This study experimentally investigates the flexural behavior of steel-UHPC composite slabs composed of an innovative negative Poisson's ratio (NPR) steel plate and Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) slab connected via demountable high-strength bolt shear connectors. Eight demountable composite slab specimens were fabricated and tested under traditional four-point bending method. The effects of loading histories (positive and negative bending moment), types of steel plate (NPR steel plate and Q355 steel plate) and spacings of high-strength bolts (150 mm, 200 mm and 250 mm) on the flexural behavior of demountable composite slab, including failure mode, load-deflection curve, interface relative slip, crack width and sectional strain distribution, were evaluated. The results revealed that under positive bending moment, the failure mode of composite slabs employing NPR steel plate was distinct from that with Q355 steel plate, which exhibited that part of high-strength bolts was cut off, part of pre-embedded padded extension nuts was pulled out, and UHPC collapsed due to instantaneous instability and etc. Besides, under the same spacing of high-strength bolts, NPR steel plate availably delayed and restrained the relative slip between steel plate and UHPC plate, thus significantly enhanced the cooperative deformation capacity, flexural stiffness and load capacity for composite slabs further. While under negative bending moment, NPR steel plate effectively improved the flexural capacity and deformation characteristics of composite slabs, but it has no obvious effect on the initial flexural stiffness of composite slabs. Meanwhile, the excellent crack-width control ability for UHPC endowed composite members with better durability. Furthermore, according to the sectional strain distribution analysis, due to the negative Poisson's ratio effect and high yield strength of NPR steel plate, the tensile strain between NPR steel plate and UHPC layer held strain compatibility during the whole loading process, and the magnitude of upward movement for sectional plastic neutral axis could be ignored with the increase of positive bending moment.
This paper deals with the formulation and development of fracture criteria for high-strength structural members containing surface damage in the form of notches (i.e., blunt defects). The important role of the yield strength of the material and its strain hardening capacity (evaluated by means of the constitutive law or stress-strain curve) is analysed in depth by considering the fracture performance of notched samples taken from high-strength steels with different levels of cold drawing (the most heavily drawn steel being commercial prestressing steel used in prestressed concrete). The final aim of the paper is to establish fracture-based design criteria for structural members made of steels with distinct yield strength and containing very different kinds of notch-shape surface damage.
It is the purpose of this study to evaluate the structural performance of steel pipe splice for SD500 high-strength reinforcing bar, through a cyclic loading test. The experimental variables adopted in this study include the development length of rebar, the type of sleeve, and size of reinforcing bar, among others. The results of this study showed that the developed steel pipe splice system for SD500 high-strength reinforcing bar, retained the structural performance required in domestic, ACI and AIJ code. It is considered that the study result presented in this paper can be helpful in developing a reasonable design method for a steel pipe splice system for SD500 high-strength reinforcing bar.
The flat type automotive cross members with high strength steel have advantages in light weight and fewer parts compared to the hump type cross members. But the complex part shape of the flat type cross member and the poor formability of high strength steel make it difficult to form the parts without forming defects, such as splits and wrinkles. The purpose of this study is to develop the flat type automotive cross member with high strength steel. For that purpose, drawing processes are evaluated using PAM-$STAMP^{TM}$ and proper draw die and blank designs are proposed. Using the proposed die and blank design, the flat type upper and lower cross member could be formed successfully without forming defects.

A new method to prevent reinforced concrete columns from brittle failure. The method is called transversely reinforcing method in which only the critical regions are confined in steel tube. The steel tubes can change the failure mode of the latter columns from the shear to the flexure. The steel tubes also increase the compressive strength, shear strength and deformation capacity of the infilled concrete. The following conclusions are reached on bases of the study on the seismic performance of the high-strength RC rectangualr short columns confined in steel tube with shear span tho depth ratio of 2.0 The brittle shear failure of high-strength reinforced concrete short columns with large amount of longitudinal bars, which cannot prevented by using the maximum amount of welded hoops, can be prevented by using the steel tube which confines all the maximum amount of welded hoops, can be prevented by using the steel tube which confines all the concrete inclusive of cover concrete. High-strength RC short columns confined in rectangular steel tube provided excellent enhancement of seismic performance but, found that plastic buckling of the steel tube in the hinge regions tended to occur when the columns were subjected to large cyclic lateral displacements. In order to prevent the plastic buckling when the columns lies on large on cyclic lateral displacements, the steel ribs were used for columns. Tests have established that the columns provide excellent enhancement of seismic performance of inadequately confined columns.
The need to lower the weights of automotive vehicle and to improve the safety of cars has resulted in the development of high strength steels such as TRIP(Transformation Induced Plasticity) and DP (Dual Phase) steel. It is well known that the higher strength of steel shows the poorer press formability. Among the high strength steels, DP steel shows several good characteristics such as low yield ratio, high initial n value, high elongation, high bake hardenability and anti-aging property. However, there's a certain limit in application of DP steels to the automotive panel parts because their poor deep drawbility caused by martensite. In this study, the effect of alloying elements on the deep drawability and recrystallization texture in TS 440MPa grade DP steel with 0.015~0.02% carbon has been investigated on the base of SEM, TEM, XRD and EBSD analysis.
