Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate end-of-life care preferences of employees working in a university hospital. Methods: Of 650 eligible employees that were approached, 607 employees (386 nurses, 93 physicians, and 128 general staff) completed the Korean version of Preferences for Care Near the End of Life (PCEOL-K). Results: Among 5 dimensions of the PECOL-K, "Pain" was the most preferred care dimension and "Decision making by health care professional" was the least preferred care dimension. The item that received the highest mean score was "I want to let nature guide my dying and I do not want my life to be artificially prolonged in any way", and the lowest item was "I want health care providers to make all decisions about my care". As preferred care near the end of life, nurses gave lower scores to the life sustaining treatment and decision making by health care profession than physicians and general staff. Compared to physicians and nurses, general staff preferred the decision making by health care professional and by family. Conclusion: The results show that adequate pain relief is the most preferred care at the end of life among hospital employees and non-medical personnel preferred decision making by others.

Possible cross-transmission of hospital-associated enterococci between human patients, medical staff, and hospital environments has been extensively studied. However, limited information is available for veterinary hospital-associated Enterococcus isolates. This study investigated the possibility of cross-transmission of antibiotic-resistant enterococci between dog patients, their owners, veterinary staff, and hospital environments. Swab samples (n=465) were obtained from five veterinary hospitals in Seoul, Korea, during 2011. Forty-three Enterococcus strains were isolated, representing seven enterococcal species. E. faecalis and E. faecium were the most dominant species (16 isolates each, 37.2%). Although slight differences in the antibiotic resistance profiles were observed between the phenotypic and the genotypic data, our antibiogram analysis demonstrated high prevalence of the multiple drug-resistant (MDR) isolates of E. faecalis (10/16 isolates, 62.5%) and E. faecium (12/16 isolates, 75.0%). Pulsed-field gel electrophoretic comparison of the MDR isolates revealed three different clonal sets of E. faecalis and a single set of E. faecium, which were isolated from different sample groups or dog patients at the same or two separate veterinary hospitals. These results imply a strong possibility of cross-transmission of the antibiotic-resistant enterococcal species between animal patients, owners, veterinary staff, and hospital environments.

This study was conducted to construct and test structural equation modeling of the causal relationship of job satisfaction of nursing staff with satisfaction, revisit intention and recommendation of the hospital by patients. The data utilized in this study were the second data acquired from the 2012 Public Hospital Evaluation Programme. The subjects of this study were 2,375 nursing staff and 3,433 patients at 39 district public hospitals. The instrument of job satisfaction of nursing staff consisted of five factors and 13 items. The instruments of satisfaction, revisit intention, and recommendation to others of patients consisted of one question on an 11 point scale (0: very negative, 10: very positive). The data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 and AMOS version 20.0. Model fit indices for the hypothetical model were suitable for the recommended level: model of in-patient ${\chi}^2$ 904.598 (df=81, p<0.001), GFI 0.938, AGFI 0.900, RMSR 0.076, mode of out-patient ${\chi}^2$ 869.021(df=81, p<0.001), GFI 0.940, AGFI 0.900, RMSR 0.074. In conclusion, nursing staff are the largest group in public hospitals, and they provide direct care to patients. Therefore, job satisfaction of nursing staff should be enhanced to improve satisfaction of patients because their attitude significantly influences patient satisfaction.
This study is to survey the materials purchasing and inventory management status and the characteristics and opinions of the staff in charge of purchasing and inventory of the general hospitals in Busan area in order to contribute to the rationalization of its management through the grasp of actual situation and the presentation of desirable improvement plan for the materials purchasing and inventory management. The status of medical institute had been surveyed by the purchasing/ administration managers of total 26 general hospitals, and the purchasing/ management questionnaires had been commenced with 86 staff of the 26 hospitals. Its major survey results, after the analysis of 24 medical institute statuses (return rate of 92.30%) and 60 staff questionnaires (return rate of 69.76%), are as follows. First, post-purchasing evaluation system is not used actively, orders are being placed by phone or fax, and general merchandise is being purchased through free contracts in most of the hospitals participated in the survey. Second, as per the materials supplying methods, the requisition and delivery system is currently the most popular in the hospitals surveyed, however, both the requisition and delivery system and the par level transfer system are the most desired in the hospitals of more than 500 beds, and the par level transfer system is the most desired in the hospitals under 500 beds for the materials supplying system in the future. Third, as per the inventory management system that is desired the most in the future, the SPD and JIT types are preferred in the hospitals of more than 500 beds, the stockless strategy is preferred in the hospitals under 500 beds, the senior staff above section chief grade prefer the stockless strategy, and the junior staff prefer the ABC classification and SPD types. Fourth, The necessity of purchasing staff's training for the materials management is highly recognized but the effectiveness is not so much acknowledged, which is because such a training is thought to be so superficial and formal that it is not helpful much in the actual field. When summarizing the survey results as above, the materials purchasing and management system is differed for each group of hospitals according to the size of beds, and the more scientific management system is largely required by the general hospitals in Busan city. They also hope the introduction of joint purchasing system, materials management by the bar-code system, and positive execution of the market survey and training of the relevant staff for the management of purchasing affairs. So the more systematic purchasing and inventory management is regarded to be necessary through the introduction of scientific and specialized education of materials management, market survey, and post-purchasing evaluation system also through the computerization of materials purchasing and inventory management as soon as possible.
Objectives: The number of cases of hepatitis A virus (HAV) infections has sharply increased in Korea, especially among young adults. In this study, an HAV outbreak in a facility for disabled people was investigated, and we found epidemiological differences both between 2 different generations and between generally abled and disabled groups. Methods: We analyzed the incubation period and attack rate of an HAV outbreak and investigated the prevalence of HAV antibodies among the staff and residents of a facility for the disabled. We performed a retrospective cohort study during the HAV outbreak, which lasted from February 8 to 25, 2019, including examinations of HAV antibody tests and post-exposure HAV vaccination for the staff or residents of the facility. Results: There were 9 confirmed cases in 2 staff members and 7 residents. Among 53 people (30 staff and 23 residents), except for the 9 confirmed cases and 1 staff member with a known history of HAV infection, HAV seroprevalence was seen in 16.7% of the staff under 40 years of age and 95.2% of those over 40 years of age, while the corresponding rates in the residents were 0.0% and 58.8%, respectively. Conclusions: This result implies that it is necessary to prioritize HAV vaccination for vulnerable groups and workers of residential care facilities.

Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, human resources play a vital role in the health industry because the staff all has to confront a lot of stresses in serving the country and the people to overcome the severe contagiousness and infection of the virus. It is also the case of Family General Hospital, Da Nang (Vietnam). Therefore, the Hospital identifies talented personnel as a core resource in its sustainable development strategy. Researching on how to retain talented staff to serve the sustainable and long-term development of a private hospital such as Family Hospital is extremely necessary, especially when there are fewer large and modern private health facilities for the healthcare system in Central Vietnam compared to the North and the South. With the analysis of survey data and in-depth interviews from both qualitative and quantitative perspectives (via SPSS 20.0), especially the ANOVA and EFA analyses, and linear multiple regression (Generation 1 methods), this study aims to clarify the aspects that affect the talent retention in the representative Family Hospital. The lessons learned have been a good reference for similar private healthcare models in the process of bringing health-related services to a new level in the competition.
It is necessary to investigate the relationship between ego-resiliency, organizational loyalty, organizational commitment, and emotional intelligence of hospital administrative staff and the effect of these factors on emotional intelligence. Therefore, this study investigated the relationship between these factors and emotional intelligence and identified the convergence effect on emotional intelligence in hospital administrative staff. The subjects of the survey were randomly selected 212 administration staffs at 19 hospitals selected from the J area. The data collection was conducted for about a month from May 1 to 31, 2019. The form of the questionnaire used structured anonymous self-administered responses. Emotional intelligence showed a positive correlation between ego-resiliency, organizational loyalty, and organizational commitment. According to the analysis, efforts to enhance ego-resiliency, organizational loyalty, and organizational commitment are needed to increase the emotional intelligence of hospital administration staffs. The findings may be used as basic materials for hospital job management and industrial health education that will raise the emotional intelligence of hospital administration staffs. Future research needs to investigate additional factors related to emotional intelligence and various emotional factors of hospital administrative staff.

A critical pathway (CP) defines the optimal care process, sequencing and timing of intervention by multi-disciplinary health care teams for a particular diagnosis and procedure. It plays an important role as a cost-effective health care delivery system and a tool for quality control of medical and dental services by means of standardizing medical practices. The aim of this study is to investigate the satisfaction of patients and medical/dental staff after implementation of a critical pathway for dental treatment of disabled children under general anesthesia and its cost effectiveness. Ten patients who underwent dental treatment under general anesthesia were included in the CP group between August and December 2006. The pre-CP group included 20 patients who underwent the same procedure from February 2003. The satisfaction of parent of child patient and medical staff members were compared between two groups. The parents' satisfaction was significantly improved after the implementation of CP and medical/dental staff members were highly satisfied with the usefulness of the critical pathway. In conclusion, the critical pathway for the dental treatment of disabled treatment under general anesthesia can highly improve the satisfaction of parents and medical/ dental staff members.
Objectives: Because recently hospital had to faced with financial hardship, we have to have more effective hospital management. The purpose of this study was to reduce loss costs of the hospital through the systematic management of medical supplies and increase operational efficiency. Methods: The team was composed of outpatient nursing staff, medical record administrator, nurses in medical insurance, medical computer center, dermatologists for this study. We surveyed for 114 people including outpatient nursing staff, nurse aids, medical assistant, physician assistant. Pre-survey period was 2013.03.11 ~ 03.30(2 weeks), and post-survey period was 2013.09.03 ~ 09.17(2 weeks). Result: We improved this way through the computational improvement, conservation campaigns, inventory management, staff training, replaced by low-cost medical supplies. The finding of this study were as follows: Comparing before and after the activity of outpatient nursing staff's degree of knowledge, performance, economic consciousness, the degree of knowledge, performance was increased, but there was no significant change in economic consciousness. Performance of Married person is higher than the unmarried, In addition, the high-position people were more the degree of knowleage, economic consciousness. After activity, correlation of goods and treatment, examinations is increasing, but statistically there was no mean. Conclusion: This study revealed that knowledge in a short period of activity, but also can improve, perform the same change in behavior is not easy. This one shows the intensive training required to sustained and systematic behavioral changes, such as changes in behavior, perform rituals to help the economy. Expensive medical supplies to replace a similar effect as the cost of materials just to have a lot of cost savings. Therefore, more medical supplies change is necessary to develop alternative treatment and cost cutting.
This study is performed to determine factors related to occupational stress among some hospital administrative staff. It surveyed 189 staff working in Jeonbuk area during the period from June 1st to July 31th, 2014. The structured self-administered questionaires were delivered and they were collected without respondents' personal information. The results of multiple regression analysis show the followings. The occupational stress of respondents turned out to be significantly higher in following groups: a group of female, a group that the type A behavior pattern is higher, a group that chance locus of control is higher, a group that external locus of control is lower, a group of the lower self esteem, a group of higher psycho-social stress, and a group of higher depression. Their explanatory power was 55.8%. In conclusion, the results of the study indicate that the efforts, to manage the type A behavior pattern and belief of control, to increase self esteem, and to decrease psycho-social stress and depression level, are required to reduce the occupational stress of the hospital administrative staff.
