Line heating is a forming process which makes the curved surface with the residual strain created by applying heat source of high temperature to steel plate. in order to control the residual strain, it is necessary to understand not only conductive heat transfer between heat source and steel plate, but also temperature distribution of steel plate. In this paper we attempted to analyze is temperature distribution of steel plate by simplifying a line heating process to collision-effusive flux of high temperature and high velocity, and conductive heat transfer phenomenon. To analyze this, combustion in the torch is simplified to collision effusive phenomenon before analyzing turbulent heat flux. The distribution of temperature field between the torch and steel plate is computed through turbulent heat flux analysis, and the convective heat transfer coefficient between effusive flux and steel plate is calculated using approximate empirical Nusselt formula. The velocity of heat flux into steel plate is computed using the temperature distribution and convective heat transfer coefficient, and temperature field in the steel plate is obtained through conductive heat transfer analysis in which the traction is induced by velocity of heat flux. In this study, Finite Element Method is used to accomplish turbulent heat flux analysis and conductive heat transfer analysis. FEA results are compared with empirical data to verify results.
In the present study, the characteristic of flow distribution in the channel of a plate heat exchanger is investigated numerically. In order to accomplish the efficient and fast analyses of the flow characteristics in the channel, a semi-microscopic analysis has been performed using a porous media model. For semi-microscopic analysis using porous media, the flow resistance coefficients are obtained through the result of pressure drop in the experimental data. The results showed that the variation of mass flow rate, geometry and chevron angle strongly depend on the flow distribution in the channel. Particularly, the chevron angle is most important factor for uniform flow distribution.
The current work presents a design and fabrication technique for a microchannel system to measure the local temperature distribution inside microchannel. This micro channel system fabricated by MEMS technique is integrated with a heater and an array of temperature sensors so that detailed heat transfer phenomena inside micro-scale channel can be studied. Materials widely used in semiconductor process were selected to fabricate a heater and temperature sensors on a silicon wafer. On these heater and sensors a channel wall was fabricated with SU-8. The friction constant and the local Nusselt number distribution measured for the deionized water flow in the microchannel is presented.

It is widely accepted that the reading mechanism of Super-RENS(super-resolution near field structure) and Super-ROM(super-resolution read only memory) is closely related with non-linear temperature dependent material properties such as refractive indices, phase change. Furthermore, the dynamic change of the temperature distribution also an essential part of reading mechanism of Super-RENS/ROM. Therefore, the knowledge of the temperature distribution as a function a time is one of the important keys to reveal the physics of reading mechanism in Super-RENS/ROM. We calculated time-dependent temperature distribution in a 3-dimensional Super-ROM disk structure when moving laser beam is irradiated. With a help of commercial software FEMLAB which employed finite element method, we simulated the temperature distribution of ROM structure whose pit diameter is 120-nm with 50-nm depth. Energy absorption by moving laser irradiation, time variations of heat transfer processes, heat fluxes, heat transfer ratios, and temperature distributions of the complicate 3-dimensional ROM structure have been obtained.

The refrigerant R-134a flow distributions are experimentally studied for a round header/ten flat tube test section simulating a brazed aluminum heat exchanger. Three different inlet orientations(parallel, normal, vertical) were investigated. Tests were conducted with downward flow for the mass flux from 70 to 130 $kg/m^2s$ and quality from 0.2 to 0.6. In the test section, tubes were flush-mounted with no protrusion into the header. It is shown that normal and vertical inlet yielded approximately similar flow distribution. At high mass fluxes or high qualities, however, slightly better results were obtained for normal inlet configuration. The flow distribution was worst for the parallel inlet configuration. Possible explanation is provided based on flow visualization results.
Experiments are conducted to study bubble flow behavior during the instability of subcooled boiling under uniform and non-uniform transverse heating. The non-uniform heat distribution introduces nonuniform bubble generation and condensation rates on the heated surface, which is different from the uniform heating. These bubble generation and condensation characteristics introduce a non-uniform local pressure distribution in the transverse direction, which creates an extra non-uniform pressure on the flowing bubbles. Therefore, different bubble flow behavior can be observed between uniform and non-uniform heating conditions. In the uniform heating, bubble velocity fluctuations are low, and the bubbles travel straight along the axial direction. In the non-uniform heating, more fluctuation in the bubble velocity occurs at low mass flow rate and high subcooled inlet temperatures, and reverse flow is observed. Additionally, the bubbles show a zigzag trajectory when they pass through the channel, which indicates the existence of cross flow in the transverse direction.

Heat Transfer with periodic fluctuation of fluid temperature caused by oscillatory flow or compression expansion can be out of phase with balk fluid-wall temperature difference. Newton's law of convection is inadequate to describe this phenomenon. In order to solve this problem the concept of the complex Nusselt number has been introduced by severla researchers. The complex Nusselt number expresses out of phase excellently while the first harmonic is dominant in the variations of both fluid-wall temperature difference and heat flux. However, in the case of oscillatory flow with non-linear wall temperature distribution, the complex Nusselt number is not appropriate to predict the heat transfer phenomena since the higher order harmonic components appear in periodic temperature variation. Analytic solutions to the heat transfer with an sinusoidal well temperature distribution were obtained to investagate the effect of non-linear wall temperature distribution. A new formula considering the thermal boundary layer was suggested based on the solutions. A comparison was also made with the complex Nusselt number. It was verified that the new formula describes well the heat transfer of oscillating flow even if the first harmonic component is not dominant in the fluid-wall temperature difference.

This paper represents to develop a computer software system which is capable to analyze the phase transformation of high strength steel(BV-AH32) and to predict heat transfer and welding residual stress due to phase transformation during Gas Metal Arc(GMA) welding. The developed model was considered temperature dependent properties such as young's modules, coefficient of thermal expansion and yield stress as well as the double ellipsoidal heat distribution by the moving arc. From the results, it was found that the longitudinal and transverse residual stresses calculated by the coupled analysis of heat transfer, residual stress and phase transformation showed good agreement with the experimental data. In addition, the temperature distribution as well as longitudinal and transverse residual stresses of weldment by the 1-pass and 2-pass of welding were also determined.
The present paper investigated the correlation between the acoustic pressure variations and the augmentation of heat transfer in the ultrasonic induced acoustic fields. The augmentation ratios of heat transfer coefficient were experimentally measured and were compared with the profile of the pressure distribution in the acoustic fields predicted by numerical analysis. For numerical analysis, a coupled finite element-boundary element method (coupled FE-BEM) was applied. The results of the present study reveal that the acoustic pressure is higher near two ultrasonic transducers than other points where no ultrasonic transducer was installed. The augmentation trend of heat transfer is similar with the profile of the acoustic pressure distribution. In other words, as the acoustic pressure increases, the higher augmentation ratio of heat transfer is obtained. Numerical and experimental studies clearly show that the acoustic pressure variations are closely related to the augmentation of heat transfer in the acoustic fields.
Laser keyhole welding is investigated using a three-dimensional Gaussian heat source, and the heat source parameters such as the keyhole depth, welding efficiency and power density distribution factor are determined in a systematic way. For partial penetration, the keyhole depth is same as the penetration and is predicted using the experimental data. The welding efficiency is calculated using the ray-tracing method and the power density distribution factor is determined from the bead shape. Full penetration is classified into the transition, normal and excessive modes depending on the degree of keyhole opening. Thermal analysis of the bead-on-plate welds is conducted using the Gaussian heat source, and the calculated weld geometries show reasonably good agreements with the experimental results.
