  • A 6-year-old female, shih-tzu was presented in the February with bilateral, symmetrical hair loss and hyperpigmentation on caudal dorsolumbar region. Skin test and blood examination found no remarkable finding. Histopathological examination of biopsies from the alopecic lesions revealed follicular atrophy, infundibular hyperkeratosis and some follicles were twisted truncated and dilated. The diagnosis of recurrent flank alopecia was based on clinical signs and supportive histopathology. Treatment with oral melatonin was started at 3 mg twice daily for 80 days, and by this time complete hair regrowth was observed. The following year in the September, a small non-inflammatory alopecia developed in the same site. The dog was given oral melatonin at 3 mg twice daily for 4 weeks, hair had completely regrown.

  • Papillary cystadenocarcinoma is an uncommon ovarian neoplasm of domestic animals, with the possible exception of the bitch. In the horse ovary, it is rare as compared with benign epithelial tumors. This case reports the gross and histopathological finding of cystadenocarcinoma in a 10-year-old, clinically healthy Thoroughbred mare. (omitted)

  • Central neurocytoma is a rare, well-differentiated neuronal tumor and is usually located in the lateral or third ventricle of young adults. The occurrence of an intraventricular tumor with a characterisitic magnetic resonance image findings including isointense signal in T1-weighted images, the presence of a cystic component, small signal-void areas due to calcification, heterogenous and hyperintense "bubbly" appearance in T2-weighted images in a young patient should suggest preoperatively the diagnosis of central neurocytoma. The typical immunohistochemical finding, positivity for synaptophysin, is the main pathological feature. We experienced two cases of central neurocytomas with typical radiological and histopathological findings. We expect growth arrest of these cases by subtotal removal to avoid postoperative neurologic deficit followed by radiation therapy.

  • Pilocytic astrocytomas (PAs) are World Heath Organization Grade I tumors and are most common in children. PA calcification is not a common finding and has been reported more frequently in the optic nerve, hypothalamic/thalamus and superficially located cerebral tumors. We present a cerebellar PA in a 3-year-old male patient with cystic components and massive calcification areas. The residual tumor grew rapidly after the first operation, and the patient was operated on again. A histopathological examination revealed polar spongioblastoma-like cells. Massive calcification is not a common feature in PAs and can lead to difficulties in radiological and pathological differential diagnoses.

  • This paper dealt with histopathological observations of the nephroblastoma in the pregnant pig died on 8 days before paturation day. The results summarized as follows: Authors considered that in necropsy finding the pregnant pig died of circulative and respiratory disturbance by compression of fetus and renal tumor weighing about 12Kg. In microscopical findings of the renal tumor it was composed of well differentiated tumor cells and connective tissue elements. As differentiation of the neoplastic epithelial cells progressed, tubular and cystic structures, and papillary structures resembled to glomeruli appeared. This tumor was regarded as nephrohlastoma.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the cytotoxicity of orthodontic bands in vitro and in vivo4 types of orthodontic bands were applied to cultured fibroblast and the supernatants were injected into dorsal subcutaneous tissue of mice. In vitro.the cytotoxixity was evaluated by an MTT assay after 2 and 6days. In vivo, the histopathologic observation was performed 2 days after injection. The results were : 1. The cell viability was significantly decreased in the group added phosphoric acid in comparison to control group, but there was not any significance among the experimental group after 2 days. 2. Cell viability decreased in the high Ni containing group after 6 days. 3. The histopathological finding was that the Cr-containing group showed severe infiltration of inflammatory cells and muscular destruction.

  • The anatomical study of whole organ sections was used necessarily for understanding the histopathological anatomy, and routes of neoplastic spread. Ten whole-organ cancerous larynges were axially sectioned and its histopathologic findings were compared with the MRI findings. This study is designed to evaluate the anatomical relationships of the tumor to the laryngeal structure & possible spread of cancer of the larynx.

  • Angiokeratoma is a cutaneous vascular disorder that occurs at any sites as trunk, extremities, fingers and toes etc. Although solitary or multiple cutaneous lesions have been reported, oral lesions have been very care. A 72-year-old man who had an exophtic, essile mass with dark red, black colored which located on buccal mucosa, was treated with excisional biopsy. He had no specific systemic history except for the medication of allopurinol, for treatment of gout since 10 years. Final diagnosis was determined as angiokeratoma by evaluation of clinical and histopathological finding, and the lesion has not been recurred for two months by decrease of allopurinol. It has been emphasized that the relationship between oral mucosal disease and the complication of allopurinol. Allopurinol is widely used for gout treatment, which we will report a case on the allopurinol-associated angiokeratoma in the oral mucosa.

  • A 12-year-old dog was evaluated for depression and anorexia. The results of complete blood count and serum biochemistry were normal. Survey radiographs revealed markedly enlarged right kidney and abdominal ultrasound showed a renomegaly and hydronephrosis filled with mixed echogenic fluid. Primary renal tumor was suspected in this dog. Nephroureterectomy of the right kidney was performed, and no regional metastases have been identified. Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) arising from renal pelvis accompanied hydronephrosis of the right kidney was diagnosed on histology. TCC usually affects trigone of the bladder, and renal origin of TCC is a very rare finding in dogs. This is the first case report to present the clinical features, diagnostic imaging findings and histopathological characteristics of a dog with TCC originating from the renal pelvis in Korea.

  • We report a case of a 13-year-old girl who presented with a 2-month history of intermittent abdominal pain. Laboratory examination showed hepatitis and pancreatitis. Because of persistent vomiting, computed tomography (CT) was performed, which revealed a circumferential soft tissue density in the duodenal wall, causing partial obstruction. Supportive therapy failed. Repeat CT showed no significant change from the initial study. The patient underwent upper endoscopy, which revealed a mass in the second portion of the duodenum, which occluded most parts of the lumen. The histopathological finding was consistent with an anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a rare form of small bowel neoplasm. After the third course of chemotherapy, complete resolution of the mass was noted, and her symptoms were relieved.
