  • The objective of this study is to develop a mortar mixture with high workability and adhesive strength for section jacketing in seismic strengthening technology of existing concrete structures. To achieve targeted requirements of the mortars (initial flow exceeding 200 mm, compressive strength of 30MPa, and adhesive strength exceeding 1MPa), step-by-step tests were conducted under the variation of the following mixture parameters: water-to-binder ratio, sand-to-binder ratio, polymer-to-binder ratio, dosage of viscosity agent, and content of ultra-rapid-hardening cement. The adhesive strength of the mortars was also estimated with respect to the various surface treatment states of existing concrete. Based on the test results, the mortar mixture with the polymer-to-binder ratio of 10% and the content of ultra-rapid-hardening cement of 5% can be recommended for the section jacketing materials. The recommended mortar mixture satisfied the targeted requirements as follows: initial flow of 220 mm, high-early strength gain, 28-day compressive strength of 35MPa, and adhesive strength exceeding 1.2MPa.

  • Blast-furnace slag cement has been used widely as a structural material due to the latent hydraulicity of granulated ground blast furnace slag(GGBS)for a long time as The wall as ordinary portland cement. In this study, based on the fundamental investigation on the high strength and high durable concrete using the high fineness GGBS the following remarks can be made. 1) The average desired strenth of concrete is Or=600~800kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. 2) The above high strength concrete using the high fineness GGBS is more workable than those using only OPC. 3) The adiabatic temperature and drying shringkage decrease, so the density and resistance to sea water attack increase as results. 4)The unit cement content and unit air entrained admixture at the same desired strength of concrete decrease, so the economical high strength concrete can be manufactured from using the high fineness GGBS.

  • The growth in concrete structures repair has prompted major efforts to develop high early strength concrete. The internal or external restraint of thermal shrinkage movements could thus generate tensile stresses in concrete structures if it is used rapid setting repair concrete. Restrained shrinkage and thermal stresses could produce microcracks in concrete which increase its permeability and accelerate its long-term deterioration under weathering and load effects. This study aims at evaluation and increase of the engineering properties of high early strength concrete using regulated set cement.

  • This study focused on manufacturing an inorganic insulation material set with various amounts of calcium-sulfoaluminate (CSA) (hauyne) content for enhancing both workability (demolding, handling) and the high thermal insulating property. To carry out the experiment, the amounts of CSA utilized were 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%, with anhydrous gypsum added in equal proportion to produce a stable formation. As the content of CSA increased, a sinking phenomenon occurred because of the hydration reaction from the slurry, so it was difficult to utilize a retarder normally used in the cement manufacturing process. However, an RCOOM surfactant was able to solve the local clumping problem from cement and CSA and obtain a rapid retarding effect, so it was included in this process at 0.3%. Furthermore, the cement fineness was not 7000 ㎠/g but rather 3300 ~ 4000 ㎠/g to prevent a rapid temperature increase in the slurry. The specific gravity of the sample manufactured with 20% CSA was approximately 0.11 g/㎤, and its thermal conductivity was 0.041 W/m·K, providing an excellent insulating property.

  • This paper aims to study the effect of measurement methods and cracking on chloride transport of concrete materials. Three kinds of measurement methods were carried out, including immersion test, rapid migration test and steady-state migration test. All of these measurements of chloride transport show that chloride ion diffusion coefficient decreased with the reduction of water to cement ratio. Results of the immersion test were less than that of rapid migration test and steady-state migration test. For the specimen of lower water to cement ratio, the external electrical field has little effect on chloride binding relatively. Compared with the results obtained by these different measurement methods, the lower water to cement ratio may cause smaller differences among these different methods. The external voltage can reduce chloride binding of concrete, and the higher electrical field made a strong impact on the chloride binding. Considering the effect of high voltage on the specimen, results indicate that results based on the steady-state migration test should be more reasonable. For cracked concrete, cracking can accelerate the chloride ion diffusion.

  • In this study, the change of composition of cement hardened at high temperature through XRD was observed. The specimen was made of cement paste and the heating rate condition was applied at rapid thermal annealing (10.0℃ / min). The decrease of calcium hydroxide was not confirmed, but the calcium carbonate tended to be impossible or decreased after 800℃. Calcium silicate and larnite were observed to increase with increasing temperature. It is considered that silicic acid, which is a stable structure due to the decomposition of calcium silicate, is changed into a phase such as lime.

  • In order to develop concrete generating compressive strength of 15MPa~30MPa aging for 6~12 hours in the room temperature curing, Hardening accelerator containing Ca2+ mixed with rapid hardening portland cement containing C3S in quantity. The result was that the more addictive contents of Hardening accelerator is, the more greatly early compressive strength was improved. That s because the composition of Ca(OH)2 was mass-produced at early-ages.

  • The main aim of this study is to investigate the possible effects of metakaolin on strength and durability properties of concrete. For this purpose, concrete mixtures are produced by substituting cement with metakaolin 0, 5, 10 and 20% by weight. The amount of binder for the concrete mixtures are 300 and $400kg/m^3$ with a constant water to cement ratio of 0.6. Compressive and bending strengths, freeze-thaw and high-temperature resistances, capillary coefficients and rapid chloride permeability properties were determined and compared each other. Because of all the experiments conducted, it has been found that the use of metakaolin as a pozzolanic additive in concrete have positive effects especially on compressive and bending strengths, capillary, rapid chloride permeability, freeze-thaw resistance, and high temperatures, up to $800^{\circ}C$. The results indicated that the performance of concrete can be enhanced by metakaolin. Particularly, compressive strength and durability properties have found to be improved with increasing metakaolin content which is attributed to pozzolanic activity and filler effect. Furthermore, metakaolin has relatively positive impacts under elevated temperatures and freeze-thaw effects. However, almost all the strengths of entire concrete specimens are lost at $800^{\circ}C$. Consequently, the optimum metakaolin substitution ratio can be suggested to be 20% as per this study.

  • The aim of the research is to analyze a feasibility of rapid evaluation method for cement fineness by the relation analysis between density measurement using hydrometer and fineness of ordinary Portland cement. Additionally, based on the commercially available cement product, relation between a series of fundamental properties of cement mortar and fineness of cement powder was analyzed. As an experimental result, the actually measured fineness value of cement powder showed a good correlation with the fineness value obtained by hydrometer while there was poor correlation with the fineness value on specification. Especially, the density measurement in three minutes showed the closest relation with cement powder fineness, thus rapid quality evaluation of cement powder can be possible by using the regression equation obtained from the three minutes density measurement. Additionally, there was a high relation between cement powder fineness with a fundamental properties of the cement mortar such as fluidity, air content, setting time, and strength development.

  • In this study, the cracking characteristics of cured pastes at 800℃ were investigated by X-ray CT. The test specimens were fabricated with and without aggregate, and the heating rate condition was applied at rapid heating (10.0℃/min). It is considered that the rapid heating condition does not cause a temperature gradient phenomenon because the temperature difference between the surface and the center of the sample is small due to a low heating rate unlike an actual fire. The cracking condition of the specimens without aggregate was more severe than that of specimens with aggregate.
