  • Highly radioactive waste is solidified to restrict leaching, retain its shape, and maintain its structural stability to prevent it from affecting humans and the environment as much as possible. This operation should be performed consistently regardless of whether the waste is homogeneous or heterogeneous. However, currently, there are no specific performance requirements for heterogeneous waste in Korea. This study reviewed domestic research results and the status of overseas applications, and proposed immobilization requirements for heterogeneous waste to be applied in Korea. IAEA safety standards, domestic laws, and waste acceptance criteria were reviewed. The status of heterogeneous waste immobilization in countries such as the United States, France, and Spain was reviewed. Most countries treat heterogeneous waste by encasing it in concrete, and impose immobilization requirements on this concrete. Based on these data, safety standards for the thickness, compressive strength, and diffusion limit of this concrete material were proposed as immobilization requirements for heterogeneous waste disposal in Korea. Quantitative values for the above requirements need to be derived through quantitative assessments based on the characteristics of domestic heterogeneous waste and disposal facilities.

  • As an attempt to consider what to pay attention to in science learning, this study was conducted with the aim of discussing the meaning of science learning as a heterogeneous network. As a result of theoretical investigation, the characteristics of the heterogeneous network were described in three aspects: heterogeneous composition, existence by relations, and construction and change by translation. And it was discussed that science learning also has these characteristics of heterogeneous network. Relating to what to pay attention to in science learning, it was also discussed that science learning as a heterogeneous network requires us to pay attention to the elevation of things, the concept as a punctualized heterogeneous network, and the construction and expansion of heterogeneous network with neonadeuri of 'unripe' and 'ripe'. Finally, several suggestions for the science learning were given.

  • In this study, Fatigue behavior of laser weldment in heterogeneous materials was investigated. Fatigue strength test and fatigue crack propagation test were performed for specimens with laser weldment in heterogeneous materials, and hardness test was performed. From the fatigue strength test. it was observed that the difference of strength between heterogeneous materials had eflect on crack initiation position and fatigue limit. From the fatigue crack propagation test. it was observed that fatigue behavior of laser weldment in heterogeneous materials is different from that in same materials. The difference of strength between heterogeneous materials and laser weldment had effect on fatigue crack propagation rate.

  • This paper proposes a CSG-based representation scheme for heterogeneous objects including multi-material objects and Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs). In particular, this scheme focuses on the construction of complicated heterogeneous objects guaranteeing desired material continuities at all the interfaces. In order to create various types of heterogeneous primitives, we first describe methods for specifying material composition functions such as geometry-independent, geometry-dependent functions. Constructive Material Composition (CMC) and corresponding heterogeneous Boolean Operators (e.g. material union, difference, intersection. and partition) are then proposed to illustrate how material continuities are dealt with. Finally, we describe the model hierarchy and data structure for computer representation. Even though the proposed scheme alone is sufficient for modeling all sorts of heterogeneous objects, the proposed scheme adopts a hybrid representation between CSG and decomposition. That is because hybrid representation can avoid the unnecessary growth of binary trees.

  • Wireless sensor networks need middleware system for efficiently managing the constrained resource and sensing data because they need different sensing data type and protocol to communicate with heterogeneous sensor networks. Thus this paper proposes data-centric sensor middleware for heterogeneous sensor networks. The proposed middleware have to support various query processing of user applications, high-level request of users, manage heterogeneous sensor systems and universal sensing data type for node and user application.

  • In this paper, we introduce the technologies to handle the interference in the heterogeneous network and evaluate the performance of enhanced Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (enhanced ICIC, eICIC) techniques that are being introduced in 3GPP Release 10. In the time-domain eICIC scheme, time-domain resources are scheduled to avoid the interference by using Almost Blank Subframe (ABS) and Cell Range Expansion (CRE). To mitigate the cross-tier interference between macro and femtocell, it is important to efficiently combine the ABS and CRE in heterogeneous network. Since it is hard to evaluate the total throughput of heterogeneous network numerically, we evaluate the total throughput by using system level simulation (SLS). As a result of evaluation, the throughputs of many different cases of combination of ABS and CRE are compared.

  • In this paper, we study the ON/OFF control policy of base stations in two-tier heterogeneous cellular networks to minimize the total power consumption of the system. Using heterogeneous cellular networks is a potential approach of providing higher throughput and coverage compared to conventional networks with only macrocell deployment, but in fact heterogeneous cellular networks often operates regardless of total power consumption, which is a very important issue of modern cellular networks. We propose a policy that controls the activation/deactivation of base stations in heterogeneous cellular networks to minimize total power consumption. Under this policy, the total power consumed can be significantly reduced when the traffic is low while the QoS requirement is satisfied.

  • The standardization for Seamless IP Mobility between heterogeneous networks is being progressed according to each specific purpose of the organizations such as ITU-T (International Telecommunications Union - Telecommunication), 3GPP(3rd Generation Partnership Project), IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force), and IEEE(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). [1] Specially VCC (Voice Call Continuity) for seamless voice continuity between heterogeneous networks using IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) of the next generation platform is being introduced into a few companies, and also MIH (Media Independent Handover) and MIP (Mobile IP) for IP mobility between heterogeneous networks are being customized by their internal situation. This article describes the idea to support IP Mobility between heterogeneous networks in the network which IMS platform is deployed and only supports the mobility for the voice by the type of AS (Application Server).

  • In this study, heterogeneous ion exchange membranes were prepared by casting method with various mixing ratios of PPO ion-selective solution and ion exchange resin. Then heterogeneous bipolar membranes were prepared by using this. The water content of heterogeneous cation and anion exchange membranes were 60~80% respectively, the ion exchange capacity was 2.81~3.26 meq/g, 2.31~2.74 meq/g and electrical resistances were $1.65{\sim}1.45{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ and $1.55{\sim}1.05{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$. The tensile strength of heterogeneous bipolar membrane was lower than that of PPO resin before functionalization ($700Kg_f/cm^2$). The tensile strength of heterogeneous bipolar membrane with catalyst layer was lower than that of non-catalytic heterogeneous bipolar membrane. The water splitting voltage of the heterogeneous bipolar membrane with catalyst layer was low and stable at a minimum of 1.7~1.8 V, maximum 3.9~4.0 V, and the water splitting voltage of the non-catalytic heterogeneous bipolar membrane was constant at 3.8~4.0 V.

  • In the future, an increasing number of heterogeneous networks will be connected with each other. Each of them has its own interest. Existing systems lack good incentive mechanisms to attract more networks to participate in cooperations. In this paper, we design an auction-based incentive mechanism for routing protocols applied in heterogeneous networking which is computationally efficient, individually rational, profitable, and truthful. Through several simulations, we evaluate the performance and validate the properties of our mechanism.
