  • This paper covers stability and stabilization of Multi-Excited Induction Motor used in numberous electric equipment system of industrial field. The induction motor with multi-excitation has tow sets of three-phase system : One is connected to the AC source to supply most power required at the load, and the other is to the inverter for variable frequency and/or magnitude of voltage. The conventional induction motor is operated under single excitation mode only, that is called induction mode. But in multi-excited induction motor both the induction mode and the synchronous mode are possible, and the proposed multi-excited induction motor can be driven as a synchronous motor by the extra three-phase input. At the synchronous mode the efficiency is improved so higher than that at induction mode or conventional induction motor. The rating of the inverter used for speed control of numberous electric equipment system can be reduced upto one-tenth of that for conventional induction motor. Also the cost and maintenance fee of multi-excited induction motor can be reduced compared to any other motor.

  • The H.264/AVC standard developed by the joint Video Team (JVT) provides better coding efficiency than previous standards. The new emerging H.264/AVC employs variable block size motion estimation using multiple reference frame with 1/4-pel MV(Motion Vector) accuracy. These techniques are a important feature to accomplish higher coding efficiency. However, these techniques are increased overall computational complexity. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes advanced fast mode decision suited for variable block size by classifying inter mode based on Rate Distortion Optimization(RDO) technique. Proposed algorithm is going to use to implement H/W structure for fast mode decision. The experimental results shows that the proposed algorithm provides significant reduction computational complexity without any noticeable coding loss and additional computation. Entire computational complexity is decreased about 30%.

  • Cylindrical monopole antenna is one of most promising candidates for multi-band applications such as PCS, WLAN, DMB, and UWB wireless services. In this research, we demonstrate that there exist two types of current distributions according to the exciting frequency in a double band cylindrical monopole antenna, in which double resonance is achieved by adjusting the coupling structure of the antenna base. The operating modes of current distributions are identified from CST software simulations, the standing wave mode in a lower band and the traveling wave mode in a higher band. Also it is noticed that the mode behavior is quite similar to a helical antenna, a standing-wave (resonance) mode and a traveling-wave (non-resonance) mode according to the electrical dimensions of antenna. The effective ranges for operating modes and design formulas of the double band antenna are derived from simulation and measured results.

  • Low frequency sound propagation in a range-dependent shallow water environment of the Korea Strait has been studied by using the adiabatic coupled mode, ADIAB. The range-dependent environment is unique in terms of horizontal variations of sound velocity profiles, sediment thickness and attenuation coefficients and water depths. For shallow source and receiver depths, the most important mechanism involved in the propagation loss is the depth changing character of mode functions that strongly depends on the local sound velocity profile. Application of the adiabatic coupled mode theory to shallow water environment is reasonable when higher modes are attenuated due to bottom interaction effects. • Localized damage to a structure affects its dynamic properties, and much work has been undertaken investigating the variation of natural frequencies, damping ratios and mode shapes. This paper presents a technique based on wavelet transform to detect the existences and locations of structural damages. The procedure operates solely on the mode shape from the damaged structure, and does not require a priori knowledge of the undamaged structure. The procedure is developed using a 32-story shear building model. Applying wavelet transform to the mode shape successfully identifies the location of damage. The procedure is best suited to the mode shape obtained from the fundamental natural frequency. The wavelet coefficients from the higher mode shapes can be used to verify the location of damage, but they are not as sensitive as the wavelet coefficients of the lower mode shapes.

  • In IEEE 802.16j standard document, two modes about usage of RS are proposed; one is transparent mode to enhance data throughput and the other is non-transparent mode to extend coverage. In this paper, we focus on non-transparent mode and find that the mode also affects data throughput. We analyze data throughput on various RS topology and their extended coverage area in non-transparent mode. From the analysis, we see that higher throughput can be obtained when MR-BS and RS are located distantly.

  • In the present study, we report that the selection of operation mode is important to take the full advantage of nanofibrous membrane in enzyme immobilization. Silk fibroin nanofibrous membrane has been prepared by electrospinning, and a-chymotrypsin was immobilized as a model enzyme. When the immobilized enzyme was operated in the membrane reactor mode, the Michaelis constant, Km, was lower and the Vmax was higher compared to the batch reactor mode. No concentration gradient was observed in the membrane reactor mode and the immobilized enzyme was stable even after 7 times of re-use. Our results suggests that the enzyme immobilized nanofibrous membrane should be operated in the membrane reactor mode rather than in the bath reactor mode.

  • This paper present a new sort of multilayer piezoelectric ceramic transformer for the application to AC-adapters. This piezoelectric transformers operate in the second and third length extensional vibration mode. And the output performance of two types of piezoelectric transformers are compared by ANSYS, which is one of the FEM analysis program. As a result the minimum displacement was occurred at the two points in second length extensional vibration mode and three point in third length extensional vibration mode. One is the middle of input and the other is middle of output parts. And output voltage was inversely decreased by increasing number of output layers. Also The third mode type is shown higher power transition ratio than the second mode type.

  • This study is to analyze effect of exposure environment and mode of ASR on the engineering properties of synthetic lightweight aggregate concrete, such as dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity. The results of this study are summarized as foflows ; 1. The expansion rate of each exposure environment in 380$^{\circ}$C and NaCI 4% solution was shown higher than in 20$^{\circ}$C and normal water. The expansion rate of each exposure mode was largely shown in order of fjill immersion, wetting/drying, half immersion. 2. The dynamic modulus of elasticty and ultrasonic pulse velocity of each exposure environment in 38$^{\circ}$C and NaCl 4% solution was shown less than in 20$^{\circ}$C and normal water. The dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity of each exposure mode was shown smaller in order of full immersion, wetting/drying, half imersion.3. The relation between dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity was highly significant. The dynamic modulus of elasticity was increased with increase of ultrasonic pulse velocity. The decreasing rate of the dynamic modulus of elasticity was shown 2.1~3.4 times higher than the ultrasonic pulse velocity at each age, exposure environment and mode, respectively. 4. The expansion of each exposure environment and mode was increased with increase of curing age. The dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity of those concrete was increased with increase of curing age. At the curing age 28 days, the highest properties was showed at each type concrete, it was gradually decreased with increase of curing age. Specially, at the curing age 98 days of full immersion, the rate of expansion of type D was shown 3.95 times higher than the type A. But the dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity was decreased 17% and 8.3%.

  • In IEEE 802.16j MMR protocol, two modes about usage of RS are proposed; one is transparent mode to enhance data throughput and the other is non-transparent mode to extend coverage. In this paper, we focus on non-transparent mode and find that the mode can also improve data throughput. Therefore, we analyze data throughput on various RS topology and their extended coverage area by simulation in IEEE 802.16j non-transparent mode. We also compare the simulation results with the single MR-BS system of which coverage is extended by higher transmission power. From the comparisons of simulation results, we see that higher throughput can be obtained in the proposed non-transparent mode.
