Retrieving Angle Searching Method using Pre-scan for Holographic Data Storage (홀로그래픽 정보저장기기의 Pre-scan을 이용한 재생광의 각도 탐색 방법)

  • In retrieving process in angle multiplexing Holographic Data Storage(HDS), It is important to search the exact recording angles. In this paper, we propose the retrieving angle searching method using pre-scan. Pre-scan method is means that rotating the galvano mirror before the retrieving process. Therefore, retrieving signals are maximized when between the galvano mirror and recoded angle are exactly matched. Through the measured signals, we will find the exact angle and compensate tangential tilt angle. The experimental results shows propose method is enough to apply the HDS.

2-step Quadrature Phase-shifting Digital Holographic Optical Encryption using Orthogonal Polarization and Error Analysis

  • In this paper, a new 2-step quadrature phase-shifting digital holographic optical encryption method using orthogonal polarization is proposed and tolerance errors for this method are analyzed. Unlike the conventional technique using a PZT mirror, the proposed optical setup comprises two input and output polarizers, and one ${\lambda}$/4-plate retarder. This method makes it easier to get a phase shift of ${\pi}$/2 without using a mechanically driven PZT device for phase-shifting and it simplifies the 2-step phase-shifting Mach-Zehnder interferometer setup for optical encryption. The decryption performance and tolerance error analysis for the proposed method are presented. Computer experiments show that the proposed method is an alternate candidate for 2-step quadrature phase-shifting digital holographic optical encryption applications.

Rough surface characterization using off-axis digital holographic microscopy compensated with self-hologram rotation

  • In this paper, an off-axis digital holographic microscopy compensated with self-hologram rotation is presented. The process is implemented via subtracting the unwrapped phase maps of the off-axis parabolic hologram and its rotation $180^{\circ}$ to eliminate the tilt induced by the angle between the spherical object wave O and the plane reference wave R. Merit of the proposed method is that it can be done without prior knowledge of physical parameters and hence can reconstruct a parabolic hologram of $1024{\times}768$ pixels within tens of milliseconds since it doesn't require a digital reference wave. The method is applied to characterize rough gold bumps and the obtained results were compared with those extracted from the conventional reconstruction method. The comparison showed that the proposed method can characterize rough surfaces with excellent contrast and in realtime. Merit of the proposed method is that it can be used for monitoring smaller biological cells and micro-fluidic devices.

Holographic setereograms using spatial light modulator (공간 광 변조기를 이용한 홀로그래픽 스테레오그램의 제작)

  • Holographic stereograms were made using a geometrical method easily. Becausethe conventioal sampling metod which is used in cylinder type stereograms, divide the anales of the object so it can't offer a binocular parallax effect very well, and it is also difficult to afficult to apply to the plane type stereograms. In this paper, holographic stereograms were made by use of a new method for the calculation of the sampling number(here, sampliing angles), and the TFT LCD. In order to calculate the sampling angles, geometrical method was used and 2-D images were projected onto diffuser screen through TFT LCD. Result stereorgrams which aremade by a sampling method proposed in this ppaer give a accurate binocular parallax and have a sufficient viewing zone and show that it is possible to make 3-D movies.

  • In this paper, we experimentally investigated compensation method of the mechanical errors for the micro holographic storage. The aim of this research was overcome of disc tilt and spherical aberration problems. The proposed method was performed by using glass plate and zoom optics.

  • Conventional measurement methods using ultrasonic wave or x-ray, eddy current for non-destructive testing(NDT) in nuclear power plants and other industrial plants have been performed as the method of contact with objects to be inspected. With this reason these methods have been taken relatively much time and the inspected area is limited by the location of probe or film. But holographic interferometry which is a non-contact optical measurement method using a coherent light source has an advantage that the quantitative measurement can be performed at a time. In this paper a new method using holographic interferometry and image processing for detecting internal flaws of pressure vessels is presented.

  • Holographic data storage system is one of next generation high density optical memories. Thereby storing multiple data pages using multiplexing method in one spot, we can achieve high store density and fast access time. However, for uniform writing, we must control exposure time properly by the change of writing material characteristics. Many studies have been investigated about exposure time scheduling. However, once it is decided, we cannot change the scheduled time. Therefore, it is hard to obtain uniform data intensity. In this study, we propose exposure time control method using additional red beam as the monitoring signal. Through reconstructed red beam intensity in real time, we can adjust exposure time by the writing condition change. We construct compensation method mathematically and verify the feasibility of proposed method through the experiments.

  • In this paper, we investigate the polarization multiplexing for micro holographic storage. The proposed multiplexing method is performed by using crystal media that use photorefractive materials such as Fe-doped $LiNbO_3$. We discuss the feasibility of fast recording, high capacity and transfer rate for polarization multiplexing method. Finally, we experimentally verify the proposed method using polarization selectivity.

  • Estimation and collection of the suitable recording materials are important for the fabrication of the holographic optical elements. In this study, silver halide emulsion, photoresist and dichromated gelatin are selected as a recording materials to investigate the properties and processing methods. Some parameters which affect the diffraction efficiencies of the holographic optical elements (HOE) are presented. As an example of the HOE, the results of design and the fabrication method of the off axis 12P hologram lens are also presented.

  • Atrains in microstain range are measured accurately by means of holographic interometric technique. Holographic fringes of the cantilever beam subjected to out-of-plane deflection and in-plane deflection respectively are obtained experimentally. Form these fringe patterns, 3rd order polynomial of displacements is induced using polynomial regression method. And strain stress distribution could be determined from the secound derivative of this polynomial. These results agree well with FEM.
