The purpose of this study was to identify whether need of cognition have a mediating effect on media multitasking on learning engagement in online education. The subjects were 168 university students who had received online education for more than one semester, and data were collected using questionnaires on media multitasking, need of cognition, and learning engagement. For data analysis, correlation, hierarchical regression and Sobel test were performed using SPSS WIN 20.0 program. As a result of the study, there was a significant positive correlation between media multitasking and learning engagement (r=.52, p<.001), and a between need of cognition and learning engagement(r=.39, p<.001). Media multitasking had a significant effect on learning participation (β=.52, p<.001), and explanatory power was 27%. When need of cognition was input, the effect of media multitasking on learning engagement decreased (β=.52 ⟶ .44), so it was found that need of cognition had a partial mediating effect in the effect of media multitasking on learning engagement(Z=2.77). p<.01). Therefore, it is suggested to use online contents with learning to organizing a g a lesson syllabus for distance education, and to organize activities promoting media multitasking activities. Also, it is proposed to develop and apply various teaching strategies to promoting the need of cognition in the distance education.
This study compared the influences of Korean psycho-social experiences on emotional-distress(stress, depression, anxiety, anger) of Koreans between two-periods during COVID-19. First, an online survey was conducted among 600 participants between April 13, 2020 and 21, while WHO had declared the pandemic, and Daegu-Gyungbuk were declared as a special-disaster area. Second, an online survey was conducted among 482 participants out of 600 study participants from the first study during August 21 to September 2, while COVID-19 re-spreaded around the world, and total confirmed cases were over 1,000 for a week in Seoul-Gyeonggi province. Hierarchical-regression analysis was used to determine the influence of personal characteristics, fear and social constraints, relationship conflict and income-decreasing factors on stress, depression, anxiety, anger in the two-time points. Results suggest that gender, quality-of-life, 'frequent information-checking about COVID-19', 'fear of unpredictability' and 'difficulties on hospital treatment access' predicted distress(stress, depression, anxiety, anger) at both Time1 and 2. 'Difficulties with official schedule' predicted distress at Time 1, and age, vulnerability to infection and difficulties with personal schedules predicted distress(stress, depression, anxiety, anger) at Time 2. Based on the reseults, implications and recommendations were presented.
Leisure is an important role on happiness and health in midlife. Nevertheless, there has been little research using a longitudinal method in Korea to identify the influence of leisure on happiness and health. Current study examined the effect of leisure satisfaction and time for leisure activities on happiness(SHS) and health-related variables(psychological symptoms, physical symptoms, and quality of sleep) in middle aged adults(40-65 years) by longitudinal data. Two surveys were conducted with 10 months' interval and total 145 respondents(M=49.45) participated in both surveys. Hierarchical regression analysis was employed to investigate that both leisure satisfaction and time for leisure activities in the first time have an effect on happiness and health-related variables in the second time after controlling for each happiness and health variables in the first time as well as demographic variables. We found that leisure satisfaction influenced beneficially on happiness(SHS), psychological symptoms, and quality of sleep after 10-month. Similarly, time for leisure activities had effect on happiness(SHS), psychological symptoms, and physical symptoms after 10-month. The implication for study were discussed.
The purpose of this research was to identify the relationship between specific personality characteristics and maladaptive social behaviors in order to contribute to development of a pragmatic intervention for the prevention of sexual aggression. This was accomplished by examining the mediating effects of entitlement rage (K-PNI) or sociosexuality (K-MSAS) on sexual aggression, and moderating effects of cognitive emotion regulation strategies (K-CERQ) or state empathy (K-CMEM) on sexual aggression in narcissistic men. Data were obtained from male college students (n = 264) who completed self-report questionnaires, such as K-NPI and K-CMEM, and hierarchical regression analysis was applied to examine these relationships. Both entitlement rage and cognitive emotion regulation strategies were found to be unassociated with sexual aggression. Rather, sociosexuality was the mediating factor between narcissism and sexual aggression, Whereas state empathy was a moderating factor between narcissism and sexual aggression. These findings indicate a tendency for sociosexuality to increase sexual aggression in males. However, individuals with low state empathy are more likely to show sexual aggression than those with high state empathy, indicating that intervention for increased state empathy may be a more effective treatment than cognitive emotion regulation strategies.
The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between PJF(person-job fit) and members' organizational commitment focusing on the mediating factor. Previous Studies have found that person-job fit has positive effect on organizational commitment, and self-efficacy has positive effect on the organizational commitment. On the other hand, the studies to identify whether self-efficacy has a role in mediation between PJF and the members' organizational commitment has been insufficient. To that end, we considered self-efficacy as the mediator of the relationship between PJF and organizational commitment. We used the data which to perform national policy research from 690 workers at a small or medium firm. As a result of verifying the suitability of the research model, it was suitable for the acceptance criteria. Besides the hierarchical regression analysis, bootstrapping was conducted to verify significance of mediating effect of self-efficacy. The main results are as follows. First, the variables, PJF, self-efficacy and organizational commitment showed a positive correlation. Second, PJF has a positive effect on self-efficacy and organizational commitment significantly. Also self-efficacy has a positive effect on organizational commitment significantly. Third, the mediating effect of self-efficacy in the relationship between PJF and organizational commitment is significant. In order to improve person-job fit, this study suggested that SMEs' owners should consider job rotation system and career development program for employees. Based on this study result and implications, we discussed limit of research and direction for future research.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify differences in fear of COVID-19 according to types of positive mental health in college students, and to verify the moderating effect of mental well-being in the relationship between mental disorders and fear of COVID-19. Methods: The results of 1,542 college students' responses to the COVID-19 Fear Scale, Korean Mental Disorder Scale, and Korean Mental Health Scale were analyzed. According to the presence of mental disorders and the level of mental well-being (high, medium, and low) of the participants which were assessed by the Korean Mental Disorder Scale and the Korean Mental Health Scale, participants were classified into five mental health groups. And the difference in fear of COVID-19 between groups was identified by one-way ANOVA. In addition, it was identified whether the moderating effect of mental well-being was significant in the relationship between mental disorders and fear of COVID-19 using hierarchical regression analysis. Results: When participants were classified by positive mental health types, the flourish group had significantly lower fear of COVID-19 than the moderate mental health group and the languishing group. The moderating effect of mental well-being was significant in the relationship between mental disorder and fear of COVID-19. Additionally, the reducing effect of mental well-being upon fear of COVID-19 was greater when the severity of mental disorder was lower. Conclusions: Basically, in the case of groups with mental disorders, efforts to reduce mental disorders should be given first and foremost. In contrast, for groups without mental disorders, psychological interventions to raise levels of mental well-being are likely to help reduce fear of COVID-19.
The purpose of this study was to explore the factors related to social participation of Korean young-old adults residing in urban area with a focus on the effects of various motivations. In addition, this study examined gender differences in the relationships between social participation and motivations of social participation. Self-oriented motivation, network-oriented motivation, and society-oriented motivation were considered as motivations of social participation. The study subjects were 836 men and 877 women aged 50-69. The data were collected through face-to-face interviews using structured questionnaires in 2009. Hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to examine the relationships between motivations and the level of social participation using the SAS program. Main results were as follows: 1) The network-oriented motivation and society-oriented motivations were significantly related to the level of social participation; 2) Although men and women significantly differed in the patterns of social participation, gender differences were not found in the relationships between the social participation and motivations. These findings imply that network-oriented motivation and society-oriented motivation are important for facilitating the social participation of Korean young elderly. Further implications were discussed.
As S. Korea is aging faster than any other industrialized countries, there exists a need to understand how best to improve the quality of life of the elders. The main purpose of this study is to examine the predictors of life satisfaction in the nationally representative sample of adults aged 65 and older (n=4,155) drawn from the Wave I (2006) of the Korean Longitudinal Study on Aging. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was run to assess the unique explanatory contribution of socio-demographics, social network, activity participation, and physical/psychological health on the life satisfaction. Three separate analyses were undertaken to note differences by education level: older adults with no formal education, those who had completed 9th grade, and those who had completed 12th grade and more. There are three main findings: 1) Physical/psychological health variables such as subjective health, regular exercise, and depression were significant predictors of life satisfaction regardless of education level; 2) While social network and activity participation factors influence life satisfaction of the two lower education groups, such factors don't affect the highest education group; 3) Marital status, household income, and location of residence were significant demographic predictors of life satisfaction regardless of education level. Implications for program development and policy are discussed in this paper.
This study aimed to investigate the association between social support and the change of depressive symptoms and its difference by gender among Korean Baby Boomer. We used the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA) 5th (in 2014) and 6th waves (in 2016). Samples were Korean Baby Boomer (born 1955 to 1963) who have spouse and children(N = 1,210). Dependent variable was depressive symptoms and independent variables were four social support variables (spousal relationship satisfaction, parent-child relationship satisfaction, frequency of social contact, and number of participation groups). Interaction variables between social support and gender were also included in the model. Hierarchical regression analysis with the lagged dependent variable was performed. Results showed that the higher the satisfaction of spousal relationship and the satisfaction of parent-child relationship, the less the depressive symptoms increased. All interaction variables were not significant. These findings mean that the support from the spouse and the child is helpful in lowering depressive symptoms, and the associations between social support and depressive symptoms are not different by gender among Baby Boomer. It implies that interventions for enhancing family relationships, especially spousal relationship and parent-child relationship, may be useful to reduce depressive symptoms among Korean Baby Boomer.
The purpose of this study was to examine and compare factors affecting the subjective life expectancy among the elderly, and to suggest health practice and social welfare service implications for later life. A total of 4,483 seniors from the 6th wave(2016) of the Korean Longitudinal Study on Aging (KLoSA) were used for analysis. The subjects were divided into three age groups: the young-old (n=2,106, 65~74 years), middle-old (n=1,803, 75~84 years), and oldest-old (n=574, 85 years and older). Control variables were sociodemographic factors and health status factors. Independent variables were health promotion behavior, cognition of public care, participating social activity, economic activity, and receiving basic pension. The data were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression. The main results were as follows. Health promotion behavior was associated with the young-old. Social activities and economic activity were associated with the young-old and middle-old. Receiving basic pension had a significant impact on all age groups. In the middle-old, significant results were focused on socio-demographic and health status factors compared to other groups. The results of this study will provide basic data for the elderly policy and welfare service and will help to find and improve the important factors for the life of the elderly.
