Recrystallization Controlled Deformation of AISI 4140 (AISI 4140 강재의 재결정 제어변형)

  • The static softening behavior of AISI 4140 could be characterized by the hot torsion test in the temperature ranges of 10$0^{\circ}C$~120$0^{\circ}C$ and strain rate ranges of 0.05/sec~5/sec. Deformation efficiency which was based on dynamic materials model was calculated from flow stress curves obtained continuous deformation. Interrupted deformation was performed with 2 pass deformation in the pass strain ranges of 0.25{{{{ epsilon _p}}}} ~3{{{{ epsilon _p}}}} and interrupted time ranges of 0.5~100sec. The dependences of process variables pass strain ({{{{ epsilon _i}}}}) stain rate ({{{{ {. } atop {$\varepsilon$ } }}}}) temperature (T) and interpass time ({{{{ {t }_{i } }}}}) on static recrystallization (SRX) and metadynamic recrystallization .(MDRX) could be indicidually predicted from the modified Avrami's equations. Comparison of the softening kinetics between MDRX and SRX showed that the rate of MDRX was more rapid than that of SRX for the same deformation variables. Controlled multipass deformations were performed using deformation efficiency static and metadynamic recrystallization of AISI 4140.

  • For the time being, HMA test specimen were prepared by Marshall Compaction Method for hot mix asphalt design and evaluated the mechanical properties of HMA at the specified air voids. Gyratory Compaction can simulate the field compaction process and measure the degree of compaction just after field compaction in laboratory. Superpave mix design with Gyratory compactor has been used for characterization of performance. The curve of gyratory compaction can be used to evaluate the permanent deformation potential of hot mix asphalt. In this paper, couple of indices for hot mix asphalt have been showed for hot mix asphalt in Korea. The major properties from gyratory compaction curve are compaction energy index and traffic compaction index. The specific guide line for the potential of hot mix asphalt has been proposed.

  • This study intends to evaluate of the characteristics of pavement deformation and develop the model for prediction model in the asphalt layer using a regression analysis. In test, there are two different asphalt binders and 5 different aggregate types. The air voids of hot mix asphalt are 6% and 10% for target value. Repeated triaxial compression test with 3 different confining pressures was used for test at 3 different test temperatures. It is going to verify the main parameters for permanent deformation of HMA and to develop the distress model. This paper is to figure out the factor affecting the pavement deformation, and then to develop model the pavement deformation for asphalt mixture. Also, the reliability of prediction model has been studied. The permanent deformation prediction model for asphalt mixtures with temperature, loading time, and air voids has been developed and the proposed permanent deformation prediction model has been validated by using the multiple regression approach which is called Statistical Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS).

  • The thermomechanical elasto-plastic problems in hot forging of the porous metals are analyzed using the thermo-elasto-plastic finite element method. This finite element program has been formulated using the yield condition advanced by Lee and Kim and developed using the thermo-elasto-plastic time integration procedure. Thermomechanical responses and densification behaviors of the porous metals during hot forging are calcucated at various initial relative densities, strain rates and temperatures. The calculated results are in good agreement with experimental data.

  • To investigate the behavior of platic deformation inaxisymmetric hot extrusion through square dies, the physical modelling with the plasticine as a model material is carried out at the room temperature. Some mechanical properties of the model material are determined by compression and ring compression tests. Visioplasticity method using experimetal grid distortion is introduced to anlayze the plastic flow, strain rate and strain distribution.

Coupled temperature-displacement modeling to study the thermo-elastic instability in disc brakes

  • Macroscopic hot spots formed due to the large thermal gradients at the surface of the disc brake rotor, make the rotor to fail or wear out early. Thermo-elastic deformation results in contact concentration, leading to the non uniform distribution of temperature making the disc susceptible to hot spot formation. The formation of one hot spot event will predispose the system to future hot spotting at the same location. This leads to the complete thermo-elastic instability in the disc brakes; multitude parameters are responsible for the thermo elastic instability. The predominant factor is the sliding velocity and above a certain sliding velocity the instability of the brake system occurs and hot spots is formed in the surface of the disc brake. Commercial finite element package ABAQUS(R) is used to find the temperature distribution and the result is validated using Rowson's analytical model. A coupled analysis methodology is evolved for the automotive disc brake from the transient thermo-elastic contact analysis. Temperature variation is studied under different sliding speeds within the operation range.

The Effects of Pass Strain and Rolling Temperature on Flow Stress and Flow Strain of AA5083 Alloy (AA5083 합금의 고온유동응력 및 연신율에 미치는 압연온도와 패스변형량의 영향)

  • Different pass strains and rolling temperatures were applied to understand the effects of pass strain and rolling temperature on flow stress and flow strain of AA5083 alloy. The specimens were prepared by conventional casting process followed by hot rolling. Hot torsion tests were conducted at temperature ranges of 350 to 52$0^{\circ}C$ under a strain rate of 1.0/sec. During the process, hot-restoration mechanisms, dynamic recovery(DRV) or dynamic recrystallization (DRX), of the AA5083 alloy were analyzed from the flow curves and deformed microstructures. It was found that while the rolling strain per pass and rolling temperature have little effect on the folw stress, they have significant effect on the failure strain. The DRV was responsible for the hot restoration mechanism of the hot-rolled specimen. heavily elongated grains and small subgrains containing dislocations were obtaned during the hot deformation. This was due to the presence of Al6Mn precipitate in the alloy.

  • For an accurate analysis of hot stamping, a coupled simulation with different aspects of the process(i.e. mechanical, thermal, and phase transformation) is needed. However, coupled simulations are time consuming and costly. Therefore, the current study proposes a simplified method focused on the forming for the hot stamping simulation of a coupled torsion beam axle (CTBA) tubular beam. In this simplified method, non-isothermal conditions were assumed and only conduction was considered, since it represents the majority of the heat transfer during hot stamping. In addition, temperature and strain rate effects were also included. Moreover, an isothermal simulation was conducted and compared with a non-isothermal simulation. Finally, the simulations were verified by experiments. In conclusion, the proposed method is shown to be effective for the development of tube-type parts, and it effectively predicts the deformation of the tubular beam during hot stamping.
