatively simple hydrologic partitioning model is proposed that can explicitly implement the hydrologic partitioning process, and the posterior distribution of the parameters of the proposed model is estimated using the Markov chain Monte Carlo approach. Further, the application method of the ensemble Kalman filter is proposed for updating the normalized soil moisture, which is the state variable of the model, by linking the information on the posterior distribution of the parameters and by assimilating the observed steam flow data. The stochastically and recursively estimated stream flows using the data assimilation technique revealed better representation of the observed data than the stream flows predicted using the deterministic model. Therefore, the ensemble Kalman filter in conjunction with the Markov chain Monte Carlo approach could be a reliable and effective method for forecasting daily stream flow, and it could also be a suitable method for routinely updating and monitoring the watershed-averaged soil moisture.
Calibrating a conceptual hydrologic model necessitates selection of a calibration period that produces the most reliable prediction. This often must be chosen randomly, however, since there is no objective guidance. Observation plays the most important role in the calibration or uncertainty evaluation of hydrologic models, in which the key factors are the length of the data and the hydro-climate conditions in which they were collected. In this study, we investigated the effect of the calibration period selected on the predictive performance and uncertainty of a model. After classifying the inflows of the Hapcheon Dam from 1991 to 2019 into four hydro-climate conditions (dry, wet, normal, and mixed), a conceptual hydrologic partitioning model was calibrated using data from the same hydro-climate condition. Then, predictive performance and post-parameter statistics were analyzed during the verification period under various hydro-climate conditions. The results of the study were as follows: 1) Hydro-climate conditions during the calibration period have a significant effect on model performance and uncertainty, 2) calibration of a hydrologic model using data in dry hydro-climate conditions is most advantageous in securing model performance for arbitrary hydro-climate conditions, and 3) the dry calibration can lead to more reliable model results.
The effect of selecting hydrologic item for calculating objective function on calibration of stream flow was evaluated by Hydrologic Simulation Porgram-Fortran (HSPF) linked with Model Independent Parameter Optimizer (PEST). Daily and monthly stream flow and flow duration were used to calculate objective function. Automated calibration focused on monthly stream was proper to analyze seasonal or yearly water budget but not proper to predict daily stream flow or percent chance flow exceeded. Calibration result focused on flow duration is proper to predict precent chance flow exceeded but not proper to analyze water budget or predict peak flow. These results indicate that hydrologic item calculated for objective function on calibration procedure could influence calibration results and watershed modeler should select carefully hydrologic item for the purpose of model application. Current, the criteria of stream flow of Korean TMDL is generated based on percent chance flow exceeded, so flow duration should be included to calculate objective function on calibration procedure for the estimation of criteria of stream flow using hydrologic model.

In this study, long term semi distributed hydrologic model SWAT-K(Korea) is applied to the Seolma-Cheon watershed to analyze the hydrological components. Seolma-Cheon watershed has been operated as the test watershed of Korea Institute of Construction Technology for 13 years. Therefore it has an enough hydrologic data to analyze the hydrologic characteristics of small watershed. Especially, for the proper runoff analysis of steep watershed, calibration is performed reflecting the regression equation of slope and slope length. The simulated discharge shows good agreement with the observed one and the simulated evapotranspiration and groundwater discharge also show satisfactory results. Finally we presents the ratio of major hydrologic components for 3 years with those obsrved ones. This study is the basic research for future analyses such as relationship between hydrologic components and vegetation, watershed sediment nonpoint sources discharge etc.
The problems of hydrologic similarity among river basins was analyzed by a geomorphologic response model using Hortons*s ordering scheme. The Nash model was used for deriving the geomorphologic response function, and for the optimization of the responsefunction, imcomplete gamma function andRosso*s regression equation were used. The application of this method was tested on some observed flood data of Pyungchang river basin and Wi Stream basin and Bocheong stream, and predictions of hydrologic response were compared with that of the Moment method. The results show that the proposed model and dimensionless instantaneous unit hydrograph can be used for the runoff analysis of an ungauged basin and the analysis of hydrologic similarity.

In this study a conceptual soil water model is proposed to simulate water balance at catchment scale. The model is based on the sequential separation of daily precipitation into surface runoff, wetting, vaporization, and percolation. The proposed model is calibrated by using three observation sets: empirically estimated annual vaporization, monthly wetting estimated by NRCS-CN method, and both of them. The model performance is evaluated to understand which hydrologic components for calibrating the model are needed. It is shown that both of annual vaporization and monthly wetting are indispensable hydrologic components to simulate reasonably precipitation partitioning.

This study refers to the development of a hydrologic model simulating daily inflow and release rates for irrigation reservoirs. A daily - based model is needed for adequate operation of an irrigation reservoir sufficing the water demand for paddy fields which is closely related to meteorological conditions. Inflow rates to a reservoir need to be accurately described, which may be simulated using a hydrologic model from daily rainfall data. And the objective of this paper is to develop, test, and apply a hydrologic model for daily runoff simmulation. A well - known tank model was selected and modified to simulate daily inflow rates. The model parameters were calibrated using observed runoff data from twelve watersheds, Relationships between the parameters and the watershed characteristics were derived by a multiple regression analysis. The simulation results were in agreement with the data. The inflow model was found to simulate low flow conditions more accurately than high flow conditions, which may be adequate for water resources utilization.
