  • Purpose: This systematic review aimed to investigate the effectiveness of home visiting programs targeting parents who have maltreated their children on the prevention of child maltreatment recurrence. Methods: Major databases were searched (Ovid-Medline, PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, and RISS). The frequency of maltreatment was measured for the meta-analysis, which was conducted using Review Manager 5.2 software. The effect size was measured using odds ratios (ORs). Results: Six studies were included in the analysis, none of which were conducted in South Korea. The meta-analysis demonstrated that the risk of child maltreatment recurrence significantly decreased after a home visiting program was implemented (OR=0.45, 95% confidence interval [CI]=0.29-0.68). Nurses were the most common intervention providers. Conclusion: Home visiting programs should be provided for families in which maltreatment has already occurred to prevent the recurrence of maltreatment and foster a home environment in which children can live safely. Since the rate of child maltreatment in Korea is increasing, further research is needed to develop and implement home visiting programs in which nurses play a major role in preventing the recurrence of child maltreatment.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore relationships between family of origin and youth transitioning from out-of-home care. Data were collected from six youths transitioning from out-of-home care and were analyzed using the phenomenological approach. The results of this study were as follows. Four categories and twelve subcategories were drawn from the meaning units. The four categories were 'chaos in separation', 're-established relations but with distance', 'completely ended relationships with the family of origin', and 'redrawing family boundaries'. First, the participants who were separated from their parents due to poverty or divorce reunited with their parents, and they appeared to continue their relationships with the family of origin after transitioning from out-of-home care. The youth were receiving various forms of support from their parents in order to be independent, and they were experiencing stable independence through this support. Second, the participants who were separated from their parents due to serious child abuse or parental death had broken relationships with their parents. The youth were independent and relied on new alternative relationships that were not with the family of origin, but they experienced somewhat unstable self-reliance. In short, participants' relationships with families of origin in this study can be defined as a tight rope between love and hate. Based on these results, child welfare practice and policy implications were discussed to help out-of-home care youth's relationship with their family of origin.

First, emotional intelligence showed significant difference and relationship among the children variables, home environment variables, and peer group environment variable. (Ed- also note the absence of 'fourth' above) Second, emotional intelligence in children was relatively reviewed by the above three variables and the most affecting variable was self-efficacy in children.

Students' stressors showed partially significant differences in only home environment and family stressors according to demographic variables. That is, home environment stressors differed in educational level of parents, mother's employment, family type, level of living, and students' growing place except mother's employment. • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to explore and describe the experience of adult Korean children who are caregivers for parents institutionalized with dementia. Methods: Participants were fourteen adult children caregivers of elders institutionalized with dementia. Data were collected through in-depth unstructured interviews with individual participants from August to November, 2012. Theoretical sampling was used to the point of theoretical saturation. Data were analyzed using Strauss and Corbin's Grounded Theory Method. Results: From open coding, 67 concepts, 29 sub-categories, and 14 categories were identified. Analysis revealed that the core category of the experience of adult children caring for their parents institutionalized with dementia was 'enduring the role of a prop' consisting of four phases: initial turmoil, exploration, role adjustment, and acclimation. To manage the role of a prop, participants utilized various action/interactional strategies such as overcoming the unfamiliarity, overseeing the nursing home care, and counterbalancing the caring roles. As a result, participants experienced ambivalence towards the existence of parents with dementia, changes in family relationships, altered viewpoint towards nursing homes, and restructuring of life. Conclusion: In-depth understanding of the experience will guide nurses to promote effective interventions in order to better support the Korean family caregivers of parents institutionalized with dementia.

The data were collected from 385 male and female high school students in Seoul through the questionnaire method. The major result of the study were as follows: 1. About sixty percents of the respondents came from middle-class families who were being brought up by their parents. 2. Analysis of data revealed that degrees of relationship of the respondents with their parents and peer were higher than moderate, while the degrees of relationship with teacher was found to be moderate. 3. The adolescent' overall level of school adjustment was found to be at a moderate level. 4. The adolescents' levels of school adjustment were differed by birth order, father's occupations, family structures, economic status of the family, grade point average and religion. 5. The stepwise regression analyses yielded the results that relationship with the teacher, relationship with the peer, father's caring, birth order and economic status of family were significant factors in explaining the adolescents' school adjustment. On the base of the results of the study, the following suggestions were made in order to enhance adolescents' school adjustment: 1. Teacher education focused on guidance and counseling should be included in the teacher education and training program. 2. Parents education focused on fatherhood should be more emphasized.
