An Input-Powered High-Efficiency Interface Circuit with Zero Standby Power in Energy Harvesting Systems

  • This study presents an input-powered high-efficiency interface circuit for energy harvesting systems, and introduces a zero standby power design to reduce power consumption significantly while removing the external power supply. This interface circuit is composed of two stages. The first stage voltage doubler uses a positive feedback control loop to improve considerably the conversion speed and efficiency, and boost the output voltage. The second stage active diode adopts a common-grid operational amplifier (op-amp) to remove the influence of offset voltage in the traditional comparator, which eliminates leakage current and broadens bandwidth with low power consumption. The system supplies itself with the harvested energy, which enables it to enter the zero standby mode near the zero crossing points of the input current. Thereafter, high system efficiency and stability are achieved, which saves power consumption. The validity and feasibility of this design is verified by the simulation results based on the 65 nm CMOS process. The minimum input voltage is down to 0.3 V, the maximum voltage efficiency is 99.6% with a DC output current of 75.6 μA, the maximum power efficiency is 98.2% with a DC output current of 40.4 μA, and the maximum output power is 60.48 μW. The power loss of the entire interface circuit is only 18.65 μW, among which, the op-amp consumes only 2.65 μW.

  • Neural network is used in many fields of control systems currently. However, It is not easy to obtain input-output pattern when neural network is used for the system of a single feedback controller and it is difficult to get satisfied performance with neural network when load changes rapidly or disturbance is applied. To resolve these problems, this paper proposes a new mode to implement a neural network controller by installing a real object in place of activation function of Neural Network output node. As the Neural Network self adaptive control system is designed in simple structure neural network input-output pattern problem is solved naturally and real tin Loaming becomes possible through general back propagation algorithm. The effect of the proposed Neural Network self adaptive control algorithm was verified in a test of controlling the speed of a A.C. servo motor equipped with a high speed computing capable DSP (TMS320C32) on which the proposed algorithm was loaded.

Development of High-Speed Width-Changing Pattern in Continuous Caster (연속주조기의 몰드 폭 변경 패턴 개발)

  • Four patterns for width adjustment were studied with an aim to increase the width-adjustment speed in continuous casting. The main goals are to minimize the actuating force of a WAM actuator, to develop a deformation analysis model of a solidified shell in the mold, and to induce the main limit factor for the speedup of width adjustment. On the basis of the width-adjustment experiment, the notable features of four patterns types were considered, and we compared the corresponding actuating forces. For comparing the driving forces of the patterns, during the experiment, the same casting speed was maintained for each pattern. To optimize the parameter of the deformation analysis model of the solidified shell, the experiment results were applied to them. To speed up width adjustment and to reduce the driving force, we controlled the pattern parameters. The most effective pattern was the fast-mode pattern, and the taper was the main parameter that helped reduce the driving forces during the motion of the actuator.

  • We reported the methodology for the shear test which is one of the evaluation procedure for mechanical reliability of flip-chip package. The shear speed and the tip height are found to be two significant experimental parameters in the shear test. We investigated how these two parameters have an influence on the results, the shear strength and failure mode. In order to prove these experimental inconsistency, simulation using finite element analysis was also conducted to calculate the shear strength and to figure out the distribution of plastic energy inside of the solder ball. The shear strength decreased while the tip height increased or the shear speed decreased. A variation in shear strength due to inconsistent shear conditions made confusion on analyzing experimental results. As a result, it was strongly needed to standardize the shear test method.

  • Boosting of engine power by using Turbo- or Super-charger is a solution to comply with $CO_2$-regulation in Europe. Turbo-charger is now playing a major role in the field of charging system thank to its technical advantages such as no demand of operation power from engine. A mechanically driven Super-charger, however, is now popular due to quick speed response to change of the driving mode-high engine torque even at low engine speed. Since Super-charger needs operation power from engine, it is difficult to improve its relatively higher fuel consumption than that of Turbo-charger. This negative point is still an obstacle to the wide use of Super-charger. This study aims to develop power control concept to achieve the minimization of operation power when it is not necessary to charge at idling or part load driving condition. A screw type Super-charger was modified in design partially and adapted an internal bypass valve and a bypass tube to control charging pressure at part load. The various control concepts show a possibility to reduce operation power of Super-charger and result in improvement of fuel consumption.

Spray Characteristics on the Electrostatic Rotating Bell Applicator

  • The current trend in automotive finishing industry is to use more electrostatic rotating bell (ESRB) need space to their higher transfer efficiency. The flow physics related with the transfer efficiency is strongly influenced by operating parameters. In order to improve their high transfer efficiency without compromising the coating quality, a better understanding is necessary to the ESRB application of metallic basecoat painting for the automobile exterior. This paper presents the results from experimental investigation of the ESRB spray to apply water-borne painting. The visualization, the droplet size, and velocity measurements of the spray flow were conducted under the operating conditions such as liquid flow rate, shaping airflow rate, bell rotational speed, and electrostatic voltage setting. The optical techniques used in here were a microscopic and light sheet visualization by a copper vapor laser, and a phase Doppler particle analyzer (PDPA) system. Water was used as paint surrogate for simplicity. The results show that the bell rotating speed is the most important influencing parameter for atomization processes. Liquid flow rate and shaping airflow rate significantly influence the spray structure. Based on the microscopic visualization, the atomization process occurs in ligament breakup mode, which is one of three atomization modes in rotating atomizer. In the spray transport zone, droplets tend to distribute according to size with the larger drops on the outer periphery of spray. In addition, the results of present study provide detailed information on the paint spray structure and transfer processes.

  • In this paper, a method of one line transmission of 622Mbps to interface a low speed part with a high speed part is introduced instead of H-BUS method of the 10 line transmission of 77.76Mbps in the 10Gbps optical transmission system. For this method, a reframing method to align the received data of 622Mbps transmission to STM(Synchronous Transfer Mode)-64 frame of SDH(Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) is described. Reframing is designed with VHDL and applied in the 10G-S4 ASIC of T14U board of 10Gbps optical transmission system.

  • A rotordynamic analysis is performed with a motor-bull gear rotor system supported on two partial bearings, which is intended to drive a high-speed turbo-chiller compressor impeller shaft through its built-in pinion gear. The motor-bull gear rotor system has a rated speed of 3,600 rpm, and is modeled utilizing the finite element method for analysis. As loadings on the bearings due to the gear action are significant in the system considered, each resultant bearing load is calculated statically by considering the generalized forces of the gear action as well as the rotor itself. The two support partial bearings are designed to take their varying loads along with their varying load angles, and they are also analyzed to give their rotordynamic coefficients. Then, a complex rotordynamic analysis of the motor-bull gear rotor-bearing system is carried out to evaluate its whirl natural frequencies and mode shapes and unbalance responses under various loading conditions. Results show that the bearings and entire rotor system are well designed regradless of operating conditions, i.e., loads and operating speeds.

  • This paper proposes maximum torque control of IPMSM drive using optimal current. This control method is applicable over the entire speed range which considered the limits of the inverter's current and voltage rated value. For each control mode, a condition that determines the optimal d-axis current $i_d$ for maximum torque operation is derived. This paper considers the design and implementation of novel technique of high performance speed control for IPMSM using multi-MFC and ANN controller. Also, this paper proposes maximum control of IPMSM drive using approximation method. This method is decreased the burden of digital signal process(DSP) in calculation of optimal current. This paper proposes the analysis results to verify the effectiveness of the MFC and ANN controller. Also it verifies the validity of maximum torque control of IPMSM drive with optimal current.

  • In this paper, we've studied Optical Fiber Subscribe Transmit system. After receiving the ATM cell passing through the FIFO of the Asynchronous Transfer Method from the ATM Layer images to the VC4 signal payload passing through scrambling of the cell payload, HEC computation of the cell and inserting the Idle/Unassigned cell. At this time formed VC4 signal passing through the generating and inserting POH overhead at the same time indicating the start point of the cell by the H4 byte on the VC4 POH. This ATM cell transmits 155Mbps speed changing the optical signal after outputting the frame format at the STM-1 signal generation block through the AUG bus after generating J1 of the VC4 start point at the AU4 pointer generation block.
