Objective : This study investigated results of treatment of Atopic Dermatitis(AD) patients diagnosed as damp-heat type with herbal medicine and wet dreesing. Method : Six AD subjects diagnosed as damp-heat type were selected from the outpatient department of East-West Neo Medical Center in the period of Dec. 2006 to Feb. 2007. Each subject was treated with herbal medicine and wet dressing. Severity Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis(SCORAD) was used to evaluate the effect of treatment and pictures were taken of the Atopic dermatitis lesions. Result & Conclusion : We observed improvement on SCORAD score, especially intensity score of damp-heat type when they were treated with herbal medicine and wet dressing. However, it is less effective and AD often recurs in case of chronic adult-type AD. In addition, nipple eczema in some patients has showed a tendency to improve slowly and recur easily compared to other lesions.

Objectives : Kochiae Fructus (dried fruits of Kochia scoparia L. Schrad,) is used in the treatment of skin diseases as internal or external medicine in Oriental Medicine, but there has not been experimental study of Kochiae Fructus as an external medicine. The purpose of this study was to investigate if it has certain effects on the skin or not. Methods : By a skin prick test method, we evaluated the effects of wet dressing with Kochiae Fructus decoction in different concentrations on histamine-induced itch, erythema and wheal responses, and compared them with the effects of calamine lotion and distilled water in 8 healthy volunteers aged 26-32. Results : The mean intensity and duration of itch were most decreased after wet dressing with a Kochiae Fructus decoction of 100mg/150ml. The time required for erythema to reach the maximal size was around 5 minutes in all groups, and the size of erythema was smallest on the skin taking wet dressing with the Kochiae Fructus decoction of highest concentration. The size of wheal was also smallest after wet dressing with the highest concentration Kochiae Fructus decoction. The effects of wet dressing with Kochiae Fructus decoction on skin were dependent on their concentrations. Conclusions : Kochiae Fructus suppressed the histamine-induced skin responses, which supports the ancient herbal literatures which describe that Kochiae Fructus has a certain effectiveness on some skin diseases.

We report the case of an 18-year-old woman with a 6-year history of widespread facial plane warts that had proved resistant to repeated treatments with laser therapy and imiquimod cream. The patient had recurrent lesions, which subsequently resolved with treatment. We diagnosed the case as heat and blood stasis and qi deficiency damp stagnation. Treatment with herb medication and herbal external wet dressing was initiated. During the 4-month treatment period, the warts resolved gradually. At 4 months follow up, there were no recurrent lesions and no other adverse effects.

Objectives : Charcot neuroarthropathy(CN) is condition characterized by a progressive joint deformation with sensorial and autonomic neuropathy. This study is to report a case of CN improved by Korean medical treatment. Methods : The patient's left foot with CN was treated by Shudihuangkushen-tang, Haifu-san wet dressing, acupuncture and herbal acupuncture. We evaluated the progress by laboratory investigation, radiograph and photograph comparison, visual analogue scale(VAS) of edema and pain sensation. Results : After treatment, VAS score of edema dropped from 6 to 1, of pain sensation slightly improved from 0 to 1. Average blood sugar level decreased and rebounded, but Hemoglobin A1c level improved from 9.5% to 7.7%. Improvement of the left foot was recognized from the radiograph and photograph comparison. Conclusions : This study suggests Korean medicine is effective in treating CN, especially using Shudihuangkushen-tang, Haifu-san wet dressing.

Objectives : This study aims to report 3 cases of systemic atopic dermatitis improved by Korean medicine hospitalization care. Methods : Unlike outpatients, inpatients were supervised their lifestyle including dietary habits by physicians every morning and daily treated with acupuncture, herbal medicine including Bangpungtongseongsan-gagam, and Hwangryunhaedok-tang wet dressing therapy during all week. For dressing preparation, Hwangryunhaedok-tang was used to skin lesion except face. Mixed decoction of Lonicerae Flos and Forsythiae Fructus was used to facial lesion. Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacopuncture was injected to 2 patients. Western oral medicine and injection such as antihistamine or corticosteroids were prescribed by physician depending on each patient's condition. Symptoms were assessed with SCORAD index, IGA, and taking photos. Results : All patients showed the decrease in SCORAD index, IGA, skin lesion amelioration, and patient-subjective improvement. As time passes, dependence on western treatment also decreased and patients were able to endure pruritus without antihistamine injection during hospitalization. Conclusions : This study suggests that Korean medicine hospitalization care including acupuncture, herbal medicine, external therapy is effective for improving atopic dermatitis through decrease SCORAD index, IGA and ameliorating skin lesion.

Purpose　：　The purpose of this study is to report clinical management of acute　dermatitis patient during the period of pregnancy by oriental medicine.　Methods : Generally acute dermatitis is treated by corticosteroids, antibiotics,　antihistamines ec. But the use of these drugs may affect pregnancy women　adversely. So we think that oriental medical therapy is useful to treat a pregnancy　women who has acute dermatitis. We experienced a case of acute dermatitis patient　during the period of pregnancy. In the beginning of treatment, she has severe　itching, burning sensation, bulla, papule. We treated her with herbal medicine and normal saline wet dressing. Results : After treatment during 10days(admission treatment-herb medication, normal saline wet dressing), her symptoms was improved fairly After that she took herb medicine for a month, and all of her symptoms was disappeared. So she was satisfied with the result. Conclusion : Dermatosis gravidarum is a pregnancy-associated disease, which include itching, papule, eczema ec. It is generally due to blood deficiency(血虛)　under pregnancy condition. So samooltang is effective on dermatitis under blood deficiency.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report that Korean medical treatment is good for Dyshidrotic Eczema patient. Methods : This is 2 case reports on patient who has been suffering from Dyshidrotic Eczema. To reduce symptoms, we provided with internal herbal medicine Gagam-tongcheong-san 2 times a day, Wet Dressing by hwangryunhaedok-tang and acupuncture therapy. Results : After series of treatments, the symptoms of Dyshidrotic Eczema were remarkably improved. Conclusions : Gagam-tongcheong-san were effective for Dyshidrotic Eczema patients. Hence, more studies should be demanded in Korean medicine for elevation of treatment rate.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Korean Medicine treatment on nipple eczema. Methods: Two patients were treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, wet dressing with herbal medicine and pharmaco-acupuncture. Photographs of lesions were taken to evaluate the changes in symptoms. Results: Two patients' pruritus, discharge, crusting, excoriation, erythema, and condition of lesions were improved after treatment. Conclusions: This study shows that Korean Medicine was effective to treat nipple eczema.

Objective : It is well known that patients with atopic dermatitis are prone to cutaneous infections. Especially Staphylococcus aureus has been regarded as having an influence on atopic dermatitis. We observed and treated a case of an adult atopic dermatitis patient with sepsis by cooperation of east-west medicine. We present this case because there were no former reports of atopic dermatitis with sepsis treated by cooperation of east-west medicine. Method : We used herbal medication, acupuncture, herbal wet dressing combined with antibiotics and analgesics for 19 days. Atopic dermatitis grade was determined using SCORAD index. Result : The SCORAD index was lowered 32.3 at discharge than before of which the SCORAD index was 62.5 at admission. Other systemic inflammatory response such as fever, pus was also resolved. Conclusion : From this result, we suggest that herbal therapy associated with antibiotic therapy were shown to treat atopic dermatitis with secondary infection effectively.

Objective : Subcorneal pustular dermatosis is a rare, chronic neutrophilic dermatoses that was first described in 1956. The eruption is characterized by flaccid pustules grouped in a circinate pattern on normal or erythematous skin. We treated a case of subcorneal pustular dermatosis in one patient; there have been no former reports of this disease treated by oriental medicine. We present this case because we considered it to be useful as a possible Oriental medicine treatment for subcorneal pustular dermatosis, and something that canbe used for further study of neutrophilic dermatoses. Method : We used herbal medication, acupuncture, herbal wet dressing, herbal ointment, cupping therapy and phototherapy during treatment. We assessed symptoms during treatment and also carried out blood tests through out. Result : We observed and treated a case of subcorneal pustular dermatosis patient and after treatment the patient's objective and subjective symptoms showed noticeable improvement. Conclusion : We suggest that subcorneal pustualr dermatosis can be treated by Oriental medicine therapy effectively. We expect these study results will help provide useful evidence of Oriental medicine as an effective treatment for subcorneal pustualr dermatosis.
