Responses of Inferior Olive Neurons to Stimulation of Semicircular Canals

  • In spite of abundant anatomical evidences for the fiber connection between vestibular nuclei and inferior olivary (IO) complex, the transmission of vestibular information through the vestibulo- olivo-cerebellar climbing fiber pathway has not been physiologically established. The aims of the present study were to investigate whether there are IO neurons specifically responding to horizontal rotation and also in which subregions of IO complex these vestibularly-activated neurons are located. The extracellular recording was made in 68 IO neurons and responses of 46 vestibularly-activated cells were analyzed. Most of the vestibularly-activated IO neurons responded to signals of vertical rotation (roll), while a small number (13/46) of recorded cells were activated by horizontal canal signal (yaw). Regardless of yaw-sensitive or roll-sensitive, vestibular IO neurons were excited, when the animal was rotated to the side contralateral to the recording side. The gain and excitation phase were very similar to otolithic or vertical-canal responses. Histologic identification of recording sites showed that most of vestibular IO neurons were located in ${\beta}$ subnucleus. Electrical stimulation of a HSC evoked an inhibitory effect on the excitability of the ipsilateral IO neurons. These results suggest that IO neurons mainly in the ${\beta}$ subnucleus receive vestibular signals from semicircular canals and otolithic organs, encode them, and transmit vestibular information to the cerebellum.

  • 핸드오버는 이동통신 단말기가 기지국과 기지국 사이를 이동해도 끊김없이 데이터 송수신이 가능하도록 해주는 기술이다 핸드오버 종류는 크게 두 가지로 구분되는데 네트워크 링크의 변경 없이 라디오 링크 연결만 변경되는 것을 수평(horizontal) 핸드오버라 하고, 서로 다른 네트워크 환경을 이동하는 것을 수직(vertical) 핸드오버로 정의할 수 있다. 본 논문은 SDR(Software Defined Radio)을 기반으로 W-CDMA망과 WiBro망을 동시에 지원하는 기지국내에서의 수직 핸드오프 프로토콜을 제안하고, 제안된 프로토콜을 상태천이도 및 페트리 넷을 이용하여 검증하고 또한 NS-2 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 제안된 프로토콜의 성능을 평가하였다

수평집적형 광전자집적회로를 위한 InP/InGaAs PIN 광다이오드의 설계 및 제작 (Design and Fabrication of InP/InGaAs PIN Photodiode for Horizontally Integrated OEIC's)

  • OEIC(Optoelectronic Integrated Circuit)'s can be integrated horizontally or vertically. Horizontal integration approach is, however, more immune to parasitic and more universally applicable. In this paper, a structural modeling, fabrication and characterization of PIN photodiodes which can be used in the horizontal integration are performed. For device modeling, we build a transmission line model from 2-D device simulation, from which lumped model parameters are extracted. The speed limits of the PIN photodiodes can also be calculated under various structural conditions from the model. Thus optimum design of horizontally integrated PIN photodiodes for high speed operation are possible. Such InGaAs/InP PIN photodiodes for long-wavelength communications are fabricated using pit etch, epi growth, planarization, diffusion and metallization processes. Planarization process using both RIE and wet etching and diffusion process using evaporated Zn$_{3}P_{2}$ film are developed. Characterization of the fabricated devices is performed through C-V and I-V measurements. At a reserve bias of 10V, the dark current is less than 5nA and capacitance is about 0.4pF. The calculated bandwidth using the measured series resistance and capacitance is about 4.23GHz.

  • 분산 멀티미디어 응용은 다양한 전송 품질을 요구하지만, 가장 중요한 특성은 높 은 성능과 적은 전송 지연이다. 고속 통신망의 전송 능력은 Gbps 수준을 제공하고 있 지만 통신 구조상의 허리 부분 병목 현상 때문에 멀티미디어 응용까지 효율적으로 제 공되지 못하고 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 통신 구조상 허리 부분을 수 평 구조화, 병렬화 함으로써 고속화 하였다. 불행하게도 OSI 프로토콜 스택은 계층 단위의 병렬화를 가로 막는 순서상 제약 조건을 갖고 있다. 우리 모델은 고정 패킷을 사용함으로써 망 계층에서 부터 표현 계층까지 동시에 수행시킬 수 있었다. 프로토타 입 구현에 의하면, 우리 모델은 기존의 OSI 계층 구조 모델에 비해 약 61%의 성능 향 샹을 보여 주었다.

  • LTE-Advanced system has been deployed with 2 and 4 transmission antennas (Tx) while the specification supports up to 8Tx. Due to deployment space, antenna dimension and complexity, the needs of deploying 8Tx system has not been motivated by operators. Recently, three dimensional (3D) beamforming with active antenna has attracted significant attention in the wireless industry. By incorporating 2D active array into LTE-A systems, the system offers freedom in controlling radiation on elevation and horizontal dimension. When the number of antennas increases in the form of 2D arrangement, spatial separation can be realized simultaneously in horizontal and elevation domain and vertical beam-steering can increase SINR of UEs in high floors. In this paper, we study the system operations and implementations for supporting 3D beamforming with 8Tx antennas. In our schemes, by reusing the conventional CSI feedback framework, the system can operate 2D active array without harming the backward compatibility. Evaluation results show that 3D beamforming provides capacity boosting over the conventional 2D beamforming systems while keeping same antenna structure.

  • 최근 국내에서 활발히 적용되고 있는 LRFD 설계법의 합리적인 적용을 위하여 상대적으로 사례가 부족한 인발하중 및 수평하중의 연구를 위하여 사회적으로 중요한 구조물인 송전철탑의 기초 형태를 바탕으로 한 원형기초를 풍화토 단일지층과 풍화토, 풍화암, 연암으로 구성된 혼합지층에서의 현장실증시험을 수행하여 인발하중 및 수평하중에 대한 각 지층의 저항성 분석을 통해 설계에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 인자에 대하여 연구하였다.

송전 선로 극저주파 자기장 저감지수(FRF) 특성 해석 (Analysis of ELF Magnetic Field Reduction Factor of Electric Power Transmission Line)

  • 본 연구는 송전 선로 여러 가지 유형의 극저주파 자기장 저감 적용 모델을 조사하고 그 효과를 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 154 kV 수평 배열 송전 선로를 기본으로 하여 적용 가능한 다양한 자기장 저감 모델에 대하여 적용시 얻게 되는 자기장 저감지수(Field Reduction Factor)를 검토하였다. 그 결과 compact 모델 채용시에는 상간거리 compact화 비율과 자기장 저감지수가 거의 비례하였으며, diamond 모델 및 transposed 선로 배치의 경우는 50 %에 근접한 자기장 저감이 가능하였다. 배전 선로에 적용이 가능한 삼각형 배열은 33 % 정도, 2회선 split는 50 % 정도 저감 효과가 나타나는 것으로 분석되었으며 수평 multi split 모델의 경우는 80 %까지 자기장 저감을 얻을 수 있었다.

Assessment of Magnetic Field Mitigation and Electrical Environmental Effects for Commercially Operating 154kV Transmission Lines with Passive Loop

  • Power frequency magnetic field is still a critical problem for new construction of overhead power transmission lines in Korea because most people have been concerned about possibly carcinogenic effects of it. Although reference level of power frequency(60Hz) magnetic field has been set to 200uT in ICNIRP guidelines published in 2010, Korean government has no intention of adjusting 83.3uT specified by law in 2006 to this new reference level in consideration of people's concerns for the time being. Regardless of the current regulated magnetic field value, electric utility company has been trying to reduce magnetic field in the residential area in the vicinity of overhead power transmission lines to take into account of public concerns on the long-term effect of magnetic fields. In an effort to reduce magnetic field, engineering side has made considerable efforts to develop passive loop based, cost-effective mitigation technique of power frequency magnetic field more than ten years. In order to verify developed power frequency magnetic field mitigation technique based on passive loop, a horizontal type of passive loop was designed and installed for commercially operating 154kV overhead power transmission line for the first time in Korea. The measurement results before and after the installation of passive loop showed that magnetic field could be reduced to about 20%. The electrical environmental effects such as AN, RI and TVI were assessed before and after the installation of passive loop and these values were complied with the requirements specified by electric utility. It has been confirmed from the field test results that passive loop could be commercially and cost-effectively utilized to mitigate power frequency magnetic field.

잔류응력과 초기변형을 고려한 송전철탑의 비선형 극한거동에 관한 해석적 연구 (Study on Ultimate Behavior of Steel Transmission Tower with Residual Stress and Initial Imperfection)

  • 본 논문에서는 잔류응력과 초기변형을 고려한 비선형 해석을 실시하여 송전철탑의 극한거동을 분석하였다. 송전철탑 전체 해석 모델링에 주주재, 수평재 및 1차 사재는 보(Beam)요소를 사용하였고, 기타 사재 및 보조재는 트러스(Truss)요소를 사용하였으며 구조해석프로그램 ABAQUS(2004)를 사용하였다. ABAQUS Imperfection 옵션 및 Initial condition 옵션을 사용한 초기변형 및 잔류응력 적용의 적절성을 평가하고자 판(Plate & Shell)요소 부재모델과 보요소 부재모델의 해석결과를 비교분석하였다. 보요소와 트러스 요소를 적용한 송전철탑 전체모델의 비선형 해석결과 ${P-{\triangle}}$효과로 인하여 철탑 하부 각재부 주요 부재에 좌굴파괴가 발생하였다. 본 연구에서는 구조물의 안전성에 영향을 미치는 비선형 해석인자 즉 잔류응력과 초기변형의 정도에 따른 안전성 저하값을 정량적으로 평가하여 제시하고 있다. 그러므로, 본 연구의 결과는 실제 송전철탑의 파괴극한거동에 가까운 설계법, 해석법 및 시공법 정립에 크게 기여할 것으로 판단된다.

적외선 열화상 분석을 통한 온실의 열손실 진단 및 평가 (Heat Loss Audit and Assessment of the Greenhouses Using Infrared Thermal Image Analysis)

  • Unlike Urban building, horticultural facilities has a lot of heat loss through plastic or glass covering material which could be much influential to growing plant and consuming energy for heating greenhouse. In many cases, heat loss from a break of cover, a gap of joint sealing, the entrance to greenhouse and windows for ventilation are the main factors considered in calculating the heating load for horticultural facilities. however the normal observation through human eye and digital camera could not recognize where the heat loss occurred. but the infrared thermal image camera with detecting thermal difference could be very effective for noticing heat loss by analyzing infrared thermal image. In this study, greenhouse structure, covering material, internal and external provisions for Horticultural facilities were surveyed in different sites and Infrared thermal camera shooting and image analysis were performed for auditing heat loss from cultivation facilities The results from this study were that unexpected heat loss had been noticed in 7 representative cases of greenhouse such as side wall covered with single or double plastic, and the joint of horizontal thermal curtain, roof without horizontal thermal curtain, entrance to greenhouse, windows for ventilation. the most important factors for keeping heat energy were whether the horizontal thermal curtain with multifold thermal material was installed or not. The internal or external covering using multifold thermal curtain proved to be the most effective ways to keep heat energy from losing through heat transmission, heat radiation. from inside to outside the horticultural facilities.
