  • The buffer and backfill are important components of the engineered barrier system in a high-level waste repository, which should be constructed in a hard rock formation at a depth of several hundred meters below the ground surface. The primary function of the buffer and backfill is to seal the underground excavation as a preferred flow path for radionuclide migration from the deposited high-level waste. This study investigates the hydraulic conductivity and swelling pressure of Kyungju Ca-bentonite, which is the candidate material for the buffer and backfill in the Korean reference high-level waste disposal system. The factors that influence the hydraulic conductivity and swelling pressure of the buffer and backfill are analyzed. The factors considered are the dry density, the temperature, the sand content, the salinity and the organic carbon content. The possibility of deterioration in the sealing performance of the buffer and backfill is also assessed.

  • 본 논문에서는 비행 중에 추정되는 비행체 동압 정보의 일반적인 활용법에 대해 소개한다. 본 연구에서는 추정 정보의 정확성을 높여 비행의 신뢰성을 유지하기 위한 동압추정 기법을 제안하였다. 소개된 방법은 압축성 유동의 간단한 관계식을 통해 쉽게 확인할 수 있는 방법이지만, 초고속 비행체의 제어기법에 적용될 수 있는 높은 정확성을 가지는 양질의 동압정보를 제공하기 위한 방법론을 제안하고 그 활용성을 고찰하였다.

  • Hydrogen energy is the clean energy source of the future. Ultra-high-pressure hydrogen is used in hydrogen stations, with its parts being developed. On the other hand, ultra-high-pressure ball valve, which is one of its parts, depends on overseas, with the level of domestic research on this being only about 10% of advanced technology research on this abroad. In this study, the shape of an ultra-high-pressure ball valve for a hydrogen station was designed to improve its structural strength. The valve body was designed according to distance between both processed body holes along inlet and outlet ports. The designed vale body was then analyzed using ANSYS to check whether points with stress were concentrated. In addition, the valve with improved body was analyzed to confirm that the valve satisfied the design condition.

  • Bentonite is generally used as a buffer material in high-level radioactive waste disposal facilities and consists of 50% quartz by weight. Quartz strongly affects the behavior of bentonite over very long periods. For this reason, quartz dissolution experiment was performed under high-pressure and high-alkalinity conditions based on the conditions found in a high-level radioactive waste disposal facility located deep underground. In this study, two quartz dissolution experiments were conducted on 1) quartz beads under low-pressure and high-alkalinity conditions and 2) a single quartz crystal under high-pressure and high-alkalinity conditions. Following the experiments, a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) was used to observe the surfaces of experimental samples. Numerical analyses using the finite element method (FEM) were also performed to quantify the deformation of contact area. Quartz dissolution was observed in both experiments. This deformation was due to a concentrated compressive stress field, as indicated by the quartz deformation of the contact area through the FEM analysis. According to the numerical results, a high compressive stress field acted upon the neighboring contact area, which showed a rapid dissolution rate compared to other areas of the sample.

초고압 동결 처리 방법에 따른 돈육의 물리적 특성에 관한 연구 (Studies on Physical Properties of Pork Frozen by Various High Pressure Freezing Process)

  • 본 실험은 초고압 동결 처리 방법에 의한 돈육의 특성을 대기압 동결 처리와 비교하기 위하여 시행되었다. 본 실험의 결과에 의하면, PSF은 높은 압력 범위에서는 효과적인 잠열의 제거에 기인하여 조직 내 작고 균일한 얼음 결정을 형성함으로써 식품의 품질을 향상시킬 수 있지만, 100 MPa의 mild pressure 범위 조건에서는 그 효과가 미약하거나 오히려 식품에 악영향을 나타낼 수 있었다. 반면에 높은 압력 범위의 PAF은 돈육의 연도 증가 및 심한 변색에 기인하여 육질을 저하시킬 수 있었지만, 본 실험에서 사용한 압력 범위에서는 잠열의 감소에 의하여 PSF보다 따른 동결이 가능하여 효과적인 동결 처리 방법으로 판단되었고, 결국 초고압 동결처리는 압력의 범위에 따라 응용 방법을 적정하게 사용함으로서 식품의 품질을 향상시킬 수 있으리라 판단된다.

Study of Mechanism of Counter-rotating Turbine Increasing Two-Stage Turbine System Efficiency

  • Two-stage turbocharging is an important way to raise engine power density, to realize energy saving and emission reducing. At present, turbine matching of two-stage turbocharger is based on MAP of turbine. The matching method does not take the effect of turbines' interaction into consideration, assuming that flow at high pressure turbine outlet and low pressure turbine inlet is uniform. Actually, there is swirl flow at outlet of high pressure turbine, and the swirl flow will influence performance of low pressure turbine which influencing performance of engine further. Three-dimension models of turbines with two-stage turbocharger were built in this paper. Based on the turbine models, mechanism of swirl flow at high pressure turbine outlet influencing low pressure turbine performance was studied and a two-stage radial counter-rotation turbine system was raised. Mechanisms of the influence of counter-rotation turbine system acting on low-pressure turbine were studied using simulation method. The research result proved that in condition of small turbine flow rate corresponding to engine low-speed working condition, counter-rotation turbine system can effectively decrease the influence of swirl flow at high pressure turbine outlet imposing on low pressure turbine and increases efficiency of the low-pressure turbine, furthermore increases the low-speed performance of the engine.

Effect of High Pressure on the Porcine Placenral Hydrolyzing Activity of Pepsin, Trypsin and Chymotrypsin

  • This study investigated the effects of protease treatments (trypsin, chymotrypsin, and pepsin) under various pressure levels (0.1-300 MPa) for the characteristics of porcine placenta hydrolysates. According to gel electrophoretic patterns, the trypsin showed the best placental hydrolyzing activity followed by chymotrypsin, regardless of the pressure levels. In particular, the peptide bands of tryptic-digested hydrolysate were not shown regardless of applied pressure levels. The peptide bands of hydrolysate treated chymotrypsin showed gradual decreases in molecular weights ($M_w$) with increasing pressure levels. However, the pepsin did not show any evidences of placental hydrolysis even though the pressure levels were increased to 300 MPa. The gel permeation chromatography (GPC) profiles showed that the trypsin and pepsin had better placental hydrolyzing activities under high pressure (particularly at 200 MPa), with lower $M_w$ distributions of the hydrolysates. Pepsin also tend to lower the $M_w$ of peptides, while the major bands of hydrolysates being treated at 300 MPa were observed at more than 7,000 Da. There were some differences in amino acid compositions of the hydrolysates, nevertheless, the peptides were mainly composed of glycine (Gly), alanine (Ala), hydroxyproline (Hyp) and proline (Pro). Consequently, the results indicate that high pressure could enhance the placental hydrolyzing activities of the selected proteases and the optimum pressure levels at which the maximum protease activity is around 200 MPa.

고속 열차 터널의 공기압력 감소를 위한 압력 제어 시스템 (Effect of a Pressure Relief System in a High-speed Railway Tunnel)

  • 고속 열차는 승객과 화물을 대량으로 빠른 시간에 운송할 수 있어 세계 여러 나라에서 고속철도 건설이 증가하고 있다. 열차가 고속으로 주행할 경우 열차의 전두부에 공기 저항이 발생하며, 이러한 공기 저항을 감소시키기 위하여 열차의 형상을 유선형으로 설계한다. 고속으로 주행하는 열차가 터널에 진입할때, 터널 내에서 발생한 공기 저항으로 인하여 개활지 주행 시 보다 훨씬 큰 동력이 요구된다. 따라서 열차가 터널에 진입할 때 열차에 작용하는 공기 저항을 감소시키기 위하여 열차의 주행 속도를 감소시킨다. 이렇게 열차의 속도를 감소시킬 경우, 고속 열차의 운송 능력 및 장점이 감소되기 때문에 터널 내에서 열차 주행으로 인하여 발생되는 공기 저항을 감소시키는 설비가 필수적이다. 이 연구에서는 터널 내에서 열차의 고속 주행을 위하여 필요한 공기 압력 제어 시스템의 효과를 분석하기 위하여 1차원 수치해석을 수행하였다. 1차원 수치해석 프로그램을 통하여, 터널의 단면적 및 공기압력 제어 덕트의 단면적과 배치 간격이 터널 내에서 발생하는 공기 저항에 미치는 영향을 상세히 분석하였다.

  • 압력용기, 유압호스 조립체, 어큐뮤레이터, 유압실린더, 유압밸브, 파이프 등의 제품들의 시험은 일반적으로 ISO와 SAE에서 정의되는 충격압력 조건들로 작동되고 있다. 충격압력 시험 장비는 높은 압력, 정확한 제어 시스템, 장기간 사용할 수 있는 수명을 가지는 것이 요구되며, 언급된 사항들은 유압 시스템에서 보다 높은 압력이 발생되어지는 충격압력 발생기를 제작하는데 필요하다. 충격압력 시험기는 제어는 편리하지만 높은 가격인 서보밸브 제어 시스템이 적용되었다. 제어 시스템의 적용은 시험하는 제품들에 영향을 주는 압력의 파형을 생성한다. 본 연구는 유량과 압력, 압력의 상승속도를 고려한 충격압력 발생시스템 설계 및 제작 과정을 연구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이것은 또한 결과로써 시스템에서 초고압의 압력을 발생시키는 압력 파형을 얻을 수 있었다.

초고압력을 이용한 굴 박신기계에 관한 연구 (A study on the oyster shucking machine using super-high pressure)

  • By applying super-high pressure (150-250 MPa) to a sealed pressure vessel, it is possible to make oyster shucking machine that automatically opens two-sheet shellfish or oysters. Possibility of developing a shucking machine was confirmed by identifying the working pressure for meat of oysters produced in the southern coast and conducting sensory evaluation of meat oysters. As a result of confirming the shucked oysters under super-high pressure of 150 MPa in the pressure vessel, the number of type A with separated shells and well-separated meat was 22 and type B with both shells and internal meat and shells not separated. For the oysters that were treated at 175 MPa, there were 58 type As with shell separated and meat well separated and 42 type Bs without oyster shells and insides. When looking at the oysters shucked at 200 MPa in the pressure vessel, the number of type A was 86 and type B was 14 accounting for 86% of oysters with good marketability. As a result of shucking oysters by applying 250 MPa, 96% type A oysters and 4% type B oysters were obtained from the total specimen. The total specimen oyster weight used in the conducted experiment was 6 kg, the average oyster shell weight was 3.99 kg and the average oyster meat weight was 1.25 kg. Therefore, the fatness of oyster meat, which measures the added value of oysters, is 20.8%. Sensory evaluation was conducted on thinned oysters by hand and type A oysters shelled by machine with an operating pressure of 200 MPa. The hand-worked oyster sample scored 4.7 points only in salty taste, and scored 5.0 or higher in color, shape, smell, fishy taste, texture and preference.
