To investigate fiber orientation of Korean traditional paper, Hanji, the fiber arrangements on the surface and cross section of Hanji were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The surface observation showed that the fibers of traditional paper were arranged in vertical and horizontal directions, and those of ssangbal sheet forming were arranged more in vertical direction. The fibers of machine made Hanji and copying paper were usually arranged in vertical direction. As for the observation of cross section of traditional paper, fibers arranged in horizontal direction tended to be increased with the increase of thicknesses. The thick traditional paper have cracks in the middle part of structural section of paper. They were larger in cross section in horizontal direction than in vertical direction. The horizontal arrangement of traditional paper seemed to be about 8% to 14% higher to the vertical arrangement, which is very lower to other papers.

The extraction of horizontal alignment and cross-section of roads is very important task in road safety diagnosis. Existing road safety diagnosis methods by investigators need much time and expense but don't provide various data. Therefor, we need road shape classification automatically and extraction method of horizontal alignment and cross-section of roads through digital photogrammetry system using GPS-VAN with laser scanner. In this paper, we propose a method of mobile laser scanning data acquisition, processing and developing extraction methods of horizontal alignment and cross-section of roads using mobile laser scanning data by GPS-VAN.
A macroscopic cross section generation model was developed for the conceptual horizontal, compact high temperature gas reactor (HC-HTGR). Because there are many sources of spectral effects in the design and analysis of the core, conventional LWR methods have limitations for accurate simulation of the HC-HTGR using a neutron diffusion core neutronics simulator. Several super-cell model configurations were investigated to consider the spectral effect of neighboring cells. A new history variable was introduced for the existing library format to more accurately account for the history effect from neighboring nodes and reactivity control drums. The macroscopic cross section library was validated through comparison with cross sections generated using full core Monte Carlo models and single cell cross section for both 3D core steady-state problems and 2D and 3D depletion problems. Core calculations were then performed with the AGREE HTR neutronics and thermal-fluid core simulator using super-cell cross sections. With the new history variable, the super-cell cross sections were in good agreement with the full core cross sections even for problems with significant spectrum change during fuel shuffling and depletion.
A three dimensional model for the orebody of an operating mine in Korea was constructed by using a program called '3-D Modeler'. The program allows the user to interactively construct a 3-D model of an orebody from its horizontal cross-sections. The 3-D Modeler is easily able to combine and display various spatial data for model construction. The result of modeling is strongly influenced by control points that correlate to the adjacent horizontal cross-sections. The control points are determined by comparing the geometrical shape of the adjacent cross-sections in conjunction with the geological features of the orebody. The resulting model can be evaluated in viewing the constructed object in three dimensional space or more closely evaluated by inspecting the cross-section. The model can iteratively be improved by modifying the shape of the cross-section and by using this new cross-section for the model building.

Estimation of the gear shape and cross section of sweep at mouth of a bottom trawl net was described and applied to the field experiments obtained with the Scanmar system. The shape of the trawl net from wingend to the beginning of codend was assumed to be part of an elliptic cone of which the cross section was ellipse, and that of the float rope be of form $y_f=a_fx^{bf}$. In case of a bottom trawl with warp 180m long, the radius of ellipse, the cross section of sweep at mouth, the eccentricity of the ellipse, the inclination angle of float rope and the contribution of the side panel to net height were estimated in accordance with towing speed. The horizontal radius of the upper ellipse increased with increasing towing speed, the eccentricity of it became slightly bigger as increasing the towing speed which meant the shape of it being flat. And the inclination angle of the float rope was about between 7 and 12 degrees in case of the above bottom trawl.

One vertical (medianus) and six horizontal (chest, bust, below bust, waist, abdomen and hip) sections of nine healthy pregnant women were examined every month by siliding gauge method during the period from 3rd to loth monthes of pregnancy. In the body changes along the passing months of pregnancy, which were observed by a follow·up measurement, there was little change on the posterior line when viewed using a vertical cross section. On the contrary, there was a great deal of increase on the anterior median line. Particularly, the degree of protrusion was great in the waist and ubilicus area due to pregnancy. At early pregnancy the distance from front to back is much shorter than side to side, however, as pregnancy progressed the front to back distance, on a horizontal cross section, is almost equal to the side to side distance.
The road safety depend on many road factors like vertical alignment, horizontal alignment and road cross section angle. These data are hardly to get with drawings, and the real data are differ from drawings because of road pavement overlay, etc. To get these data, so many time and cost are needed, moreover it is dangerous work in heavy traffic road. In this study we obtained the road safety data with RoSSAV(Road Safety Survey & Analysis Vehicle) of Korea Institute of Construction Technology in accordance with traffic flow, and make analysis of road safety with the vertical alignment, horizontal alignment and road cross section angle data. We derived the safety improvement method in Young-dong accident prone spot and described detail method in this paper.

In this study the optimal stacking section was selected by pendulum impact test for six different stacking sections of the composite safety barrier. The beam cross-section shape was determined through the poll on six different beam cross-section shapes. The six kinds of stacking design for the determined beam cross-section were suggested. CSM, DB, DBT and Roving fibers were used for stacking design. Horizontal beam and 3:1 sloped beam were modeled by using LS-DYNA. The fall impact simulation was carried out by using rectangular pendulum and cylinder pendulum. Optimal stacking section was determined by comparing and analyzing the impact simulation results.
The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission(TRMM) Satellite was launched in November 1997, carving into orbit the first space-borne Precipitation Radar(PR). The main objective of the TRMM is to obtain and study multi-year science data sets of tropical and subtropical rainfall measurements. In the present investigation, the characteristics of heavy rainfall cases over Korea in 1998 and 1999 are analyzed using the TRMM/PR dat3. We compare the rainrate measured from TRMM/PR with the accumulated rainfall data for 10 minutes tv Automatic Weather System(AWS). Especially, horizontal cross-section of rainrate with height and longitude in the precipitating clouds are investigated. As a result of the comparison with GMS-5 IR1, the TRMM/PR data delineate well the rain type( i.e. convective, stratiform cloud and others), height of storm top and instantaneous rainrate in the precipitating clouds. The vertical structure with height and horizontal cross-section of rainrate along the longitude show the orographic effect on the rainfall. TRMM/PR instrument measures the rainrate below 6 ㎜/hr more than AWS rainguages and inclined to underestimate the rainrate than rainguages for the whole area.
Aiming at the wind-resistant design of a sea-crossing arch bridge, the static aerodynamic coefficients of its girder (composed of stretches of π-shaped cross-section and box cross-section) were studied by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical simulation and wind tunnel test. Based on the comparison between numerical simulation, wind tunnel test and specification recommendation, a combined calculation method for the horizontal force coefficient of intermediate and small span bridges is proposed. The results show that the two-dimensional CFD numerical simulations of the individual cross sections are sufficient to meet the accuracy requirements of engineering practice.
