초어 및 백련의 종묘 생산에 관한 연구, 1971 (PROPAGATION OF GRASS CARP AND SILVIR CARP, 1971)

  • 1963년에 일본으로부터 도입한 치어 (금, 1963; 등삼, 1963)로부터 자란 초어와 백련을 이용하여, 1970년도에 이어 1971년도에 인공 채란 부화에 의한 종묘 생산을 시도하여 $2\~3cm$되는 종묘 약 15만 마리를 생산하였으며, 종묘 생산 과정에 있어서 문제된 점을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 채란 부화에 사용하는 친어는 사전 관리의 충실, 외관상 충실한 친어를 선택하여 hormone을 주사할 것 등은 물론이고, 주사 또는 채란시 상처가 나지 않도록 하여 알이 성숙 배란할 때까지 친어의 몸이 쇠약하지 않아야 성숙 배란이 가능하다고 인정되었다. 그리고, 사용하는 뇌하수체의 양은 피주사어의 $2\~3$배 체중량의 어체로부터 뽑은 정도로 조금 많이 사용하는 것이 좋았다. 2. 성숙한 알은 성숙치 완료한 후 지체 없이 배란 수정시켜야 한다. 만약 배란 수정이 늦어지면 알의 부화운치 심하게 낮아진다고 인정된다. 3. 한번 부화시킨 물을 갈지 않고 즉시 계속하여 새로운 알을 수용, 부화를 시키니 부화전에 알이 모두 용해하는 현상이 일어났다. 4. 가두리에서 치어 사육을 하면, 생산된 종묘의 포획과 분양에 대단히 편리하지만, 가두리 속의 수질 관리를 철저히 해야 한다. 특히, 용수는 호오스 또는 파이프를 통하여 가두리 속으로 계속 주입시켜야 한다. 5. 자어 또는 치어 사육용 가두리 속에 Spirogyra 사상 조류가 발생하기 시작하면 그 피해가 심하다. 이 때는 광선을 차단하고, 플랑크톤 조류가 적당히 발생한 못의 물을 주입함으로써 그 피해를 막을 수 있었다. 맑은 샘물을 주입하니 사상 조류의 발생이 대단히 심하였다. 6. 백련 종묘는 수온이 높은 여름철에는 포획 운반을 하면 대부분 죽는데, 가두리에서 육성시킨 $1.5\~2cm$ 정도 소형 종묘는 여름철에도 포획 운반이 가능하므로 가을 운반을 위한 성장 억제를 할 필요가 없어진다.

Western dietary pattern is associated with higher risk of lower lean muscle mass in Korean postmenopausal women: data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2008-2011

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: In a healthy person, from 35 years of age, there is an annual loss of muscle mass at the rate of 1-2% and is associated with a decline in the quality of life. This study aimed to identify the particular dietary patterns associated with the risk of lower lean muscle mass in Korean postmenopausal women. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) is a population-based, continuous cross-sectional annual survey. The participants of the KNHANES IV (2008-2009) and V (2010-2011) were considered for this study. The study sample consisted of 1548 postmenopausal women, aged 45-86 years. Lower lean muscle mass was defined as having appendicular skeletal muscle mass corrected for body weight less than 1 standard deviation of the young reference group aged 20 to 39 years in KNHANES IV and V. To identify the dietary pattern using factor analysis, 24-h recall data was used. RESULTS: The prevalence of lower lean muscle mass was 31.3% in this study population. Four dietary patterns were identified by factor analysis; 'Diverse', 'Western', 'Traditional', and 'Snacks and beverages'. The 'Western' pattern, highest factor loadings for flour and bread, potatoes, red meat, processed meat, eggs, and cheese, was significantly associated with a high (60%) risk of lower lean muscle mass (odds ratio [95% confidence interval] = 1.60 [1.07-2.39], P for trend = 0.01) after adjustments for potential covariates. The other 3 dietary patterns were not associated with lower lean muscle mass. CONCLUSIONS: The study findings suggest that the 'Western' dietary pattern that includes flour and bread, potatoes, red meat, processed meat, eggs, and cheese, may be associated with a higher risk of lower lean muscle mass in Korean postmenopausal women.

Value of spray-dried egg in pig nursery diets

  • High-quality protein ingredients have been used in nursery diets, in spite of expensive ingredients, to minimize nutritional deficiency and disease problems. Recent dramatic increases in prices of protein products for nursery diets have exacerbated the challenge. Spray-dried egg may be a part of the solutions. Therefore, this review describes the value of spray-dried egg in nursery diets as a high-quality protein source. Spray-dried egg is egg by-product and is produced by only eggs without shell that are below the USDA Grade B standards. Spray-dried egg is an excellent nutrient source: 1) highly digestible, 2) excellent balance of amino acids, 3) rich content of fat, and 4) high metabolizable energy. These can be attributed to growth of nursery pigs. Beyond the provision of bioavailable nutrients, spray-dried egg also may provide specific physiological benefits. Spray-dried egg contains 1) immunoglobulin antibodies (IgY: IgG in egg yolk) that may attach to intestinal pathogens and excrete them and 2) lysozymes antimicrobial protein that can damage bacteria cell wall. Thereby feeding spray-dried egg may reduce concentration of intestinal pathogen and thus improve potential gut health or enteric disease resistance in nursery pigs. This is important for physiologically immature weaned pigs. Based on these benefits, spray-dried egg is believed to have the same benefits as spray-dried plasma protein and milk products in diets for nursery pigs. Therefore, it is suggested that spray-dried egg has a great potential as a valuable protein source in nursery diets.

Effect of Feeding High Glucosinolate Rapeseed Meal to Laying Japanese Quail

  • The laying performance of Japanese quails fed graded levels of high glucosinolate ($92.5{\mu}mole/g$) rapeseed meal (RSM) was assessed. One hundred and twenty Japanese quails aged 1 day-old were assigned at random to four dietary treatments consisting of 0, 50, 75 or 100 g/kg RSM in the diet replacing part of the soybean meal and de-oiled rice bran in a standard quail ration. 12 female representative quails from each diet were selected at random and housed in individual cages from 7-20 wk of age. The egg production, feed intake and FCR was comparable among the different dietary groups. The egg quality characteristics, organoleptic evaluation of boiled eggs as well as the haematological (haemoglobin, total erythrocyte count, total leucocyte count) and biochemical (glucose, protein, cholesterol, aspartate amino transferase, alanine amino transferase and alkaline phosphatase) constituents did not differ significantly among the groups. The gross and histopathological studies of vital organs did not reveal any appreciable changes. The feed cost was reduced by the incorporation of RSM in the diet, but only the production cost of quails fed the 75 g/kg RSM was lower in comparison to other groups. In the present study, the laying potential of Japanese quail was well-maintained up to the 100g/kg dietary level of rapeseed meal.

지렁이 분변토 발효사료가 고품질 계란생산 및 악취 저감에 미치는 영향 (Effect of fermented earthworm cast feed on the production of high-quality eggs and odor reduction)

  • 본 연구의 목표는 분변토로부터 분리한 Bacillus subtilis외 2종의 복합 생균제를 이용하여 제조한 발효사료가 산란계 생산성, 계란품질 및 양계장 악취저감에 미치는 효과를 조사하는 것이었다. 산란계 240마리를 4개의 처리구로 구분하여 완전임의 배치하였다. 실험 처리구는 대조구, 분변토발효사료 0.3, 0.5% (FECF3, FECF5), 일반생균제 0.2% (CP)로 구분하였다. 산란율은 일반사료를 섭취한 대조구와 비교할 때 FECF 처리구는 유의하게 높았으나 CP 처리구는 차이가 없었다. 호우유닛, 난각두께, 파란강도, 난황색 지수 및 농후난백 높이는 대조구와 비교할 때 FECF 처리구가 증가하였으나 CP 처리구와 차이는 없었다. 계란의 n-3 함량은 대조구와 비교할 때 FECF 처리구가 높았으나 n-6/n-3 비율은 낮았으며 CP 처리구와의 차이는 없었다. 계분을 실온에서 5일간 방치 후 암모니아 발생량은 대조구와 비교할 때 CP와 FECF 처리구가 낮았다.

Cathepsin B & D and the Survival of Early Embryos in Red Spotted Grouper, Ephinephelus akaara

  • Survival of embryos largely depends on yolk processing during early development. Proteolytic enzymes, cathepsin B & D (ctsb & ctsd) are known to have some important roles in yolk processing of various fish species. Mature female red spotted groupers were injected with human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) to induce ovulation. The fertilized eggs and embryos were sampled at 0, 4 and 24 HPF (hours post fertilization). Survivals of each groups of embryos were checked at 24 and 48 HPH (hours post hatching). Transcripts of ctsb & ctsd showed the highest level at 0 HPF and relatively high at 4 HPF, but greatly decreased at 24 HPF. In bad egg quality group (BE, embryos survived until 24 HPH), transcript level of ctsb at 4 HPF were significantly lower than the transcript level at the same stage in good egg quality group (GE, embryos survived until 48 HPH) while no significant change of ctsb transcript level was observed at 0 or 24 HPF between BE and GE. Transcript level of ctsd was decreased at 24 HPF, but the difference was not as strong as the case of ctsb transcript. These results suggest that maternal ctsb transcript rather than ctsd transcript is likely to be involved in egg quality resulting in the difference of survival rate of embryos at early developmental period in this species.

중년여성에서 식생활평가지수에 의한 식사의 질과 비알코올 지방간질환 발생과의 연관성: 제6기(2013-2015) 국민건강영양조사 자료 이용 (Association between Dietary Quality Based on the Korean Healthy Eating Index and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Korean Adult Women: Using Data from the Sixth (2013-2015) Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey)

  • We performed a study to examine the association between diet quality and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Our study included 3,586 women aged 40-64 years who participated in the sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The study subjects were classified into the NAFLD group (n=816) and the normal group (n=2,770) using the hepatic steatosis index. The anthropometric indices, blood profiles, and dietary intake data of the subjects were obtained. The waist circumference, body mass index, and the serum levels of triglycerides, fasting blood sugar, HbA1c, and systolic and diastolic blood pressures were higher in the NAFLD compared to the normal groups (p<0.001, respectively). The intakes of protein (g/kg body weight, p<0.001), potassium (p<0.001), and vitamin A (p=0.006) were significantly lower in the NAFLD group. It was observed that the higher the total Korean Healthy Eating Index score, the lower the risk of NAFLD. A reverse relationship was shown between the NAFLD risk and the intakes of total fruits, total vegetables, vegetables excluding Kimchi and pickled vegetables, meat, fish, eggs and beans. Therefore, it is recommended that middle-aged women in Korea increase their intakes of fruits, vegetables, and foods high in protein for the proper management of NAFLD.

A Research Review of Village Chicken Production Constraints and Opportunities in Zimbabwe

  • Development of village chicken production can be a sustainable way of helping to meet the welfare needs of rural populations and raise their living standards. There is a dearth of information on research conducted to characterize, understand and develop the village chicken production systems in Zimbabwe. This review focuses on constraints, opportunities and research needs for the improvement of village chicken productivity in Zimbabwe. Village chicken production in Zimbabwe is extensive and dominated by indigenous chickens that exhibit remarkable adaptation to local environments. The multitude functions of village chickens, which include the provision of high quality protein meat and eggs, cash through sales and socio-cultural roles, are discussed in detail. Human gender aspects in village chicken production are highlighted. The factors that hamper village chicken productivity are reviewed together with opportunities and research needs. The major constraints include shortage of feed, poor health and housing management. Any improvements in these constraints may lead to sustainable increase in village chicken productivity.

  • 계란의 판매전략에는 $\ulcorner$제품개발$\lrcorner$$\ulcorner$판로개척$\lrcorner$ 의 두 가지 길이 있으며 이러한 전략적 대응이 필연적으로 성공하고 있다고는 할 수 없다. 판매 노력에 관한 평가는 앞으로 경영진단의 과제가 될 것이며 어느 것을 선택하느냐에 따라서 경영별 유리성은 격차가 더욱더 커질 것이다. 최근 시장개방화와 만성적인 생산과잉에 의한 수익성의 악화로 농가부채 증가 등 채란 양계 경영에 많은 어려움을 겪고 있는 실정이다. 한편 이러한 가운데서도 저 난가의 대응책으로 고부가가치, 상품차별화에 의한 신제품 개발, 판로개척 등 수익성 확보로 맞서고 있는 경영을 볼 수 있다. 앞에서 말한바와 같이 경영구조를 비교 분석한 것을 종합해보면 저 난가 구조하에서 살아남을 수 있는 길은 생산비절감도 중요한 비중을 차지하겠지만 무엇보다도 가격에 대하여 어떻게 대응할 것인가라는 전제하에 도매보다는 소매의 비율을 높인다든지 제품개발(상품차별화)을 통한 고 부가가치의 방향으로 나아가야 할 것이다.

우유의 진가와 한국인의 식생활 (The Value of Milk and Korean Dietary Life)

  • Milk and milk products, especially the cow's milk and cheese, have been used since the ancient time. Because they contains almost all kinds of nutrients that are necessary for human beings except for iron, n-3 fatty acid, and vitamin C. Milk is an excellent dietary source of protein, calcium and phosphorus. The biological value of milk protein is as high as those of red meat and eggs. So cheese, a food processed from concentrated milk protein, is highly recommended food for the patient of diabetes mellitus. Because the major form of milk lipids is n-6 fatty acid, milk and milk products may not be a good food for the patients of cardiovascular disease. But the nutritional quality of milk lipids cannot be inferior to those of margarine, fish oil, and vegetable oil. Milk has been produced commercially since 1936 in Korea. The most popular milk product is a drink milk now in Korea. But according to the change of dietary pattern the consumption of yoghurt and cheese has been enormously increased during the last 20 years. As the soy sauce, tofu, and soy been paste have been the fundamental seasoning and source of protein in Korea, milk and cheese have consisted the essential flavor of western cuisine. But the basic idea for the usage of protein, peptides, and amino acids are the same. We found that milk and milk products can be nicely added in many Korean dishes such as Juk, Mandoo, Jeon, and Bindeatuk for the diversity of traditional flavor.
