  • As hotel industry lately recognize that food and drink industry produces more profits than hotel rooms, multi-various and scientific management policies are required along with the management of profitability. Particularly, as hotel services have become more alike due to the development of technology and sharing information, opportunities for differentiation have decreased. Human resource is a significant key for the hotel business as it could lead to a success or failure. It would be overwhelming for employees if they carry all the burdens on their shoulders to impress the customers and improve the service culture in this fast-changing society with different colors of human desire. Therefore, it is essential to focus on developing strategies of efficient organizational as well as human resource management, and the managerial leadership with capability of understanding the organizational structure should play the leading role, considering the specific characteristics of hotel business. The purposes of the study are transformational leadership and transactional leadership comparison analysis of hotel F&B to management strategy.

  • This study examines the relationships among the leadership of hotel managers, organizational culture, and business performance with an empirical analysis. The results of analyzing various factors are as follows. Leadership can be divided into 'democratic leadership' and 'authority leadership'. Organizational culture can also be divided into 'adhocracy culture', 'clan culture', 'hierarchy culture', and 'market culture' while business performance into 'nonfinancial performance' and 'financial performance'. After that, canonical correlation analyses between leadership and organizational culture, organizational culture and business performance, and leadership and business performance were conducted.

  • The purpose of this study is to show the optimal leadership model based on general manager management that is related to hotel employees, which may then be applied to ideal hotel management in Korea. The variables analyzed in this study are employee-management relations from the lowest ranking employee to the highest level of management, with communication and job understanding held common among the subjects. This study looks in detail at four main concepts. Firstly, the employees are encouraged to put forth their best efforts through the standardization of the requirements and regulations of the job and ensuring product suitability. Secondly, the cultivation of new hotel culture empowers the employees. The third point taken into account is the encouragement of employees to take pride in the work they do, which is done through a kind of reward system and salary. The final point considered is the empowerment of employees, which results in employee commitment to the job.

The Effects of Transformational Leadership on Employees Job Satisfaction & Organizational Identification in Korean Hotel Industry (호텔기업 종사원의 변혁적 리더십이 직무만족과 조직 동일시에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzed the structural elements of transformational leadership on hotel employees job satisfaction and organizational identification, and inquired into how moderating variables such as demographical characteristics and the features of hotels affect transformational leadership. The ultimate purpose of this study was to provide managerial implications to hotel business operators and hotel employees. The main results of this study are as follows; According to the result of factor analysis on transformational leadership and hotel employees job satisfaction, 18 variables were derived as two factors 'obliging leadership' & 'vision leadership' factor in the area of transformational leadership, and 31 variables were derived as four factors 'welfare and work environment', 'ability display and job stability', 'colleague relationship and job performance' and 'company policy' factor. Second, stepwise regression analysis on whether the type of transformational leadership at hotels has a significant effect on employees job satisfaction & organizational identification, 'vision leadership' and job satisfaction and the both 'vision leadership' & 'obliging leadership' among the types of transformational leadership appeared to have a significant effect on hotel employees organizational identification. Third, One-Way ANOVA and t-test in order to examine significant difference in the type of transformational leadership according to demographical characteristics and general characteristics, statistically significant difference was found according to income level, the current position, work experience, the type of hotel operation and the experience of job change.

  • In this rapidly changing era of infinite competition, many companies highlight the importance of internal resources to secure competitiveness. Especially in the service industry, because hotel employees provide service face-to-face with customers, their attitude at the moment of truth directly affects the customers satisfaction and consequently it is directly related to the survival and development of organization. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of transformational leadership of hotel managers on self-efficacy, organizational commitment, and job performance. This research aims to provide theoretical and practical implications through the exercise of manager's leadership in the hotel industry. As a result of the analysis, transformational leadership, self-efficacy, and organizational commitment have partially significant positive(+) effect on job performance. Thus, hotel managers should present a strong vision, establish the sense of target and show a careful and persistent interest on individuals to derive voluntary participation and creativity.

  • The purpose of this study is to how certain types of leadership of food and beverage employees in the super deluxe hotels in Seoul significantly affect self-efficacy, organizational efficacy and organizational effectiveness. The model was tested using SPSS 12.0 and AMOS 5.0 on a sample of 222 respondents with 74% of a usable response nate. The result of ANCOVA indicates idealized influence, individualized consideration and intellectual stimulation, which are the characteristics of transformational leaders, significantly and positively influence the organizational-efficacy, job satisfaction and organizational commitment Individualized consideration and intellectual stimulation significantly influence self-efficacy. Self-efficacy significantly influence. Organizational efficacy, and it also indirectly influence organizational commitment through job satisfaction. Organizational efficacy bas a significant relationship with organizational commitment through job satisfaction while it doesn't have a direct effect on organizational commitment.

National Culture and Leadership Style on Restaurant Employees' Affective Commitment

  • The topics of leadership and culture have attracted substantial interest from both academics and practitioners. This study examines the effects of leadership styles and national culture on affective commitment in samples of the restaurant employees in US. In detail, this study examines how employees evaluate their leaders with different national cultures and the ways in which cultural similarity influences employees' affective commitment. The findings suggest that participative leadership style and supportive leadership style have effects on affective commitment but instrumental leadership style does not. In addition, the findings show that employees evaluate differently leaderships of their leaders with different national culture. Finally, in order to increase the employees' affective commitment, it is recommended for managers to employ supportive leadership style toward employees of different national cultures. Participative leadership style is more effective when a manager is familiar with his or her employees' national culture.

  • This study suggest a model to find out relationships among the servant leadership as a preceding factor, the trust in higher officers as mediating factors, and leader satisfaction, additional efforts as a resulting factor. Then, empirical study testify the relationship among these factors. This study confined the subjects of empirical analysis to the employees in super-deluxe hotels located in Seoul, Gyeongju, Busan, and Daegu areas. In order to clarify the utility of this study, This study took only hotel employees as the subject of measurement because only hotel organization is able to reveal sensitively the behavioral response between the leader and the members of organization. The preceding study has systematized a basic theory on the servant leadership, and provided factor structure in regard to the servant leadership, but this study has searched the factor structure of the servant leadership with the hotel employees as the subjects of study. Also, from the side of the personnel manager of hotel business, this study can be a criterion for clarifying a leadership program. Especially, in order to cultivate their servant leadership, it is necessary to testify morality and pride as sub-behavioral characteristics of new employees. Also to change the mid-managers' leadership for the effective achievement of the object of organization, this study can be utilized for the development of servant leadership.

A Study on the Influence of Leadership of the Section Leader on Trust and Business Achievement in Hotels (호텔 부서장의 리더십이 신뢰 및 조직 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The most important factor in hotel business is the management system of human resources, and focuses on the role of a manager who successfully achieves the business objective. This study is based on a survey conducted on staff members from five-star hotels in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. It aims to look into the influence of leadership and confidence on a Department Chief in terms of overall business achievement. As a result of the verified analysis of this study is as follows: First, the influence of the Department Chief's leadership on confidence(Estimate=1.083, C.R.=12.977) was the highest. Second, the influence of the Department Chief's leadership on business achievement(Estimate=0.651, C.R.=5.864) was relevantly high. Third, the influence of confidence of the Department Chief on business achievement(Estimate=0.217, C.R.=2.054) was relevantly low, but still beneficial. As a result of this study concludes that in order to enhance business achievement, both leadership and confidence of the Department Chief were crucial. Especially, the Department Chief's leadership had an effect on the level of staff members' satisfaction, devotion and intention to change one's occupation in the form of having trust on the Department Chief. Such a result indicates that the Department Chief's leadership plays an active role in elevating the staff members' satisfaction on their job. An elevated satisfaction level will further enhance trust, business performance, devotion to company, cohesion, and productivity.
