  • This study was to examine the factors effecting the role conflicts of dual-earner couples. The sample consisted of 168 husbands and wives living in Pusan. The findings of this study were as follows; 1. Husbands' role conflicts were negatively related to cohesion wives' role conflicts were negatively related to adaptability. 2. Husbands' role conflicts were significantly affected by spouses' support time spent at work cohesion and the youngest child age. 3. Wives' role conflicts were significantly affected by spouses' support adaptability time spent at work and the degree of husbands' support, adaptability time spent at work and the degree of husbands' housework participation.

  • This study explored at marital conflict in multicultural families, a type of families formed through international marriages, from husbands perspectives. For the purpose of this study, in-depth interviews were used with husbands in multicultural families to ask about marital conflict, and then, conducted a qualitative case analysis. In summary, results of this study are as follows; First, among the decisive events that husbands in multicultural families often experienced in marital conflict with their wives were disrespect toward husbands and parents-in-law, husbands with a low level of trust, feelings of pressure due to financial support for wives' families and children and lack of practical sense about marriage. Second, development of marital conflict that husbands often experienced included aggravated cultural conflict between a couple and between members of the family, difficulty in managing blame and anger, signs of separation or divorce and wives leaving home and limitations in conversation and communication. Third, as to how husbands tried to deal with marital conflict, they tried to be patient and comfort wives, engage in economic activities together, find something that they could focus on, turn to religion or gatherings, use service from government organizations, have trust and develop rules and limit the range of their wives activities.

한일양국 전일제 맞벌이 부부의 수입노동시간 분석 (A Comparative Study of Working Hours between Korean and Japanese Full-Time Working Couples)

  • The purpose of this study is to compared the length of working hours and its effects on family life for Korean and Japanese full-time working couples. For this study, the survey used structured questionnaires and time diaries(one weekday and holiday), and the data were collected in the fall of 1995. A subsample of full-time working couples, 82 couples from Seoul and 79 couples from Tokyo, was used for the purpose of this study. The major findings are as follows; 1) On average, the weekday working hours of Korean husbands were longer than Japanese husbands(11 hours 31 minute, 10 hours 52 minutes a day, respectively). Wives in both countries worked almost identical lengths of time (9 hours 2 minutes in Korea and 8 hours 42 minutes in Japan). Working hours of husbands were longer than those of wives in both countries. Husbands' overtime. Almost (90%) of our Korea sample worked 6 days or 5 1/2 days per week, however the majority (69%) of our Japanese sample worked only 5 days per eek. 2) More Korean husbands and wives reported that their family life was constrained by wives working hours than their Japanese counterparts did. 3) All wives in both countries reported that the husbands long working hours has effects on quality family time. Korean wives perceived that their working hours had effects on time spent on child care, however Japanese wives perceived that their working hours affected their personal time and housework time. Korean husbands agreed with their wives working hours negatively affected their personal leisure time. Japanese husbands reported that their working hours negatively affected their sleeping time.

미맥 농가부부의 생활시간구조 (The Rice and Barley Farm Couples' Time Use Patterns)

  • The purposes of this study are to analyze the time use patterns of rice and barley for farm couples. The data used for this study were collected from farm households during the farming seasons (17th to 30th June) and the off-farming seasons (28th November to 11th December) of 2005, using a time diary. The sample for this study consisted of 118 couples, whose principal crops were rice and barley, living in rural area in eight provinces. SPSS Win 12.0 was utilized to analyze the data. The statistical methods used were frequency, percentage and paired t-test. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, the personal care time of wives was shorter than that of husbands, regardless of the fanning period, with the couples showing more personal care time during the off-farming season than during the farming season. Secondly, the total work(paid work plus housework) time of wives was longer than that of husbands during both the farming season and the off-farming season, showing that the labor burden of wives was bigger than that of husbands. Compared to the farming season, the total work time for both husbands and wives was shorter during the off-farming season, due to reduced farm work time, but the housework time increased for both husbands and wives. Thirdly, the leisure time of husbands was longer than that of wives during both seasons. The leisure time increased for both husbands and wives during the off-farming season, but the portion of the increase was bigger for husbands than for wives.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of work-family conciliation strategies on work-family conflict and enrichment in dual-earner couples who live in Daegu with children. The subjects of this study were 176 dual-earner couples, who have under 16 youngest children and work over 15 hours each week. The research tool was questionnaires. For data analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach ${\alpha}$, paired t-test and multiple regression were performed. The main results of this study were as following. First, there were significant differences in management and planning skill strategy, work-family conflict and enrichment according to gender. Second, positive attitudes strategy toward multiple responsibilities, wives use, had an influence on work${\rightarrow}$family conflict in wives. Also, partner coping, management and planning skill, and positive attitudes strategy, wives use, and management and planning skill strategy, husbands use, had an influence on family${\rightarrow}$work conflict in wives. And management and planning skill and professional adjustment strategy, husbands use, had an influence on family${\rightarrow}$work conflict in husbands. work-family conciliation strategies had no influence on work${\rightarrow}$family conflict. Third, positive attitudes strategy toward multiple responsibilities, wives use, had an influence on work${\rightarrow}$family enrichment in wives. Also, partner coping strategy, wives use, and management and planning skill strategy, husbands use, had an influence on family${\rightarrow}$work enrichment in wives. And positive attitudes strategy toward multiple responsibilities, husbands use, had an influence on work${\rightarrow}$family enrichment in husbands. Also management and planning skill strategy, wives use, and partner coping, professional adjustment and management and planning skill strategy had an influence on family${\rightarrow}$work enrichment in husbands.

신세대와 중년기 부부의 노부모 부양에 따른 부담감 및 보상감 분석 (Caregiver Burden and Rewards in New Generation and Middle-aged Couples)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the caregiver burden and rewards in new generation and middle-aged couples. Data were collected from 207 new generation couples and 196 middle-aged couples who had either of older parents and lived in Seoul. Major findings are as fallows; 1. The burden were constituted with restriction of privacy physical burden strain psychological burden economic cost and guilt. The rewards were constituted with recognition pride maturity improving relationship and assistance of household and childcare. 2. The caregiver burden of new generation and middle-aged wives were hgiher than husbands. Hwever the caregiver rewards of new generation and middle-aged husbands were higher than wives. 3. The caregiver burden of middle-aged husbands were higher than new generation husbands bur there was no significant difference between new generation and middle-aged wives. 4. The caregiver rewards of middle-aged wives were higher than new generation wives but there was no significant difference between new generation and middle-aged husbands.

부부의 가계재무 관리행동과 재정만족도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Financial Management Behavior and Financial Satisfaction of Husbands and Wives)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the factors affecting financial management behavior and financial satisfaction of husbands and wives. The data were collected from 212 couples living in Pusan and Kyungnam region by the self-administered questionnaire. The major findings of this study were as follows: (1) the communication frequency of husbands and wives was an important factor affecting financial management behavior and financial satisfaction for them; (2) financial management behavior was an important variable affecting financial satisfaction for husbands and wives; and (3) financial satisfaction of husbands and wives were affected by monthly saying. From these findings, it is suggested that the financial management program focusing on the ways to increase communication among family members and to implement financial management effectively should be developed.

성역할태도가 부부의 결혼만족도에 미치는 영향 (The impact of gender role attitudes on marital satisfaction of husbands and wives)

  • Using 220 married couples this study examines the impact of gender role attitudes on marital satisfaction and factors related to gender role attitudes. The results indicated that while couples of egalitarian husbands and traditional wives scored the highest marital satisfaction couples of traditional husbands and egalitarian wives were least satisfied in their marriage. Egalitarian marriages in which both husband and wife were egalitarian and traditional marriages in which both husband and wife were traditional located in the middle. The matches of gender role attitudes than the cogruency in gender role attitudes between husband and wife more influenced couple's marital satisfaction, Wives in general tended to be more egalitarian than husbands. Socioeconomic factors such as age education duration of marriage and the number of children had significant effects on gender role attitudes of both husbands and wives The results imply the changing norm of couples' gender role orientat on today.

부부간 가사노동분담과 공평성 인지도가 결혼만족도에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of the Division of Household Labor in Couples and the Sense of Fairness on Marital Satisfaction)

  • This study investigated the pattern of division of household labor between married couples and the determining variables of the division of household work. In addition, this study examined the effect of the pattern of the division of household work and the sense of fairness on marital satisfaction. Two hundreds forty two married couples living near seoul were selected. Both wives and husbands reported their daily time-use pattern. According to the results, flexibility of husbands' work schedules hours of market work of husbands, husbands' sex role attitudes, and the presence of household assistant affected significantly on the extent of household work time. In addition, husbands' household work time had direct effects on marital satisfaction of couples. In wives' hours of household labor, the significant variables were wives' employment status, presence of younger children, total income, wives' sex role attitudes, and hours of household labor performed by housework assistant. In addition, wives' sense of fairness had impact significantly on marital satisfaction.

결혼 만족도 척도에 관한 연구 - Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale을 중심으로 (A Study on the Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale)

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the characteristics of the Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale(KMSS). KMSS was designed as a short and direct assessment of marital satisfaction. The scale consists of three items where respondents are directly asked how satisfied they are with their marriage, with their partner as a spouse, and with their relationship with their spouse. 1) Through item analysis, three items were significant discrimination for husbands and wives. 2) The KMSS consisted of 1 factor for husbands and wives. 3) Cronbach alpha estimates of internal consistency reliability of 93 for husband and of 89 for wives. 4) For wives, the item means between satifaction with their marriage and satisfaction with their relationsphip with their husbands were significantly different, even though the items were highly correlated. For husbands, three item means weren't significantly different. 5) The distribution of responses to the scale for husbands and wives departed si nificantly from normality in terms of skewness and kurtosis. 6) The scale was correlated, in expected directions, with the Marital Comparison Level Index (MCLI) and Marital Instability Index(MII), for husbands and wives. In conclusion, the scale offers promise for use in clinical evaluation and survey research where a brief but reliable measure of marital satisfaction is required.
