  • Control of the temperature difference across a section is an effective way to minimize the hydration-heat-induced cracks for the structures where internal restraint is dominant. However, surface temperature may not be easily measured in situ due to the difficulty in maintaining the correct location during casting. A prediction equation for the temperature difference is proposed which can be applied without directly measuring the surface temperature if the curing condition and ambient temperature are known. Some strategies to control the temperature difference are revisited and a reasonable range of the temperature difference to minimize the crack is discussed.

  • Recently, a structure has been large and high under the improvement of construction technique. So, mass concrete constructions that a mat foundation thickness of structure is over 80cm have been many. Also, in the reason of high strength of concrete, a matter of thermal crack became an important task to be solved. In this study, we executed temperature and stress analysis of mat foundation. And we evaluated quantitatively about the possibility of thermal crack by using hydration heat analysis program. Because of this analysis technique, we could control skilfully the quality of mat foundation in a construction.

  • The shrinkage properties of high early strength concrete were investigated. One of the method to control microcrack and crack development due to restrained shrinkage is to reinforce concrete with randomly distributed fibers. Regulated-set cement and two different types of fiber were adopted. The experiments for heat of hydration, drying and autogenous shrinkage were conducted. The desirable resistance of high early strength fiber reinforced concrete to restrained shrinkage microcracking was achieved. These results indicate that use of fiber in high early strength concrete plays an important role in control of crack development due to restrained shrinkage.

  • This paper reports the performance results of hydration heat control of mass concrete walls with pipe cooling system. The thickness of walls ranged from 0.9 to 2.2m. In order to investigate the effect of pipe cooling on the thermal and thermal crack characteristics, the pipe cooling was conducted for 42 walls, and the investigation of thermal cracks was conducted for 14 walls. Based on the investigation, the pipe cooling method decreased the peak temperature of about 13-2$0^{\circ}C$ and the thermal crack width of about 30% for mass concrete walls.

  • This study describes examinations made for the purpose of obtaining data for strength control of mass concrete in the cold season. The examination in outline of analysis of temperatures of mass concrete(corresponding to member thickness of 1m) and comparisons with water-cured specimens of various concrete specimens cured in sealed condition. As a result, it was found that mass concrete placed in the cold season, if strength is controlled based on 28-day age, is seen to require a strength correction factor.

  • The main purpose of this study is to evaluate early age thermal stresses and to estimate the risk of thermal cracking in the footings of Hyungsan bridge. In this study, stress analyses are performed for several construction stages using the computation of temperature distributions. The stress analysis results show that, not using the embedded pipe cooling, placing the concrete at once for each footings may cause sever thermal cracking. So, the structures should be constructed with one horizontal construction joint. Then the height of each lifts were determined to be 1.50 meters. Using various time intervals between lifts, temperature and stress.

  • Application of Blast Furnace Slag Powder in concrete as brisk in the world, and study in it is progressing in korea at most recent. When use Blast Furnace Slag Powder to concrete, there are profits that is minigation of hydration heat, increase late strength, increase of chemical resistancy, and superior effect on mobility because of powder single phase is over 4000$\textrm{cm}^2$/g blain is known to experience.
