The Satisfaction with the Showrooms of the Total Interior Brands applied on Experience Design - Focused on the Showrooms Managed by Domestic Building Material Companies - (경험디자인이 적용된 토탈 인테리어 브랜드의 쇼룸 만족도 - 국내 건자재 기업들이 운영하는 쇼룸을 중심으로 -)

  • The home interior market has been expanding due to the continuing increase of single-person households, the craze for DIY interior design, the increasing demands for old-house renovation and the customer needs for good housing conditions. Now the building materials companies are scrambling for the whole interior market share. The heretofore companies have focused only on the single items, but now they are promoting the comprehensive interior products as total interior brands. Besides, they use their own showrooms to share their brand culture experience and have communication with their customers. As for the show rooms, they have got to represent the identities of the building materials brands. And to present them effectively, it needs to meet the customer needs and emotions. In this connection, the object of this study is to clarify the definitions and the characteristics of the show rooms and the experience design through the literature research, analysis the space characteristics of the experience design in the show rooms of total interior brands, investigate their customer satisfaction and present the direction and the effective methods of the space design for the show rooms of the future. And the study result shows the experience design is the key factor to the high user satisfaction. Thus, the show rooms should provide the well-balanced experience with the adoption of a variety of experience design elements. Especially, the experience design elements are needed in the room to display the merchandise. Lastly, the show rooms are expected to increase constantly, so the study targeted at the specific area, Seoul should be expanded to other areas. And this study based on the customer survey alone have a limit to giving the concrete proposals. Therefore, the follow-up studies with the different methods such as one-to-one interview will be in demand.

Elderly response to alteration of existing house function in housing improvement area (주거지 재생지역의 기존주택 기능전환에 대한 노인의 반응연구)

  • As an aging population has increased vastly and nuclear families have been a dominating family type in modern Korean society, the numbers of the elderly who suffer Empty Nest Syndrome and LID (Loss Isolation Depression) syndrome have been accelerated. These syndromes involve psychological instability, melancholy, and lethargy. To make the elderly get out of this phenomenon and live actively, the scheme of converting their existing house into shared housing was set as a hypothetical solution in this study. This study sets out to find out responses of the elderly to alter their own house's function in housing improvement area. A Small Workshop Panel method was used and the elderly aged 55 years upwards took part and they own a detached house in a housing improvement area that is relatively large for the elderly or the elderly couple to live alone. Through the workshop, problems that the elderly have been experiencing within their houses were looked into and responses of the elderly on altering their house to shared housing by introducing developed schematic plans. Although, the first response was negative, positive responses from the house owners were carried out when a visual support i.e. developed shared housing plan was provided. The positive response was based on the fact that subsidies from the government on house renovation and tenants matching programs are supported as shared housing could provide home owners economical support with rents and help them to feel less lonely. This is a way of relieving the elderly from being neglected and supporting them to live and age actively in their later lives. Furthermore, by providing a visual media to the elder residents in housing improvement area, their greater understandings on the development and addressing their opinions were possible. Therefore, more tools that promote elder residents' participation are needed for future housing improvement projects and an aging society.

Multicentre Hospital-based Case-control Study of Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma in Shanghai, China

  • Background: Several potential risk factors have been identified for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL); however, epidemiological studies investigating the association between these risk factors and DLBCL have yielded inconsistent results. Objectives: To investigate potential medical, lifestyle, and environmental risk factors of DLBCL in Shanghai, China through a hospital-based case-control study. Method: One-hundred-and-forty-seven newly diagnosed DLBCL patients and 294 sex- and age-matched controls were recruited from 11 hospitals in Shanghai between 2003 and 2007. A standardized structured questionnaire was used to obtain patient data on demographics, medical history, family history, lifestyle, and environmental exposures. Conditional logistic regression models were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), for risk associated with each data category. Results: History of tuberculosis (TB) infection and "living on a farm" were positively associated with DLBCL (TB: OR=3.05, 95% CI: 1.19-7.80; farm: OR=1.82, 95% CI: 1.21-2.73). In contrast, taking traditional Chinese medicine was negatively associated with DLBCL (OR=0.36, 95% CI: 0.14-0.89). No significant correlation with DLBCL risk was found for any of the other potential risk factors (p>0.05), including but not limited to hair dyes, alcohol drinking, smoking, and home/workplace renovation within one year. Conclusions: Consistent with results from previous studies in other DLBCL case populations, traditional Chinese medicine appeared to have a direct or indirect protective effect against DLBCL. However, this study also identified a possible predisposition for DLBCL in TB sufferers and farmers.

  • This paper proposes renovation guidelines for impaired persons' facilities in Chungcheongnam-Do by reviewing the conditions of the facilities based on the standard and deinstitutionalization trends in foreign facilities. The facilities were located far from the downtown of cities. Therefore, education and adaptation programs are necessary for these people to return to society. Recombining the rooms for a living room-oriented unit considering the structure system of the facilities allows good adaptation to home-based living conditions for impaired people. The area per person will be increases by renovations to a living room-oriented unit that makes upgrades to near foreign standards, such as The USA and The UK.

Development of a Face Detection and Recognition System Using a RaspberryPi (라즈베리파이를 이용한 얼굴검출 및 인식 시스템 개발)

  • IoT is a new emerging technology to lead the $4^{th}$ industry renovation and has been widely used in industry and home to increase the quality of human being. In this paper, IoT based face detection and recognition system for a smart elevator is developed. Haar cascade classifier is used in a face detection system and a proposed PCA algorithm written in Python in the face recognition system is implemented to reduce the execution time and calculates the eigenfaces. SVM or Euclidean metric is used to recognize the faces detected in the face detection system. The proposed system runs on RaspberryPi 3. 200 sample images in ORL face database are used for training and 200 samples for testing. The simulation results show that the recognition rate is over 93% for PP+EU and over 96% for PP+SVM. The execution times of the proposed PCA and the conventional PCA are 0.11sec and 1.1sec respectively, so the proposed PCA is much faster than the conventional one. The proposed system can be suitable for an elevator monitoring system, real time home security system, etc.

A Comparative Study of Housing Culture of Korean Immigrants through Analysis of Living Arrangement in Australia and Canada (해외거주 한인의 주공간 사용 및 주생활 분석을 통해 본 주거문화의 비교 고찰 - 호주(Australia)와 캐나다(Canada)를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide information about domestic living of Korean immigrants in Australia and Canada who have the same cultural background for comparative study. For this, usage of domestic space and living style in housing of 52 Korean households in Melbourne of Australia and 32 Korean households in the region of Waterloo of Canada were analyzed. Ethnographic research with questionnaire were used. Results of the research were as follows. 1. Korean immigrants in each countries were living in houses which was built by company of Australia and Canada. 44.2% of Korean immigrants in Australia were using L+D K and 53.1% of Korean immigrants in Canada were using L D K. 2. Laundry was indispensable for Korean immigrants in both countries and they all wanted to use the laundry as a utility room which could dry, ironing and so on. 3. Drain hole on the floor of the bathroom was not indispensable for most Korean immigrants in both countries for hygienic reason. 4. Korean immigrants in both countries were ironing in master bedroom and they all wanted to separate it from there through renovation and extension and so on. 5. Korean immigrants in Canada were more active to use the formal lounge which has been planned as a traditional element of western house. 6. The seating style of Korean immigrants in both countries belong to chair-seating style mostly. But it was clear that they were making Kimchi with floor seating style in both countries. 7. A level of satisfaction about using carpet was not high for Korean immigrants in both countries cause of uneasiness to clean and it was considered to relate to the floor seating style of them. 8. Almost Korean immigrants were took off the shoes inside of the house and they had shoes cabinet beside the entrance or basement usually. 9. The most popular heating system was ducted heating in both countries. The level of satisfaction about this was different for Korean immigrants in Australia and Canada but most desirable heating system was Ondol for them in both countries commonly.

Assessment of the Child Care Centers' Foodservice Facility and Development of the Kitchen Facility Model based on the General Sanitation Standards and Guidelines (영유아 보육시설의 조리실 시설 현황 조사 및 조리실 시설 설계 기준안 개발)

  • The purposes of this study were to assess the child care centers' foodservice facility, and to develop the kitchen facility model based on the general sanitation standards and guidelines in order to provide basic information for a plan review to build or renovate child care centers' foodservice facility. The scopes of the study include : 1) field assessment of the foodservice management practices and facilities in 8 public child care centers, and 2 private child care centers which they are subsidized from the government as public child care centers, 2) development of child care centers' kitchen facility model based on the General Sanitation Standards and Guidelines. The results of this study can be summarized as follows : 1. Field Assessment of the Child Care Centers' Foodservice Facility Average number of children in child care centers was 78.0$\pm$24.20, the average space of kitchen was 15.13$\pm$4.25($m^2$). Especially, the average space of kitchen was 18.49$\pm$4.35($m^2$) with enrollment capacity of 90~120 children in child care centers. The inventory level of most foods was relatively low except rice and kimchi. Kitchen facilities and equipments were similar to those of home kitchen and did not meet the standards of institutional practice. Therefore, the director in child care centers should recognize the importance of the sanitation management and pay more attention to the renovation of foodservice facilities as well as sanitation management practices. 2. Development of the Kitchen Facility Model based on the General Sanitation Standards and Guidelines The kitchen facility plan model with enrollment capacity of 100 children was developed based on the results of field assessment and literature review. Suggested kitchen space was 34.16$m^2$(6,100mm×5,600mm). This space was bigger than the results of field survey or precedent study, considered appropriate to implement the general sanitation standards. The main feature of the developed kitchen facility plan and model was product flow in one direction from the arrival of the raw material to the finished product in order to prevent cross contamination and to improve working efficiency.

The Changes and Present Status of Education in Clothing Departments at Vocational High Schools (전문계 고등학교 의상과 교육과정에서의 교육목표 및 내용에 관한 연구)

  • This research investigates the historical changes of the educational system for the clothing departments at vocational high schools. According to the growth of the fashion industry, employment potential in the clothing departments of the vocational high schools, numerical changes in the educational statistics, and curriculums were investigated by papers, reports, and statistic data. The statistic data were derived from the 'Center Educational Statistics and Information', 'School Information' (Hak-gyo Alimi), 'Korean Statistical Information Services' and internet home pages of vocational high schools. Technical service workers that graduate from clothing departments and vocational high schools have limited competitiveness in a thriving fashion industry field. Highly developed fashion industries require more professional workers in fashion design, fashion marketing, and fashion materials. Compared to 1994, when 35 classes were conducted in 5 vocational high schools, 69 classes are now conducted at 15 schools. They have over 2,000 students and produce over 600 graduates. However, 222 credits of the $1^{st}$ curriculum in 1958 went down to 82 credits in the 2007 revised curriculum to complete the credits of clothing departments. The 15 courses of the 1st curriculum fell to 5 courses in the 2007 revised curriculum on the number of major subjects. It is a fundamental problem that major courses in clothing education have been excessively reduced despite the demand for of highly specialized workers in the fashion industry. In the view of operating conditions of those schools, there were several problems such as the wide gaps in the curriculum, limited equipment, the supply of teachers, and counseling on the choice of college or a career. In conclusion, the following measures are required: 1) the increase of complement credits in major subjects and renovation of curriculum, 2) national substantial support to change the social circumstance concerning vocational education and occupational consciousness, 3) operation of credit approving systems in universities and colleges for students that have completed the same courses at vocational high schools, 4) designing realistic programs for vocational education and cooperation systems with corporate enterprises.

A Study on the Franchise identity design (프랜차이즈 아이덴티티 디자인에 관한 연구)

  • CIP, or Corporate Identity Program is a program to standardize, conforming to a set of regulations, various visual media which form a corporate environment based on the concepts drawn from the corporate strategies in order to actively create a planned but ideal corporate image. However, both the recent corporate renovation and the emergence of a new type of corporations prompted by a rapid change in an corporate environment caused the existing corporate concepts to be adapted to such a change. Particularly various visual media related to a corporate image are getting digitalized, and the emergence of a new and varied type of visual media give rise to a new pattern of the identity design accommodating such changes. It may be improper and insufficient for the existing CIP to be applied on the franchising business which is considered most suitable for the new corporate environment. Business firm's office work has long been operated in an computing environment where the computer does all the work, and an individual home as well as small business began widely using the computer. It may therefore be necessary that the corporate identity design for the franchising business should include not only the use of visual media but new, ultramodern information media as well, departing from the CIP heavily centered on the usual print media. This study, for this reason, separates the identity design for the franchising business from the existing CIP to call it FIP, or Franchise Identity Program, and discusses its concept and details.
