The Syntheses, Characterizations, and Photocatalytic Activities of Silver, Platinum, and Gold Doped TiO2 Nanoparticles

  • Different weight percentages of Ag, Pt, and Au doped nano $TiO_2$ were synthesized using the acetic acid hydrolyzed sol-gel method. The crystallite phase, surface morphology combined with elemental composition and light absorption properties of the doped nano $TiO_2$ were comprehensively examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), $N_2$ sorption analysis, transmission electron microscopic (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray, and DRS UV-vis analysis. The doping of noble metals stabilized the anatase phase, without conversion to rutile phase. The formation of gold nano particles in Au doped nano $TiO_2$ was confirmed from the XRD patterns for gold. The specific surface area was found to be in the range 50 to 85 $m^2$/g. TEM images confirmed the formation a hexagonal plate like morphology of nano $TiO_2$. The photocatalytic activity of doped nano $TiO_2$ was evaluated using 4-chlorophenol as the model pollutant. Au doped (0.5 wt %) nano $TiO_2$ was found to exhibit higher photocatalytic activity than the other noble metal doped nano $TiO_2$, pure nano $TiO_2$ and commercial $TiO_2$ (Degussa P-25). This enhanced photocatalytic activity was due to the cathodic influence of gold in suppressing the electron-hole recombination during the reaction.

Microfabrication of Submicron-size Hole on the Silicon Substrate using ICP etching

  • The varous techniques for fabrication of si or metal tip as a field emission electron source have been reported due to great potential capabilities of flat panel display application. In this report, 240nm thermal oxide was initially grown at the p-type (100) (5-25 ohm-cm) 4 inch Si wafer and 310nm Si3N4 thin layer was deposited using low pressure chemical vapor deposition technique(LPCVD). The 2 micron size dot array was photolithographically patterned. The KOH anisotropic etching of the silicon substrate was utilized to provide V-groove formation. After formation of the V-groove shape, dry oxidation at 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 600 minutes was followed. In this procedure, the orientation dependent oxide growth was performed to have a etch-mask for dry etching. The thicknesses of the grown oxides on the (111) surface and on the (100) etch stop surface were found to be ~330nm and ~90nm, respectively. The reactive ion etching by 100 watt, 9 mtorr, 40 sccm Cl2 feed gas using inductively coupled plasma (ICP) system was performed in order to etch ~90nm SiO layer on the bottom of the etch stop and to etch the Si layer on the bottom. The 300 watt RF power was connected to the substrate in order to supply ~(-500)eV. The negative ion energy would enhance the directional anisotropic etching of the Cl2 RIE. After etching, remaining thickness of the oxide on the (111) was measured to be ~130nm by scanning electron microscopy.

최근 천문학 연구 키워드와 천체 분야 교육과정 내용 요소 비교 분석 (A Comparative Analysis of Keywords in Astronomical Journals and Concepts in Secondary School Astronomy Curriculum)

  • 힉스입자 발견, 블랙홀 이미지 촬영, 외계행성 탐사, 깊은 우주탐사, 중력파 관측 등 최근 천문학은 매우 빠르게 성장하고 있으며, 학생들도 상대적으로 흥미가 높은 분야이다. 본 연구의 목적은 최근 10년간 천문학 연구 저널에서 높은 빈도로 등장한 키워드들과 중고등학교 과학 교육과정에 포함된 천문학 내용 요소를 7개 영역별로 비교하여 천문학 교육과정 개선에 대한 시사점을 얻는 것이다. 우선 선정된 4개 저널-ApJ, ApJL, A&A, MNRAS-에 2011년부터 2020년까지 게재된 모든 논문의 키워드를 R 패키지로 수집하여 연구 동향을 살펴보았다. 교육과정 내용 요소는 7학년부터 12학년 학생이 배우는 과목 중 천문학 내용 요소가 포함된 6개 과목(과학, 통합과학, 지구과학I, 지구과학II, 물리II, 융합과학)의 2015 개정 교육과정 문서에 제시된 내용 체계표, 성취기준, 성취기준해설을 현직 교사들이 코딩한 결과를 종합하여 추출하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 천문학에서 꾸준하게 많이 등장하는 키워드는 'galaxies: formation, galaxies: active, star: formation, accretion, accretion discs, method: numerical'이다. 둘째, 천문학 교육과정은 모든 학생이 배우는 공통 과학 과목 안에서 'High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena' 영역을 제외한 모든 영역을 포함하도록 구성되었으나 키워드 수준에서 보면 과목별, 학년별 내용 요소 배치와 새롭게 도입할 만한 주제에 대한 검토가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 과목의 근간을 이루는 과학연구 분야와 교육과정을 비교한 탐색적 연구로서, 연구 결과는 향후 천문학 교육과정 개정에 시사점을 줄 수 있는 기초 연구가 되길 기대한다.

Environmental dependence of AGN activity in the SDSS main galaxy sample

  • We investigate the role of small-scale and large-scale environments in triggering nuclear activity of the local galaxies using a volume-limited sample with $M_r$ < -19.5 and 0.02 < z < 0.0685 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7. To fix the mass of the supermassive black hole in its host galaxy, we limit the central velocity dispersion of the sample galaxies. The active galactic nuclei (AGN) host sample is composed of Type II AGNs identified with flux ratios of narrow emission lines with S/N > 6. In this study, we find that the AGN fraction of late-type host galaxies are commonly larger than of early type galaxies. The AGN fraction of host galaxy with late-type nearest neighbor starts to increase as the host galaxy approaches the virial radius of the nearest neighbor (about a few hundred kpc scale). Our result may support the idea that the hydrodynamic interaction with the nearest neighbor plays an important role in triggering the nuclear activity of galaxy. The early-type galaxies in high density regions show decline of AGN activity compared to ones in lower density regions, whereas the direction of the environmental dependence of AGN activity for late-type galaxies is rather opposite. We also find that the environmental dependence of star formation rate is analogous to one of AGN activity except in the high density region.

Dry oxidation of Germanium through a capping layer

  • Ge is a promising candidate to replace Si in MOSFET because of its superior carrier mobility, particular that of the hole. However Ge oxide is thermodynamically unstable. At elevated temperature, GeO is formed at the interface of Ge and GeO2, and its formation increases the interface defect density, degrading its device performance. In search for a method to surmount the problem, we investigated Ge oxidation through an inert capped oxide layer. For this work, we prepared low doped n-type Ge(100) wafer by removing native oxide and depositing a capping layer, and show that GeO2 interface can be successfully grown through the capping layer by thermal oxidation in a furnace. The thickness and quality of thus grown GeO2 interface was examined by ellipsometry, XPS, and AFM, along with I-V and C-V measurements performed at 100K to 300K. We will present the result of our investigation, and provide the discussion on the oxide growth rate, interface state density and electrical characteristics in comparison with other studies using the direct oxidation method.

NH3 분위기에서 후속 열처리에 의한 p형 ZnO 형성 (Formation of N Doped, p-type ZnO Films by Post-annealing in NH3 Ambient)

  • We report the preparation of N doped, p-type ZnO films by post-annealing in $NH_3$ ambient. The properties were examined by XRD, Hall-effect measurement, PL, and SIMS. ZnO films showed better crystallinity and electron concentration of $10^{15}-10^{17}/cm^3$ with post-annealing in $NH_3$ ambient. These films were converted to p-type ZnO by activation thermal annealing process at $800^{\circ}C$ under $N_2$ ambient. The electrical properties of the p-type ZnO showed a hole concentration of $1.06\times10^{16}/cm^3$, a mobility of $15.8cm^2/V{\cdot}s$, and a resistivity of $40.18\Omega{\cdot}cm$. The N doped ZnO films showed a strong photoluminescence peak at 3.306 eV at 13 K, which is closely related to neutral acceptor bound excitons of the p-type ZnO:N. In the SIMS spectra, the incorporation of nitrogen was confirmed.

The suture bridge transosseous equivalent technique for Bony Bankart lesion

  • In order to improve static stability and healing of reattached labrum, we combined the advantages of suture bridge and transosseous technique. Using the conventional 3 portal for anterior instability, check stability of bony Bankart and preparation of glenoid bed in 3 way including removal, reshaping or mobilization of bony fragment. Two anchors were inserted to the superior and inferior portion and medial edge of bony Bankart lesion. It usually corresponded to the area of IGHL. Medial mattress sutures were applied around IGHL complex to get enough depth of glenoid coverage using suture hook. Make 3.5mm pushlock anchor hole to the articular edge of glenoid cartilage. Proximal suture bridge was applied at first and then distal suture bridge was inserted to mobilize the labrum in proximal direction. These construction can provide more stable labral repair with wide contact and compression in case of deficient bony stability. It not only avoids technical disadvantage of point contact with anchor fixation, but also decreasing gap formation through cross compression of labrum that couldn't gain even with the transosseous fixation which affords linear compression effect. Additional bony stability could be gained if the the bony fragment was mobilized to the glenoid margin with potential healing bed or reshaped for the good contact with reattached labrum.

Fe 오염에 따른 Si내의 deep level거동에 관한 연구 (The Study of Deep Level Behaviors in Si Contaminated by Iron)

  • Fe 강제오염된 p-Si에서 여러 가지 quenching 조건에 기인한 에너지 준위들을 deep level transient spectroscopy(DLTS)를 이용하여 측정하였으며, 또한 선택 에칭방법/Optical microscope을 이용한 BMD(bulk micro-defeat)측정을 통하여 Fe 침전물 형서에, Fe 확산을 위한 어닐링 후 Cooling 조건이 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. Cooling 조건들이 여러 종류의 hole trap과 bulk micro-defeat(BMD)형성에 영햐을 주는 것으로 나타났으며, normal cooling의 경우 $\textrm{Fe}_{i}$, 또는 Fe-O complex 와 관계있는 $\textrm{T}_{1},\;\textrm{T}_{2},\;\textrm{T}_{3},\;\textrm{T}_{4}$ trap이 나타났으며, Slow Cooling 의 영향으로 인하여 활성화 에너지가 0.4eV에 해당하는 trap들이 관찰되었다. 또한 $\textrm{Fe}^{+}\textrm{}^{-}$ pair(H4: 0.56eV)는 $\textrm{LN}_{2}$ quenching한 경우에서만 나타났다.

가솔린 직접분사용 다공형 인젝터의 분무특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Spray Characteristics of Gasoline Direct Injection Multi-hole Injector)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 경제적이고, 친환경적인 가솔린 직접 분사 인젝터의 분무특성을 연구하는 것에 있다. 분무도달거리, 분무각 그리고 혼합기 형성과 같은 인젝터의 특성을 가시화 실험을 통하여 측정하였다. 특히 분무압력과 분위기압력이 분무 침투거리와 분무각에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 가시화 실험을 위하여 정적 연소실과 연료 공급장치를 제작하였다. 초고속 카메라와 LED광원을 이용하여 분무형상을 촬영하였고, 촬영된 영상으로 분무 특성을 분석하였다. 연소실내의 분위기압력이 감소하고, 연료의 분무압력이 증가할수록 도달거리는 증가하였다. 분위기압력과 분무압력에 대해 분무각의 변화는 미소하지만, 분위기압력이 분무각에 더 큰 영향을 미치고 있다.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe the micromorphological changes in Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora S. et Z.) wood decayed by a major brown-rot fungus, Lentinus lepideus, using scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. At the end of the 12-week exposure to the fungus in soil block procedure(ASTM 1971), test blocks sustained 5.02% weight loss. The formation of bore hole by hyphae and penetration of hyphae through bordered pit were not observed. Instead, fungal hyphae appeared to penetrate axially tracheid luminar from the the ray cells via cross field pits. Hyphae were mainly found in lignin rich cell corner regions of tracheids, and also extensive degradation of tracheid wall occurred in this region. Extensive degradation of $S_2$ layer occurred without noticeable alteration of the $S_3$ layer, but warty layer and compound middle lamella remained relatively intact. Localized erosion, the characteristic of white rot, was observed in some cell wall and wall components including lignin were found to be decomposed.
