Case-based reasoning (CBR) method can make estimators understand the estimation process more clearly. Thus, CBR is widely used as a methodology for cost estimation. In CBR, the quality of case retrieval affects the relevance of retrieved cases and hence the overall quality of the reminding capability of CBR system. Thus, it is essential to retrieve relevant past cases for establishing a robust CBR system. Case retrieval needs the following tasks to obtain appropriate case(s); indexing, search, and matching (Aamodt and Plaza 1994). However, the previous CBR researches mostly deal with matching process that has limits such as accuracy and efficiency of case retrieval. In order to address this issue, this research presents a CBR cost model for building projects that has two-step retrieval process: decision tree and nearest neighbor methods. Specifically, the proposed cost model has indexing, search and matching modules. Features in the model are divided into shape-based and scale-based attributes. Based on these, decision tree is established for facilitating the search task and nearest neighbor method was utilized for matching task. In regard to applying nearest neighbor method, attribute weights are assigned using GA optimization and similarity is calculated using the principle of distance measuring. Thereafter, the proposed CBR cost model is developed using 174 cases and validated using 12 test cases.

This paper is made an analysis as to how much influence is affected to the residential satisfaction by information search and expectancy conformity/nonconformity. The above mentioned analysis results in that information search and expectancy conformity/nonconformity appear to be influential factors to explain the residential satisfaction after purchase. Especially, the more the expectancy of pre-purchase and the performance of post-purchase equal, the higher the residential satisfaction. In addition, even if a slight difference emerges in the domain of the residential satisfaction, it appears that the more information search is conducted, the higher the residential satisfaction and information from salesman or reference group affect on the expectancy conformity/nonconformity. When purchasing housing, to search more information shows that the expectancy of pre-purchase gets close to the performance of the post-purchase, that is to say, to the positive residential satisfaction.

This study was designed to search for the direction to develop housing service which assists the older people to live independently in their community and provides the systematization of community care. The subjects of the research include 533 older people between the age of 60 to 79 residing in Seoul and 84 welfare officials at a dong(in)-office and 67 social workers working at comprehensive social welfare institutions. The results were as follows: Both demanders and deliverers recognized that housing service for older people was necessary for community care, and, in particular, the deliverers had higher degree of necessity as people charged in welfare service. The most needed service was community alarm service which currently is proceeded partially for low-income and living-alone olders. It needed to expand the scope of the people to be served. It appeared that the need for inside safety measures rather than for housing space or structural problems. It requires less effort and cost for those who need simple repair, such as safety grips or slippery protection, and safety checks. Among financial support services, the need for tax benefits appeared the most necessary service for the older people. It suggested that more 'direct' financial support service is needed for the elderly people.

With the development of digital technology and the advent of the concept of well-being, kitchen will be worked as the center of housing and turn into multi-functional space. So a research is requested to consider the users' needs for kitchen based on their life characteristics. The purpose of this study is to find out housing lifestyles, and to search and analyze users' needs for kitchen planning according to their lifestyles. And then plans for kitchen design are suggested. The findings are as follows. (1) Housing lifestyles of users living in apartment are categorized into the type of network and trial & development, pursing the new environment and technology, the type of high quality and convenience, seeking the way to make housework easy and comfortable, the type of housework oriented and the type of unspecification. (2) The type of network and trial & development requests home automation, confrontation layout of counter-top, the type of high quality and convenience requests enlargement of kitchen space, the newest appliance and kitchen island, the type of housework oriented requests the efficiency of space utilization with a counter-top style table, and the type of unspecification asks space for study and office work. All of the types have needs for water use space, larger storing space and a Kimchi refrigerator.

The number of households in the country is expected to rise from 16,420,000 in 2007 to 19,870,000 in 2030, an increase of 21%. This is because while the population itself decreases due to a low birth rate, the number of households rapidly multiplies with the increase of nuclear family and single-person households. The ratio of single-person household is increasing every year at demographics data. The design that suits their needs, however, is not fully explored yet. The purpose of this study is to find out single-person household's lifestyles, and to search and analyze users' needs for spatial composition according to their lifestyles, and then, propose a single-person housing's plan and direction.

Currently, obtaining information about the housing studies through the internet web sites is one of the outstanding mediums. Those are of the housings, architecture, interior design, furniture products, hotels and its journals, etc., and out of all those informations are the highly expected value of use. But. it may causes the public users to experience a negative effect, because many of those informations provided on the internet web sites related to the housing studies/informations are not providing an equal quality of information. And measuring the quality is also not easy. This study focuses on the establishment of evaluation criterion for the housing information-related internet web sites. In such a vein, it proposes a clear model to evaluate the information qualities with the 43 questionnaires / examining items. To test the questionnaires/rating items, the analysis has been implemented which has shown the reciprocal effect between the 2 major factors. One major factor with 4 variables on the information searches are (1) the accuracy/reliability of contents and techniques, (2) the design of a picture and communication, (3) the readability and security, and (4) the security of private information, and the other factor with 3variables on the additional services are (1) the diversities of contents and ease of orderings, (2) the abilities of search and e-mail, and (3) the events and after services. This study/rating model will provide the users with a fundamental material in evaluating the quality of housing information on the internet web sites.

Optical aligning process to archive the maximum optical coupling is crucial in many optical device manufacturing line such as laser diode module. Due to the three-dimensional nature of housing module and the aligning process for laser diode coupler, large amount of the manufacturing time, typically ranging from tens of minutes to an hour has to be devoted to the aligning process alone. In this thesis, we propose a new optical aligning process that employee a two-pass algorithm: coarse-to-fine search. Coarse search is a kind of blind search that finds the candidate region where the maximum optical coupling might mostly occur, followed by a fine searching that finds the maximum within the candidate region. The algorithm has been tested on 50 samples of cam-type laser diode modules, and the experimental results are analyzed in terms of aligning time and coupling efficiency.

As society ages increasingly, maintaining an independent lifestyle at home becomes an important issue for older people. The elderly themselves demand an independent lifestyle despite their health status and living arrangements. The purpose of this study is to provide basic guidelines for the elderly housing through the analysis of seniors' housing behavior. The total of 438 residents take part in the questionnaire survey research through the quota sampling method grouped by age (60-64 group, 65-69 group, 70-74 group, over 75 group). The results are as follows. (1) Seniors' subjective physical and functional status is not differed one age group from the others, but it is differed by the sex. (2) Seniors spend more than three hours on watching TV. The male spend more time on information search, while the female on the house chores. (3) The older use the bedroom more than the younger. Living rooms are more frequently used among the young old and the residents live in the apartment houses. (4) More than half senior use a sofa in the living room, a table in the dining room, and a bed in the bedroom. The young old and the apartment residents use such furniture more than the other groups.
