Geogrid is widely used as the reinforcement materials in railway earth structures in order to achieve efficient land utilization as well as securing safety in railway service lines in other countries. In this study, the real scale test was carried out to investigate the application of geogrid reinforced soil segmental retaining walls(SRWs) in railway. For this goal, the vibration transfer characteristics of reinforced soil segmental retaining walls was evaluated. The resonant frequencies of SRWs, vertical ground vibration in backfill and vertical/horizontal vibration at segmental units were acquired. This experimental data and analysis result can contribute to understand the vibration response behavior of SRWs.

Large panel building systems are composed of vertical wall panels which support horizontal roof and floor panels to form a box like structure. The simplecity of the connections, which makes precast concrete economically viable, causes a lack of continuity in stiffness, strength and ductility. This precast concrete large panel systems typically have weak connection regions. Three types of 2-story full-scale precast concrete subassemblages were tested under reversed cyclic loading. The seismic resistance capacity and failure mode of each system are compared in connection with the characteristics of joint connection details.

The seismic performance of precast concrete panel structures tested previously has been evaluated in this paper. Hysteretic curves of test specimens are idealized to elasto-plastic curves to get reliable yielding and ultimate displacements. For the idealized curves, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of specimens have been evaluated using a few guide lines. In addition, the strength capacity of specimens is checked for the strength demand caused by the design earthquake load including overturning moment effects. The result shows while the strength of specimen with joint box for vertical continuity is little bit lower than that of specimen connected by welding, the ductility of the former is higher than that of the latter. The energy dissipation ratios of PC specimens are ranged from 83% to 96% of that of Re specimen and the average of those are shown 90%.
A pre-load of bracing was imposed to prevent the horizontal displacement on the strut of the braced wall adjacent to the building during the ground excavation. For this purpose, large scale model tests were conducted, without and with pre-load on braced wall. Adjacent building load was also imposed in different locations, that were 0 m, 1D, 2D on ground surface. In this study, model tests in 1:10 scale were performed in real construction sequences, and adjacent building was 12 m in width and the size of model test pit was 2 m in width, 6 m in height, and 4 m in length. As a result, it was found that the stability of the existing building adjacent to the braced wall within Rankine's active zone could be greatly enhanced when the horizontal displacement of the braced wall was reduced by applying a pre-load. which was larger than the designated axial force on the strut of the braced wall.
Experimental and numerical simulation were used to investigate the effects of angle and number of T shape non-persistent crack on the shear behaviour of crack's bridge area under uniaxial compressive test. concrete samples with dimension of 150 mm×150 mm×40 mm were prepared. Within the specimen, T shape non-persistent notches were provided. 16 different configuration systems were prepared for T shape non-persistent crack based on two and three cracks. In these configurations, the length of cracks were taken as 4 cm and 2 cm based on the cracks configuration systems. The angle of larger crack related to horizontal axis was 0°, 30°, 60° and 90°. Similar to cracks configuration systems in the experimental tests, 28 models with different T shape non-persistent crack angle were prepared in numerical model. The length of cracks were taken as 4 cm and 2 cm based on the cracks configuration systems. The angle of larger crack related to horizontal axis was 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° and 90°. Tensile strength of concrete was 1 MPa. The axial load was applied to the model. Displacement loading rate was controlled to 0.005 mm/s. Results indicated that the failure process was significantly controled by the T shape non-persistent crack angle and crack number. The compressive strengths of the specimens were related to the fracture pattern and failure mechanism of the discontinuities. Furthermore, it was shown that the compressive behaviour of discontinuities is related to the number of the induced tensile cracks which are increased by increasing the crack number and crack angle. The strength of samples decreased by increasing the crack number. In addition, the failure pattern and failure strength are similar in both methods i.e. the experimental testing and the numerical simulation methods (PFC2D).
The bucket platform is a new structure suitable for construction of offshore bridge foundations and providing the temporary support for equipments and labour. The platform can be subjected to moment loading due to the eccentric loading or the horizontal load by wave and wind. Therefore, a three dimensional finite element analysis was performed to evaluate the moment bearing capacity of the bucket platform, varying soil density, the diameter and embedment depth of the bucket. The numerical modeling was verified and compared with the moment-rotation curve from a field loading test. The uniform sandy ground was assumed and the moment load was applied at the top plate of the platform, increasing bucket rotation. The moment-rotation relations were analyzed to determine the moment capacity, which was influenced by the embedment depth and diameter of the bucket. Finally, a preliminary design equation was suggested to estimate the moment bearing capacity.

Structures are designed against earthquakes and reinforced concrete shear walls or steel bracings are usually used as aseismic resistant element. However their hysteretic characteristics in plastic region ductility and capacity of energy absorption are not always good. Besides their stiffness is so rigid that structure designed by static analysis is occasionally disadvantageous. when dynamically analized. Generally a steel plate subjected to shear force has a good deformation capacity Also it has been considered to retain comparative shear strength and stiffness Steel shear wall can be used as lateral load resistant element for seismic design. However there was little knowledge concerning shear force-deformation characteristics of steel plates up to their collapse state In this study a series of shear loading tests of steel plate collapse state. In this study a series of shear loading tests of steel plate surrounded by vertical and horizontal ribs were conducted with the parameters of D/H ratios rib type and the loading patterns. The test result is discussed and analyzed to obtain several restoring characteristics. that is shear force-deformation stiffness and yield strength etc.

This study introduces new connections that connect the beam to the column with slit dampers. Plastic deformations and damages concentrate on slit dampers. The slit dampers prevent plastic damages of column, beam, welds and panel zone and act as fuses. The slit dampers were prepared with IPE profiles that had some holes in the webs. In this paper, two experimental specimens were made. In first specimen (SDC1), just one slit damper connected the beam to the column and one IPE profile with no holes connected the bottom flange of the beam to the column. The second specimen (SDC2) had two similar dampers which connected the top and bottom flange of the beam to the column. Cyclic loading was applied on Specimens. The cyclic displacements conditions continued until 0.06 radian rotation of connection. The experimental observations showed that the bending moment of specimen SDC2 increased until 0.04 story drift. In specimen SDC1, the bending moment decreases after 0.03 story drift. Test results indicate the high performance of the proposed connection. Based on the results, the specimen with two slit damper (SDC2) has higher seismic performance and dissipates more energy in loading process than specimen SDC1. Theoretical formulas were extended for the proposed connections. Numerical studies have been done by ABAQUS software. The theoretical and numerical results had good agreements with the experimental data. Based on the experimental and numerical investigations, the high ductility of connection is obtained from plastic damages of slit dampers. The most flexural moment of specimen SDC1 occurred at 3% story drift and this value was 1.4 times the plastic moment of the beam section. This parameter for SDC2 was 1.73 times the plastic moment of the beam section and occurred at 4% story drift. The dissipated energy ratio of SDC2 to SDC1 is equal to 1.51.

A newly puzzle shape of crestbond rib shear connector is a type of ductile perfobond rib shear connector. This shear connector has some advantages, including relatively easy rebar installation and cutting, as well as the higher shear resistance strength. Thus, this study proposed a newly puzzle shape of crestbond rib with a "${\mho}$" shape, and its shear resistance behaviors and shear strengths were examined using push-out tests. Five main parameters were considered in the push-out specimens to evaluate the effects of shear resistance parameters such as the dimensions of the crestbond rib, transverse rebars in the crestbond dowel, concrete strength, rebar strength, and dowel action on the shear strength. The shear loading test results were used to compare the changes in the shear behaviors, failure modes, and shear strengths. It was found that the concrete strength and number of transverse rebars in the crestbond rib were significantly related to its shear resistance. After the initial bearing resistance behavior of the concrete dowel, a relative slip occurred in all the specimens. However, its rigid behavior to shear loading decreased the ductility of the shear connection. The cross-sectional area of the crestbond rib was also shown to have a minor effect on the shear resistance of the crestbond rib shear connector. The failure mechanism of the crestbond rib shear connector was complex, and included compression, shear, and tension. As a failure mode, a crack was initiated in the middle of the concrete slab in a vertical direction, and propagated with increasing shear load. Then, horizontal cracks occurred and propagated to the front and rear faces of the specimens. Based on the results of this study, a design shear strength equation was proposed and compared with previously suggested equations.
Current trends in steel construction include using tapered, non-compact sections to minimize the use of excess material as much as possible by choosing the cross-sections instead of the classical approach of using prismatic members. In addition, snug conditions, especially the end-plate type, have the advantage of incurring less construction costs and shorter assembly times as opposed to full pre-tensioned conditions. On the other hand, it is important to predict the collapse of the PEB system due to over-loading. Large-scale tests of tapered steel portal frames with non-compact sections were conducted. The primary test parameters included the bolt connection method and the loading condition (vertical and horizontal load). The test results on initial stiffness and load capacity were investigated. Furthermore, comparisons between the analytical and experimental data for load-displacement curves were initiated. In addition, we evaluated the applicability of a snug bolt for the PEB frame in the field.
