Multi-agent Q-learning based Admission Control Mechanism in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks for Multiple Services

  • In order to ensure both of the whole system capacity and users QoS requirements in heterogeneous wireless networks, admission control mechanism should be well designed. In this paper, Multi-agent Q-learning based Admission Control Mechanism (MQACM) is proposed to handle new and handoff call access problems appropriately. MQACM obtains the optimal decision policy by using an improved form of single-agent Q-learning method, Multi-agent Q-learning (MQ) method. MQ method is creatively introduced to solve the admission control problem in heterogeneous wireless networks in this paper. In addition, different priorities are allocated to multiple services aiming to make MQACM perform even well in congested network scenarios. It can be observed from both analysis and simulation results that our proposed method not only outperforms existing schemes with enhanced call blocking probability and handoff dropping probability performance, but also has better network universality and stability than other schemes.

  • 분산된 정보 및 컴퓨터 자원들에 대한 접근 요구가 증대됨에 따라 네트워크 상호 연결도구 또한 커지고 있다. 네트워크 성능관리 도구들을 포함한 많은 네트워크 관리 패키지들이 이미 개발되었지만 이종 네트워크 환경에서는 그다지 적합하지 않다. 이종 네트워크의 성능을 효율적으로 감시하고 제어하기 위해서는 우선적으로 모든 성능 매개 변수를 정의해야 한다. 그리고 관리 시스템의 성능 분석 행위를 지원하기 위해서는 성능 분석 모델과 성능 판단 기준도 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 OSI 관리 체계 에 기반을 둔 이종 네트워크 환경에서 사용할 수 있는 중앙 집중식 성능 관리 시스템 을 설계하였다.

무선 이종망 환경에서 Vertical Handover를 위한 TCP-Friendly 비트율 제어 (TCP-Friendly Rate Control for Vertical Handover over Wireless Heterogeneous Network)

  • 스트리밍 미디어는 유/무선망에서 미디어를 전송하기 위해 주로 이용되는 형태이며, TCP-friendly 비트율 제어 (TFRC)는 바로 이러한 스트리밍 미디어를 전송하기 위한 기술이다. TFRC는 TCP 혼잡상태 응답 기능과 현재의 망 상황정보를 이용하여, 최대 TCP-friendly throughput을 갖도록 전송율을 제어한다. 그러나 TFRC는 서서히 변하는 전송율을 생성하는 어플리케이션을 위하여 설계되었기 때문에 3G 망과 WLAN 등으로 이루어진 이종망 환경에서의 handover가 발생할 경우 매우 느린 전송율 반응을 보인다. 본 논문은 무선 이종망에서 vertical handover 경우를 위한 새로운 TFRC를 소개한다. 제안된 TFRC 방법은 새로운 망으로 handover할 경우 빠른 비트율 적응과 낮은 품질 저하현상을 갖는다. 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 제안하는 방법이 vertical handover 동안에 전통적인 TFRC 방법보다 더 나은 QoS와 처리율을 제공함을 알 수 있다.

  • 인터넷과 네트워크의 발전에 따라 유선 네트워크와 무선 네트워크가 결합되어 유/무선 통합시대가 전개되고 있다. 유/무선 통합 서비스 중에서 이기종 네트워크 환경에서의 보안 기술에 대한 연구는 아직 미흡한 실정이며, 이기종 네트워크의 융합은 서로 다른 네트워크의 융합으로 인해 기존의 보안 기술 및 통신 기술을 그대로 적용하기가 매우 어려워 보안 측면에서도 많은 취약점을 내포하고 있다. 또한 사용자들이 제공 받는 서비스의 형태는 대부분 이동 사용자를 위한 서비스가 될 것이며, 이러한 서비스에서는 로밍 시 빠른 인증 및 안전성을 제공하여야 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 이기종 네트워크 환경에서 로밍 및 AAA 메커니즘에 관한 연구를 진행하여 안전성과 효율성을 제공할 수 있도록 하였다.

Seamless Mobility of Heterogeneous Networks Based on Markov Decision Process

  • A mobile terminal will expect a number of handoffs within its call duration. In the event of a mobile call, when a mobile node moves from one cell to another, it should connect to another access point within its range. In case there is a lack of support of its own network, it must changeover to another base station. In the event of moving on to another network, quality of service parameters need to be considered. In our study we have used the Markov decision process approach for a seamless handoff as it gives the optimum results for selecting a network when compared to other multiple attribute decision making processes. We have used the network cost function for selecting the network for handoff and the connection reward function, which is based on the values of the quality of service parameters. We have also examined the constant bit rate and transmission control protocol packet delivery ratio. We used the policy iteration algorithm for determining the optimal policy. Our enhanced handoff algorithm outperforms other previous multiple attribute decision making methods.

  • 본 논문에서는 이종망 환경에서 펨토셀에 전력제어를 적용하면서도 매크로셀 단말이 받는 간섭의 영향을 완화하도록 펨토셀에 ABSF(Almost Blank Subframes)를 추가적으로 적용하는 경우의 성능을 분석하였다. 모의실험을 통해 제안하는 방법으로 펨토셀의 용량 증대 등 설치 목적은 달성하면서도 매크로셀 단말에 미치는 간섭의 영향을 크게 줄일 수 있음을 확인하였다. 단, 전체 네트워크의 용량은 가능한 최대 용량에 비해 소폭 감소하였다.

A Semi-Markov Decision Process (SMDP) for Active State Control of A Heterogeneous Network

  • Due to growing demand on wireless data traffic, a large number of different types of base stations (BSs) have been installed. However, space-time dependent wireless data traffic densities can result in a significant number of idle BSs, which implies the waste of power resources. To deal with this problem, we propose an active state control algorithm based on semi-Markov decision process (SMDP) for a heterogeneous network. A MDP in discrete time domain is formulated from continuous domain with some approximation. Suboptimal on-line learning algorithm with a random policy is proposed to solve the problem. We explicitly include coverage constraint so that active cells can provide the same signal to noise ratio (SNR) coverage with a targeted outage rate. Simulation results verify that the proposed algorithm properly controls the active state depending on traffic densities without increasing the number of handovers excessively while providing average user perceived rate (UPR) in a more power efficient way than a conventional algorithm.

Deep Reinforcement Learning-Based Edge Caching in Heterogeneous Networks

  • With the increasing number of mobile device users worldwide, utilizing mobile edge computing (MEC) devices close to users for content caching can reduce transmission latency than receiving content from a server or cloud. However, because MEC has limited storage capacity, it is necessary to determine the content types and sizes to be cached. In this study, we investigate a caching strategy that increases the hit ratio from small base stations (SBSs) for mobile users in a heterogeneous network consisting of one macro base station (MBS) and multiple SBSs. If there are several SBSs that users can access, the hit ratio can be improved by reducing duplicate content and increasing the diversity of content in SBSs. We propose a Deep Q-Network (DQN)-based caching strategy that considers time-varying content popularity and content redundancy in multiple SBSs. Content is stored in the SBS in a divided form using maximum distance separable (MDS) codes to enhance the diversity of the content. Experiments in various environments show that the proposed caching strategy outperforms the other methods in terms of hit ratio.

Optimal Opportunistic Spectrum Access with Unknown and Heterogeneous Channel Dynamics in Cognitive Radio Networks

  • We study the problem of optimal opportunistic spectrum access with unknown and heterogeneous channel dynamics in cognitive radio networks. There is neither statistic information about the licensed channels nor information exchange among secondary users in the respective systems. We formulate the problem of maximizing network throughput. To achieve the desired optimization, we propose a win-shift lose-stay algorithm based only on rewards. The key point of the algorithm is to make secondary users tend to shift to another channel after receiving rewards from the current channel. The optimality and the convergence of the proposed algorithm are proved. The simulation results show that for both heterogeneous and homogenous systems the proposed win-shift lose-stay algorithm has better performance in terms of throughput and fairness than an existing algorithm.

  • Nowadays, Internet users are widespread internationally. Fallowing the users requirements, server has to transfer real-time multimedia data to many clients. Multicast can significantly reduce the system overhead and the network resource waste, so it supports efficient mechanism when server has to transfer same data to many clients. We can deliver multimedia data transfer in real-time using Patching Algorithm which has no delay for service request. And multicast algorithm can support different network bandwidth using Receiver driven Layered Multicast under heterogeneous environment network. The purpose of this paper is to suggest an algorithm that can create new multicast group adequately and transfer real-time multimedia data efficiently under heterogeneous environment.
