  • Objectives : It has been reported that Cordyceps militaris Mycelia(CMM) has an effect on deficiency allergic asthma(虛喘) clinically. The aim of this study was to determine an appropriate oriental treatment and the doses of CMM to treat asthma. Methods : In order to study the effect of herbal acupuncture solution of the CMM on allergic asthma, the mouse were pretreated by CMM herbal acupuncture at BL13, LU4 before antigen sensitization. 2 days later Mice were actively sensitized with a subcutaneous injection of ovalbumin(OA) and 13 days later they were provoked with OA aerosols. IL-4, lymphocyte, macrophage in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF), IgE in serum, WBC, RBC, HGB in blood, and in vitro isometric contractile responses of the isolated tracheal smooth muscle(TSM) to acetylcholine$(ACh,\;0.1-1000\;{\mu}M)$, KCl were measured. Results : Contractile responses of TSM to ACh were significantly increased in CMM herbal acupuncture 1 group $(Ach\;1000\;{\mu}M)$, CMM herbal acupuncture 2 group $(ACh\;1,\;10\;{\mu}M)$, CMM herbal acupuncture 3 group $(Ach\;0.3,\;1,\;30,\;300\;{\mu}M)$. The sensitivity of TSM to ACh was significantly decreased in CMM herbal acupuncture 3 group. The maximal contractile response of TSM to ACh was significantly decreased in CMM herbal acupuncture 1, 3 group. The maximal contractile response of TSM to KCl was significantly decreased in CMM herbal acupuncture 1, 2, 3 group. The counts of lymphocytes in BALF was significantly increased in CMM herbal acupuncture 3 group. The counts of macrophages in BALF was significantly decreased in CMM herbal acupuncture 3 group. Interleukin-4 level in BALF was significantly increased in CMM herbal acupuncture 1,3 group. and it was increased in CMM herbal acupuncture 2 group, but there was no significance. Serum IgE level was significantly decreased in CMM herbal acupuncture 1, 2, 3 group. The counts of WBC in blood was significantly increased in CMM herbal acupuncture 1, 3 group Conclusion : Based on the above results it is assumed that CMM herbal acupuncture at BL13, LU4 can help the treatment of deficiency allergic Asthm.

Methods: The research was investigated with Korean, Chinese and western medical clinical journals of ART with herbal medicine, acupuncture, and other oriental medical treatment as supplementary treatment. Results: ART with additional herbal treatment achieved notably better result when ovulation rate, quality of oocyte, pregnant rate were compared. In the indepth review and analysis of five journals of ART with acupuncture intervention, firm effective results were not found, however, acupuncture intervention on patients with embryo transplantation had higher achievement rate in artificial insemination. Conclusions: According to the review of the Korean, Chinese, and western medical journals of the effect of Korean medical treatment as supplementary treatment method in ART, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and other oriental medical therapies in ART contribute to the improvement of the outcome of ART. The limit in the research was limited strong enough well-designed RCT studies as evidence for they were very seldom.

  • Objectives : Free radical metabolism seems to occupy a remarkably common position in the mechanisms of aging and aging related disease. Oxidative damage to DNA, lipids. proteins and other molecules may contribute to the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease and possibly neurodegenerative disease. This study was designed to find out whether Carthami Flos Herbal-Acupuncture Solution can scavenge Nitric Oxide(NO) or not. SNAP is NO generator. NO concentration was estimated after 2,6, 12 and 24 hrs in no treatment group, after treatment with Vit. C or 1, 10, 100${\mu}$g/m1 of Carthami Flos Herbal-Acupuncture Solution. There was no significant scavenging effect of Carthami Flos Herbal-Acupuncture Solutionon NO after 2 hrs. But there was a significant scavenging effect of Cafhami Flos Herbal-Acupuncture Solution on NO in 10${\mu}$/m1 group after 6hrs. And there was a significant scavenging effect of carthami Flos Herbal-Acupuncture Solution on NO in 1, 10${\mu}$g/ml group after 12, 24 hrs. These results suggest that Carhami Flos Herbal-Acupuncture Solution has scavenging effect on NO. This study shows that Carthami Flos Herbal-Acupuncture Solution can be used for aging related disease and further studies are required to investigate the antioxidative effects of it.

We evaluated subjective symptoms and Phalen's test of patients after executing, and then analyzed those. Results : 1. Both CF group and N-CF group were statistically significant(p<0.05) in improvement of symptoms and Phalen's test since third times of treatment. 2. It appears that CF group was more effective than N-CF group for treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. That was statistically significant(p<0.05) since third times of treatment.

  • Objectives : Juglandis Semen herbal acupuncture solution(JSS) has a broad array of clinical applications in oriental medicine, including treatment of chronic musculoskeletal diseases such as arthritis. This study was performed to investigate the global gene expression profiles using microarray assay in RAW 264.7 cell line treated with JSS and to advance our understanding of the pharmacologic effect of Jss. Methods : Change of the gene expression profile in RAW cell line following treatment with JSS alone, with lipopolysaccharide(LPS) alone, or with LPS plus JSS was investigated with a cut-off level of 2 fold change in the expression. Results : Of the 8170 genes profiled in this study, 95 were upragulated and 42 downregulated following JSS treatment, 51 were upragulated and 21 downregulated following LPS treatment, and 88 were upregulated and 69 downregulated following costimulation of JSS and LPS. Conclusion : JSS treatment induced upregulation of some genes including IL-10 with its possible implication in an antiinflammatory action of JSS. However, further research on expression profile changes induced by JSS treatment is expected.
