  • The effect of spreading gain control on the throughput of a CDMA slotted ALOHA system is considered. Mobile users transmit packets over a shared channel, and the packets transmitted in the same time slot over the shared channel act as simultaneous access interference (SAI). When using spread-spectrum signal, a CDMA slotted ALOHA channel achieves high probability of capture due to the property of high title resolution, and the bit rate of user information is determined by spreading gain. When the SAI level gets larger, the high value of spreading gain enhances the packet throughput by increasing the probability of a successful packet transmission, while it degrades the of the effective throughput by reducing the user information bits carried within a packer. To solve the problem, we investigated the effect of the capture probability and the SAI level on these system throughputs, and evaluated the throughput performance of the system for each spreading gain control scheme. The results showed that the maximum effective throughput could be achieved with an unified method despite the variation of the SAI level by deriving an optimal value of the spreading gain according to 171e system states.

  • The study of molecular markers to improve crops largely depends on the availability of rapid and of efficient DNA extraction methods. Here we developed a cheap and convenient method to isolate genomic DNA from rice grains suitable for large-scale microsatellite analysis. We confirmed that the isolated rice DNA is suitable for PCR analysis with STS marker and SNP marker, as well as microsatellite marker. Further, we established high-throughput DNA extraction system in a 96-well plate format which make it possible high-throughput analysis of microsatellite markers with rice grains. This implies that the new method could be a useful tool for other types of marker analysis in large scale.

  • Previous papers analyzed the throughput performance of the CDMA ALOHA system in Rayleigh fading channel, but they assume that the channel coefficient of Rayleigh fading was the same in the whole packet, which is not realistic. We recently proposed the finite-state Markov channel (FSMC) model to the throughput analysis of DS uncoded CDMA/unslotted ALOHA networks for fixed length data traffic in the mobile environment. We now propose the FSMC model to the throughput analysis of coded DS CDMA/unslotted ALOHA networks with variable length data traffic and one or two user classes in the mobile environment. The proposed DS CDMA/unslotted ALOHA wireless networks for two user classes with access control can maintain maximum throughput for the high priority user class under high message arrival per packet duration.

  • Petascale systems(so called supercomputers) have been mainly used for supporting communication-intensive and tightly-coupled parallel computations based on message passing interfaces such as MPI(HPC: High-Performance Computing). On the other hand, computing paradigms such as High-Throughput Computing(HTC) mainly target compute-intensive (relatively low I/O requirements) applications consisting of many loosely-coupled tasks(there is no communication needed between them). In Korea, recently emerging applications from various scientific fields such as pharmaceutical domain, high-energy physics, and nuclear physics require a very large amount of computing power that cannot be supported by a single type of computing resources. In this paper, we present our HTCaaS(High-Throughput Computing as a Service) which can leverage national distributed computing resources in Korea to support these challenging HTC applications and describe the details of our system architecture, job execution scenario and case studies of various scientific applications.

  • In this paper, an improved binary-CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) system for high speed multimedia data transmission will be presented. The improved binary CDMA technology will be used in municipal wireless network. The new name of the system is the Guardian system using a binary CDMA technology. The Guardian system can provide high data rate, and improve its throughput by minimizing latency from the limitation of resources of system bus during multimedia data transmission. Finally, we analyze the performance of Guardian modem according to the report of wireless data transmission test.

  • Traditionally, kinetics of brain influx of drugs has been evaluated by a number of experimental techniques. Brain uptake index and in situ brain perfusion study have been used for the determination of the kinetics; However, these methods generally focus on the accuracy of the uptake rate into the brain rather than the speed of the determination. In addition, application of radiolabelled substrates (e.g., $_{14}$C-labelled sucrose) further impedes the wide spread acceptance of these techniques for the application of high throughput screening system. • In the presence of a high power cellular network, picocells are added to a Macro-cell layout aiming to enhance total system throughput from cell-splitting. While because of the different transmission power between macrocell and picocell, and co-channel interference challenges between the existing macrocell and the new low power node-picocell, these problems result in no substantive improvement to total system effective throughput. Some works have investigated on these problems. Pico Cell Range Expansion (CRE) technique tries to employ some methods (such as adding a bias for Pico cell RSRP) to drive to offload some UEs to camp on picocells. In this work, we propose two solution schemes (including cell selection method, channel allocation and serving process) and combine new adaptive frequency partitioning reuse scheme to improve the total system throughput. In the simulation, we evaluate the performances of heterogeneous networks for downlink transmission in terms of channel utilization per cell (pico and macro), call blocking probability, outage probability and effective throughput. The simulation results show that the call blocking probability and outage probability are reduced remarkably and the throughput is increased effectively.

  • This study was conducted to develop a high throughput system for screening acetolactate synthase(ALS) inhibitors, and to detect basic mother molecules for developing new novel herbicide candidates. The high throughput screening (HTS) method using 96-well plate and microplate reader was developed. This method is 8 times more effective than basic technique in one cycle per person. Futhermore, considering for less than 1/10 volume of materials required for ALS test and enzyme kinetics with 16 times faster speed compared to those of former procedure, this HTS method has more than 100 times higher efficacy than basic system in a consecutive procedure. We discovered 11 new ALS inhibitors such as 2-oxoglutaric acid, aminooxyacetic acid, azelaic acid, citric acid, cyanuric fluoride, itaconic acid, malonic acid, niclosamide, oxalic acid, glyoxylic acid, and suramin from 107 commercial plant-specific inhibitors using this technique. We hope these results might be useful to discover lead compounds for developing new novel herbicide candidate.

  • Droplet based microfluidic systems have been developed for the application of biological and chemical research field. A picoliter droplet in microfluidic device provides a compartmentalized and well-defined reactor in miniaturized system. The microfluidic system with small droplets can reduce reagent cost and enhance efficiency through automated high-throughput screening system. In this review, we summarize the functionality of droplet based microfluidic system including droplet generation, precise droplet control, and various applications. In addition, this article reviews current applications in chemistry and biology, and discuss advantages of droplet based microfluidics compared with conventional manner.

  • In next generation satellite broadcasting system, requirement of high throughput efficiency has been increasing continuously. To increase throughput efficiency and improve bit error performance simultaneously, FTN method and LDPC codes are employed in new sattelite standard, DVB-S3 system. This paper considered three kinds of methods for increase throughput efficiency. Firstly, as conventional one, high coding rate parity matrix in LDPC encoder is considered. Secondly, punctured coding scheme which delete the coded symbols according to appropriate rules is considered. Lastly, FTN method which transmit fater than Nyquist rate is considered. Among of three kinds of methods, FTN method is most efficient in aspect to performance while maintain same throughput efficiency.
