  • The purpose of this study was to examine the maintenance of an evaluation accreditation indicator according to child care center teachers' participation in decision making. The subjects of this study were 139 teachers from 12 accredited national, public, private, and corporate child care centers in Seoul and North Gyeongsang Province. The TIP-2 (Teacher Involvement and Participation Scale V.2) and Accreditation Indicator for Child Care Centers were used to measure teachers' participation in decision making and accreditation indicator maintenance. Frequency, mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA and scheffe test were used for data analyses. The results revealed that the teachers who rated middle and high level in terms of their participation in decision-making showed higher levels of maintenance of the evaluation accreditation indicator than those with low levels of participation. This finding suggests that teachers' participation in decision making is an important factor for maintaining the quality of child care centers.

  • Studies show that time pressure affects the purchase decision-making process of consumers. However, in the case of apparel shopping, few studies have looked into the influence of time pressure on the purchase decision-making process. This study aims to determine how perceived time pressure in apparel shopping, time pressure situations, and product type and the interactions between these variables influence the clothing purchase process. An empirical study was conducted among males and females in their 20s and 30s. Perceived time pressure in apparel shopping was measured using four items. Time pressure situations and product types were given in the form of scenarios. A $2{\times}2{\times}2$ experimental design was used, and perceived time pressure in apparel shopping, time pressure situations, and product type were used to create eight different situations. The dependent variables included decision-making speed, anticipated regret, and anticipated purchase satisfaction. Data from 512 subjects were collected through an online data collection. Results showed that the high perceived time pressure group and the shopping situation with time pressure involved a significantly high level of decision-making time, anticipated regret, and anticipated purchase satisfaction. Marketers must understand the real-time pressure situations of consumers.

  • Unplanned purchase is an unexpected buying behavior affected by product or marketing stimuli. Unplanned purchase does not follow the order of the rational decision making process. Through an in-depth interview, this study classified the types of unplanned purchase of clothing and examined the decision-making processes. The results (according to the need recognition level of consumers prior to stimuli) show three types of unplanned purchase of clothing products that are classified as: the need-manifesting type, the need-embodying type, and the need-reminding type. In addition, each type is reclassified into the high-cognition type and the low-cognition type according to the cognitive effort level of consumers during the purchase decision-making process. The need-manifesting type recognized a buying need after exposure to stimuli and then engaged in unplanned purchases. The need-embodying type recognized a problem, but the purchase intention was not concrete. The need-reminding type recognized a desire to buy clothing products, but temporarily forgot it, and then later remembered the problem recognition from the past after experiencing the stimuli.

  • The purpose of this study was to see the effects of pitch and length patterns on spoken word recognition. In Experiment 1, a syllable monitoring task was used to see the effects of pitch and length on the pre-lexical level of spoken word recognition. For both Seoul dialect speakers and Daegu dialect speakers, pitch and length did not affect the syllable detection processes. This result implies that there is little effect of pitch and length in pre-lexical processing. In Experiment 2, a lexical decision task was used to see the effect of pitch and length on the lexical access level of spoken word recognition. In this experiment, word frequency (low and high) as well as pitch and length was manipulated. The results showed that pitch and length information did not play an important role for Seoul dialect speakers, but that it did affect lexical decision processing for Daegu dialect speakers. Pitch and length seem to affect lexical access during the word recognition process of Daegu dialect speakers.

  • Comparison between two or more fuzzy numbers, along with their ranking, is an important subject discussed in scholarly articles. We endeavor in this paper to present a simple yet effective parametric method for comparing fuzzy numbers. This method offer significant advantages over similar methods, in comparing intersected fuzzy numbers, rendering the comparison between fuzzy numbers possible in different decision levels. In the process, each fuzzy number will be given a parametric value in terms of $\alpha$, which is dependent on the related $\alpha$-cuts. We have compared this method to Cheng's centroid point method [5] (The relation of calculating centroid point of a fuzzy number was corrected later on by Wang [12]). The proposed method can be utilized for all types of fuzzy numbers whether normal, abnormal or negative.

  • Company A, an embedded system manufacturer, has been managing multiple development projects. Executives need to understand the risk level of every project and prioritize resource distribution. Traditional project monitoring tools or excel sheets are too complex for calculating the risk factors across a functional organization. Two new charts, "Spear-head Chart" and "Float Chart" were designed to assist high level decision making processes. Two charts were used for weekly executive meetings in order to monitor project progress and rectify project direction. One page graphical monitoring tools in Company A are good enough for high management decision making. Authors explain the characteristics of two charts and propose its practical implementation in real working environment. Spear-head chart was also implemented as a system.

  • This study investigated the effect of the environmental issue analysis instruction on the decision making ability of middle school students. A pretest-posttest control group design was employed. The participants for the research were 288 1st grade male students in middle school in Seoul, the environmental issue analysis lesson group consisted of 142 members and the non-environmental education group consisted of 146 members. The cognitive level of the students were divided into three groups-concrete, transition, formal-as the result of GALT test. Students take issue analysis lessons during 6 weeks, one lesson per a week. Students had studied through worksheets reconstructed and developed by researcher on basis of issue analysis suggested by Ramsey et al. (1997). The results of the research were followings: After lesson for environmental issue analysis, all of the students were improved in decision-making ability regardless of cognitive level (p<.05). Especially, decision-making ability of the transition group students was improved to a high degree. Scores of searching relevant information, generation of alternatives, identification of values for selection criteria, the evaluation of alternatives' merits and demerits, prediction of consequence were increased in experimental group (p<.05). But the ability of selection of alternatives according to value was not reached statistically meaningful improvement. The decision-making ability of the control group students was not improved but ability of selection of alternatives, the evaluation of consequence were increased (p<.05).

  • This paper proposes a VLSI architecture for high-speed data processing of the differential phase detectors with the decision feedback. To improve the BER performance of the conventional differential phase detection, DF-DPD, DPD-RGPR and DFDPD-SA have been proposed. These detection methods have the architecture feedbacking the detected phase to reduce the noise of the previous symbol as phase reference. However, the feedback of the detected phase results in lower data processing speed than that of the conventional differential phase detection. In this paper, the VLSI architecture was proposed for high-speed data processing of the differential phase detectors with decision feedback. The Proposed architecture has the pre-calculation method to previously calculate the results on 'N'th step at 'M-1'th step and the pre-decision feedback method to previously feedback the predicted phases at 'M-1'th step. The architecture proposed in this paper was implemented to RTL using VHDL. The simulation results show that the Proposed architecture obtains the high-speed data processing.

  • The ozone forecasting systems have many problems because the mechanism of the ozone concentration is highly complex, nonlinear, and nonstationary. Also, the results of prediction are not a good performance so far, especially in the high-level ozone concentration. This paper describes the modeling method of the ozone prediction system using neuro-fuzzy approaches and fuzzy clustering. The dynamic polynomial neural network (DPNN) based upon a typical algorithm of GMDH (group method of data handling) is a useful method for data analysis, identification of nonlinear complex system, and prediction of a dynamical system.

  • High-speed QPSK demodulator has been one important design objective of any wireless communication systems, especially those offering broadband multimedia service. This paper describes Zero-Crossing IF-level(ZCIF) QPSK demodulator for high-speed wireless communications, and its hardware structures are discussed. ZCIF QPSK demodulator is mainly composed of symbol time circuit and carrier recovery circuit to estimate timing and phase-offsets. There are various schemes. Among them, we use Gardner algorithm and Decision-Directed carrier recovery algorithm which is most efficient scheme to warrant the fast acquisition and tracking to fabricate FPGA chip. The testing results of the implemented onto CPLD-FLEX10K chip show demodulation speed is reached up to 2.6[Mbps]. Actually in case of designing by ASIC, its speed may be faster than CPLD by 5 times. Therefore, it is possible to fabricate the ZCIF QPSK demodulator with speed of 10 Mbps.
