  • This paper presents a new high-level synthesizer for ASIC designs using ASIC library or FPGAs. DAMUL defines the VHDL description for a specified hardware and allocate some VHDL codes, which describe the behavioral specification, to the corresponding hardware before the synthesis. The interconnections are implemented by the multiplexers, and the objective of allocation is the minimization of the number of multiplexers. Also, the dedicated registers is used for global variables, in order to implement the other necessary registers as well as status and control registers. The effectiveness of the proposed system is shown by the synthesis results of benchmark circuits.

  • A summary of the main results from an international comparative study for the high-frequency base balance is given. Two buildings were specified - a 'basic' and an 'advanced' building. The latter had more complex dynamic response with coupled modes of vibration. The predicted base moments generally showed good agreement amongst the participating groups, but less good agreement was found for the roof accelerations which are dominated by the resonant response, and subject to measurement errors for the generalized force spectra, to varying mode shape correction techniques, and different methods used for combining acceleration components.

  • The use of ultra-high-resolution (UHR) seismic surveys to preceisly characterize coastal and shallow structures have increased recently. UHR surveys derive a spatial resolution of 3.125 m using a high-frequency source (80 Hz to 1 kHz). A digital streamer system is an essential module for acquiring high-quality UHR seismic data. Localization studies have focused on reducing purchase costs and decreasing maintenance periods. Basic performance verification and application tests of the developed streamer have been successfully carried out; however, a comparative analysis with the existing benchmark model was not conducted. In this study, we characterized data obtained by using a developed streamer and a benchmark model simultaneously. Tamhae 2 and auxiliary equipment of the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources were used to acquire 2D seismic data, which were analyzed from different perspectives. The data obtained using the developed streamer differed in sensitivity from that obtained using benchmark model by frequency band. However, both type of data had a very high level of similarity in the range corresponding to the central frequency band of the seismic source. However, in the low frequency band below 60 Hz, data obtained using the developed streamer showed a lower signal-to-noise ratio than that obtained using the benchmark model. This lower ratio can hinder the quality in data acquisition using low-frequency sound sources such as cluster air guns. Three causes for this difference were, and streamers developed in future will attempt to reflect on these improvements.

  • This research purports to analyze released items and G4 students' science achievement from TIMSS 2011 according to their academic achievement levels and gender. By doing so, it aims to draw educational implications for Korea from analyses results. Korea showed a lower rate of students at the advanced international benchmark - the highest achievement level - compared to Singapore. The difference was the smallest in Life Science among three content domains and knowing among three cognitive domains. The results of analysis according to gender showed that male students' achievement was significantly higher in Physical Science and Earth Science, and their achievement was also higher in the cognitive domains of Knowing and Applying. From the analysis of the released items, it was revealed that the students' achievement was low in items related to classification of organisms, functions of heart, matters that combust or emit light, and the concept of rotation. Moreover, students drew some illogical conclusions based on their personal experience. Male students were found to show high achievements in items that were not included in curriculum, constructed-response items in the form of short-answer questions, and multiple-choice items in the Knowing domain. Female students were found to show high achievement in items that were included in curriculum, constructed-response items that require reasons and methods, and items that represent experimental situations. Male students showed high achievement in forces concept and movements concept of bodies in the universe, while female students showed high achievement in solubility concept.

  • Though programming education has been stressed recently, the elementary, middle, and high school students are having trouble in programming education. Most programming environments for them are based on block coding, which hinders them from moving to text coding. The traditional PC environment has also troubles such as maintenance problems. In this situation, mobile applications can be considered as alternative programming environments. This paper addresses the design and implementation of coding applications for mobile devices. As a prototype, a Scheme interpreter mobile app is proposed, where Scheme is used for programming courses at MIT since it supports multi-paradigm programming. The implementation has the advantage of not consuming the network bandwidth since it is designed as a standalone application. According to the benchmark result, the execution time on Android devices, relative to that on a desktop, was 131% for the Derivative and 157% for the Tak. Further, the maximum execution times for the benchmark programs on the Android device were 19.8ms for the Derivative and 131.15ms for the Tak benchmark. This confirms that when selecting an Android device for programming education purposes, there are no significant constraints for training.

  • Factory energy management system is rapidly growing and evolving due to factors such as the 3rd Basic Energy Plan and global energy cost increases, as well as environmental issues. However, implementing an essential data collection system for energy management in factory settings, which have limited space and unique characteristics, presents spatial, environmental, and energy-related challenges. This paper endeavors to mitigate these challenges by devising a data collection system implemented through an edge-based lightweight platform. A comparison and evaluation of database operation on edge devices are conducted. To conduct the evaluation, a benchmarking tool called CDI Benchmark is developed, utilizing the characteristics of existing factories involved in practical applications. The evaluation results revealed that RDBMS systems like MySQL encountered errors in the database due to high data insertion loads, making them inoperable. On the other hand, InfluxDB, thanks to its highly efficient compression algorithm, demonstrated compression rates about 6 times higher than MyRocks according to the evaluation. However, it was observed that MyRocks outperformed InfluxDB by a significant margin, recording a maximum processing time approximately 80 times faster compared to InfluxDB.

  • In this study, hole-boss locking washers were developed to prevent vibrational loosening, and a benchmark test was conducted to compare these washers with existing wedge locking washers, which are imported and high-priced. The developed washers consist of an upper washer with bosses and a lower washer with holes, and the bosses are caught in the holes so that the bolt is not loosened. Additionally, the top side of the upper washer and the underside of the lower washer have small wedges perpendicular to the direction of the bolt loosening, suppressing slips. A test by the Korea Test Laboratory indicated that the ratio of the loosening torque to the joining torque is greater than 70%, confirming that the developed washers have a sufficiently high anti-loosening performance. A Junker test apparatus was manufactured for the testing of vibrational loosening and a test comparison between the proposed washers and the existing wedge locking washers shows that the proposed washers have a slower reduction in the clamping force and a higher loosening-resistance in a vibrational circumstance compared with the wedge locking washers. These results indicate that the developed washers demonstrate a high performance and boast price competitiveness.

  • System identification is a fundamental step towards the application of structural health monitoring and damage detection techniques. On this respect, the development of evolved identification strategies is a priority for obtaining reliable and repeatable baseline modal parameters of an undamaged structure to be adopted as references for future structural health assessments. The paper presents the identification of the modal parameters of the Guangzhou New Television Tower, China, using a data-driven stochastic subspace identification (SSI-data) approach complemented with an appropriate automatic mode selection strategy which proved to be successful in previous literature studies. This well-known approach is based on a clustering technique which is adopted to discriminate structural modes from spurious noise ones. The method is applied to the acceleration measurements made available within the task I of the ANCRiSST benchmark problem, which cover 24 hours of continuous monitoring of the structural response under ambient excitation. These records are then subdivided into a convenient number of data sets and the variability of modal parameter estimates with ambient temperature and mean wind velocity are pointed out. Both 10 minutes and 1 hour long records are considered for this purpose. A comparison with finite element model predictions is finally carried out, using the structural matrices provided within the benchmark, in order to check that all the structural modes contained in the considered frequency interval are effectively identified via SSI-data.

  • The Dynamic Vehicle Routing Problem (DVRP) involves a combinatorial optimization problem where new customer demands become known over time, and old routes must be reconfigured to generate new routes while executing the current solution. We consider the high level of dynamism problem. An application of highly dynamic DVRP is the ambulance service where a patient contacts the service center, followed by an evaluation of case severity, and a visit by a practitioner/ ambulance is scheduled accordingly. This paper considers a variant of the DVRP and proposes a decentralized algorithm in which collaborators (Depot and Vehicle), both have only partial information about the entire system. The DVRP is modeled as a periodic re optimization of VRP using the proposed decentralized algorithm where collaborators exchange local information to achieve the best global objective for the current state of the system. We assume the existence of a dispatcher e.g., headquarter of the company who can communicate to vehicles in order to gather information and assigns the new visits to them. The effectiveness of the proposed decentralized coordination algorithm is further evaluated using benchmark data given in literature. The results show that the proposed method performed better than the compared algorithms which utilize the centralized coordination in 12 out of 21 benchmark problems.
