This paper presents the experimental results of evaporation heat transfer coefficients of HC refrigerants (e.g. R290 and R600a). R-22 as a HCFCs refrigerant and R-l34a as a HFCs refrigerant in horizontal double pipe heat exchangers, having four different inner diameters of 10.07, 7.73, 6.54 and 5.80 mm respectively. The experiments of the evaporation process were conducted at mass flux of $35.5{\sim}210.4 kg/m^2s$ and cooling capacity of $0.95{\sim}10.1 kW$. The main results were summarized as follows : The average evaporation heat transfer coefficient of hydrocarbon refrigerants(R-290 and R-600a) was higher than the refrigerants, R-22 and R-l34a. In comparison with R-22 the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-l34a is approximately $-11{\sim}8.1 %$ higher. R-290 is $56.7{\sim}70.1 %$ higher and R-600a is $46.9{\sim}59.7 %$ higher. respectively. In comparison with experimental data and some correlations, the evaporation heat transfer coefficients are well predicted with the Kandlikar's correlation regardless of a type of refrigerants and tube diameters.

An experiment was carried out to evaluate the heat transfer enhancement and the pressure drop characteristics for liquid nitrogen using wire-coil-insert technique under horizontal two-phase conditions. The tube inner diameters were 8 mm and 15 mm, respectively and the tube length was 4.7 m. The helix angle of the wire coil insert was $50^{\circ}$ and its length was 4.7 m. Heat transfer coefficients for both the plain and the enhanced test tubes were calculated from the measurements of temperatures, flow rates and pressure drops. A correlation in a power-law relationship of the Nusselt number, Reynolds number and Prandtl number for the heat transfer was proposed which can be available for design of cryogenic heat exchangers. The correlation showed that heat transfer coefficients for the wire-coil inserts were much higher than those for plain tubes, increased by more than $1.8{\sim}2.0$ times depending upon the range of the equivalent Reynolds number. The correlation was compared with other various correlations in the turbulent flow conditions.
A ground-loop heat exchanger in a ground source heat pump system is an important unit that determines the thermal performance of a system and its initial cost. The size and performance of this heat exchanger is highly dependent on ground thermal properties. A proper design requires certain site-specific parameters, most importantly the ground effective thermal conductivity, the borehole thermal resistance and the undisturbed ground temperature. This study was performed to investigate the effect of some parameters such as borehole lengths, various grouting materials and U-tube configurations on ground effective thermal conductivity. In this study, thermal response tests were conducted using a testing device with 9-different ground-loop heat exchangers. From the experimental results, the length of ground-loop heat exchanger affects to the effective thermal conductivity. Among the various grouting materials, the bentonite-based grout with silica sand shows the largest thermal conductivity value.
Heat exchangers are commonly used in practice in a wide range of application, from heating and air-conditioning system in a household, to chemical processing and power production in a large plant. Heat transfer in a heat exchanger usually involves convection in each fluid and conduction through the wall separating the two fluids. The heat transfer characteristics of tube banks of in-line arrangements of four circular cylinders in a cross flow are compared for a range of tube locations and Reynolds numbers. The in-line pitch ratio was set up in the range of $1.5\leq L/d\leq4.0$, where L is the center to center distance and d the circular cylinder diameter, and in the Reynolds number of $13,000\leq Re\leq50,000$. The local and mean Nusselt numbers were estimated, and then. Subsequently, the heat transfer characteristics of four circular cylinders were found to exhibit a strong dependency upon the cylinder spacing and separation point of their upstream cylinders.

A boiling heat transfer is used in various industry such as power generation systems, heat exchangers, air-conditioning and refrigerations. In the boiling heat transfer system, the critical heat flux (CHF) is the important factor, and it indicated safety of the system. It has kept up studies on the CHF enhancement. Recently, it is reported the CHF enhancement, when working fluid used the nanofluid with excellent thermal properties. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the influence of nano particles coated surface for heat transfer enhancement in pure water, oxidized multi-wall carbon nanotube nanofluid (OMWCNT), and oxidized graphene nanofluid (OGraphene). Nanoparticles were coated for 120 sec on the surface, and we measured the CHF at the flow velocities of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 m/sec, respectively. As the results, both of the OMWCNT and OGraphene nanofluids increased up to about 34.0 and 40.0%.

A loud speaker-driven zero-c.o.p. thermoacoustic refrigerator where an automotive catalytic converter is utilized as a stack has been fabricated and investigated experimentally. Without any heat exchangers at both ends of stack(and thus with zero c. o. p.), temperatures on the stack are measured and various heat transfer rates are calculated from the measured temperatures. Temperatures on the stack have been also calculated numerically using a finite difference method. The measured temperatures are in fair agreement with the calculated temperatures for lower frequency than 300Hz, however, the former deviates from the latter considerably for higher frequency. Two types of c. o. p. have been defined as appropriate to the experiment. While the nominal c. o. p. is zero(the condition in which the pumped heat flow rate in the pore exactly cancels the axial heat conduction down the stack), the true c. o. p. is found to be about 0.14 for 300Hz from the experiments.

Recently, the heat exchangers are requiring higher performance and reliability since they are being used under the operating condition of high temperature and pressure. To satisfy these requirements, we need special materials and bonding technology. This study presents a manufacturing technology for high temperature and high pressure micro channel heat exchanger using Inconel 617. The bonding performance for diffusion bonded heat exchanger was examined and analyzed. The analysis were conducted by measuring thermal and mechanical properties such as thermal diffusivity and tensile strength, and parametric studies about bonding temperature and pressing force were also carried out. The results provided insight for bonding evaluation and the bonding condition of $1200^{\circ}C$, and 50 tons was found to be suitable for this heat exchanger. From the results, we were able to establish the base technology for the manufacturing of Inconel 617 heat exchanger through the application of the diffusion bonding.

Our lab designs a heat exchangers for hydrogen gas. Coolant is water, thus it is very difficult to determine heat transfer parameters in this gas-liquid system. Repeated experiments gives overdesign value 6.06%, overall heat transfer coefficient 36.32 ($kcal/m^2-hr-^{\circ}C$) for Hydrogen. Theoretically determined overall heat transfer coefficient is 38.44 ($kcal/m^2-hr-^{\circ}C$). Our lab simulated this system and overdesign 30.4% shows good match with this experiment by HTRI. These parameters are in same range with literature.
An experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of a coolant circuit arrangement on the heat transfer and air pressure drop of a fin-tube sensible heat exchanger with the corrugated fin surface. The air inlet temperature was set to $23^{\circ}C$,the relative humidity to 50% and the air inlet flow rate to 20, 22, $25m^3/min$, respectively. while the coolant temperature was set to $7^{\circ}C$, and the coolant mass flow rate to 10, 16, 22kg/min, respectively. Experiment showed that the exchanger having a diameter of 12.7mm with parallel circuit does better performance in sensible heat transfer and air pressure drop than those three of diameter of 12.7mm with a series circuit and that with diameter of 15.88mm with a parallel circuit.

The effect of inclination angle on the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of brazed aluminum heat exchangers is experimentally investigated. Three samples having different fin pitches (1.25, 1.5 and 2.0 mm) were tested. Results show that heat transfer coefficient is not affected by the inclination angle. However, the friction factor increases as the inclination angle increases with negligible difference between the forward and backward inclination. Both the heat transfer coefficient and the friction factor are the smallest at $P_f$=1.5mm, followed by $P_f$=2.0mm and 1.25mm. Possible explanation is provided considering the louver layout. Comparison with existing correlations is also mad.
