  • This paper presents the optimization technique to select the design parameters of a hydraulic servo valve using the genetic algorithm. The dynamic performance is governed by the design parameters of the servo valve and they may be select by repeated number of simulations such that the desired performance is obtained. Using the genetic algorithm to optimize the design parameters, effective method is suggested. This method can be used for the design of the hydraulic systems as well as the servo valve.

  • Geomechanics parameters are critical to numerical simulation, stability analysis, design and construction of geotechnical engineering. Due to the limitations of laboratory and in situ experiments, back analysis is widely used in geomechancis and geotechnical engineering. In this study, a hybrid back analysis method, that coupling numerical simulation, response surface (RS) and relevance vector machine (RVM), was proposed and applied to identify geomechanics parameters from hydraulic fracturing. RVM was adapted to approximate complex functional relationships between geomechanics parameters and borehole pressure through coupling with response surface method and numerical method. Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm was used to search the geomechanics parameters as optimal method in back analysis. The proposed method was verified by a numerical example. Based on the geomechanics parameters identified by hybrid back analysis, the computed borehole pressure agreed closely with the monitored borehole pressure. It showed that RVM presented well the relationship between geomechanics parameters and borehole pressure, and the proposed method can characterized the geomechanics parameters reasonably. Further, the parameters of hybrid back analysis were analyzed and discussed. It showed that the hybrid back analysis is feasible, effective, robust and has a good global searching performance. The proposed method provides a significant way to identify geomechanics parameters from hydraulic fracturing.

  • A previous study demonstrated that the two-row fuel assembly has much more favorable neutron-physical and thermal-hydraulic behavior than the conventional one-row fuel assemblies. Based on the newly developed two-row fuel assembly, an SCWR core is proposed and analyzed. The performance of the proposed core is investigated with 3-D coupled neutron-physical and thermal-hydraulic calculations. During the coupling procedure, the thermal-hydraulic behavior is analyzed using a sub-channel analysis code and the neutron-physical performance is computed with a 3-D diffusion code. This paper presents the main results achieved thus far related to the distribution of some neutronic and thermal-hydraulic parameters. It shows that with adjustment of the coolant and moderator mass flow in different assemblies, promising neutron-physical and thermal-hydraulic behavior of the SCWR core is achieved. A sensitivity study of the heat transfer correlation is also performed. Since the pin power in fuel assemblies can be non-uniform, a sub-channel analysis is necessary in order to investigate the detailed distribution of thermal-hydraulic parameters in the hottest fuel assembly. The sub-channel analysis is performed based on the bundle averaged parameters obtained with the core analysis. With the sub-channel analysis approach, more precise evaluation of the hot channel factor and maximum cladding surface temperature can be achieved. The difference in the results obtained with both the sub-channel analysis and the fuel assembly homogenized method confirms the importance of the sub-channel analysis.

  • In this study the estimation method for stream hydraulic characteristics which is served as the input data set for running QualKo water quality model is investigated. The conventional approach for estimating such hydraulic parameters is to use the data set from the last cross section in each reach. However, it is shown that in order to represent correctly flow velocity profiles or the travel time in streams, hydraulic parameters of QualKo model should be estimated with all cross section data set within the corresponding reach. In addition, the unsuitable estimation of hydraulic parameters at some reaches has influence on the water quality predictions at the corresponding reaches, and the errors of water quality predictions are propagated toward the downstream without any error attenuation.

  • This study presents a genetic algorithm-based method for optimizing control parameters in fluid power systems. Genetic algorithms are general-purpose optimization methods based on natural evolution and genetics. A genetic algorithm seeks control parameters maximizing a measure that evaluates system performance. Five control gains of the PID-PD cascade controller fr an electrohydraulic speed control system with a variable displacement hydraulic motor are optimized using a genetic algorithm in the experiment. Optimized gains are confirmed by inspecting the fitness distribution which represents system performance in gain spaces. It is shown that optimization of the five gains by manual tuning should be a task of great difficulty and that a genetic algorithm is an efficient scheme giving economy of time and in labor in optimizing control parameters of fluid power systems.

  • The hydraulic fuse, which responds to the suddenly increased flow on rupture of a line and shuts off the fluid flow, would prevent large spillage of liquid. The quick-acting hydraulic fuse, which is mainly composed of a poppet, a seat, and a spring, must be designed to minimize the leaked flow and to prevent high collision speed between the poppet and seat during fuse operation on a line rupture. The optimal design parameters of a quick-acting hydraulic fuse were searched using the genetic algorithm and the complex method that are kinds of constrained direct search methods. The dynamic behavior of a quick-acting hydraulic fuse was researched using computer simulations that applied the obtained optimal design parameters.

  • This paper presents a sensitivity analysis to obtain best fit of hydraulic parameters of leaky fractal aquifer. The sensitivity analysis uses the least squares method. The hydraulic parameters (generalized transmissivity and generalized storage coefficient) can be easily determined by the sensitivity analysis for various flow dimensions and different values of the leakage factor. Furthermore, the sensitivity analysis was applied to variable-rate pump tast at several abstraction wells, A computer program was developed to evaluate the hydraulic parameters by the sensitivity analysis.

  • To provide tile information ell severe accident progression is very important for advanced or new type of nuclear power plant (NPP) design. A parametric study, therefore was performed to investigate the effect of thermal hydraulic design parameters ell severe accident progression of pressurized water reactors (PWRs), Nine parameters, which are considered important in NPP design or severe accident progression, were selected among the various thermal hydraulic design parameters. The backpropagation neural network (BPN) was used to determine parameters, which might more strongly affect the severe accident progression, among mile parameters. For training. different input patterns were generated by the latin hypercube sampling (LHS) technique and then different target patterns that contain core uncovery time and vessel failure time were obtained for Young Gwang Nuclear (YGN) Units 3&4 using modular accident analysis program (MAAP) 3.0B code. Three different severe accident scenarios, such as two loss of coolant accidents (LOCAs) and station blackout(SBO), were considered in this analysis. Results indicated that design parameters related to refueling water storage tank (RWST), accumulator and steam generator (S/G) have more dominant effects on the progression of severe accidents investigated, compared to tile other six parameters.

  • This paper presents design of the quantitative feedback control system of the three axes hydraulic road simulator with respect to the dummy wheel for uncertain multiple input-output(MIMO) feedback systems. This simulator has the uncertain parameters such as fluid compressibility, fluid leakage, electrical servo components and nonlinear mechanical connections. This works have reproduced the random input signal to implement the real road vibration's data in the lab. The replaced $m^2$ MISO equivalent control systems satisfied the design specifications of the original $m^*m$ MIMO control system and developed the mathematical method using quantitative feedback theory based on schauder's fixed point theorem. This control system illustrates a tracking performance of the closed-loop controller with low order transfer function G(s) and pre-filter F(s) having the minimum bandwidth for parameters of uncertain plant. The efficacy of the designed controller is verified through the dynamic simulation with combined hydraulic model and Adams simulator model. The Matlab simulation results to connect with Adams simulator model show that the proposed control technique works well under uncertain hydraulic plant system. The designed control system has satisfied robust performance with stability bounds, tracking bounds and disturbance. The Hydraulic road simulator consists of the specimen, hydraulic pump, servo valve, hydraulic actuator and its control equipments
